Yes I do think it makes such a difference when you know them. Ds knows the swimmers in the team and has raced most of the men at some point!

He's having an absolute ball cheering them on but I do think he wishes he was there 😂

Pleased for Brock Whiston, I've been the timekeeper for her lane a couple of times and she (and her coach) are lovely.

She is so nice and I really felt for her after the breastroke. She was so hard on herself but had a brilliant swim.

itsgettingweird · 01/09/2024 17:58

I'm intrigued now to know if you've ever been timekeeper for ds lane 🤔

Mr cool as a cucumber 😂😂🤷‍♀️

Glittertwins · 01/09/2024 18:08

No, I know I haven't ;)

Good afternoon all!

Hope you've all settled back in well. We've been doing the build up skeleton for 2 weeks at end of summer and working back to full time past 2 weeks which starts on Monday 😫

We had club champs last night 50m SC of each stroke IM order - ds full of cold so wasn't expecting much. Smashed 3/4 as pbs 😵‍💫 including 4 seconds on breast stroke 🧐👀

Out of interest. Those who have swimmers who do morning training what times are your sessions?

Eccle80 · 14/09/2024 16:03

Well done on the pbs. We’re back into it here, club champs starting in a couple of weeks, and a couple of open meets coming up too. Eldest probably not going to be doing as much this year, with a combination of GCSEs and going into open age group meaning it’s much harder for him to qualify for counties and regionals. Younger one is going to Sheffield for the county team champs in a few weeks, which includes a night away from home - hopefully it will be a good experience for him!

Well DS has swam the Solent today and now there is talk of a relay channel swim 🙈

Eccle80 · 14/09/2024 18:59

Thank you!

@Hellocatshome wow that’s amazing, sounds like he is doing really well with the open water.

Oh wow that's amazing.

I think he left from right by where I live? !!!!

I've been TM at a gala this evening. Ds not swimming but they needed a female and for some reason whilst TM last night at champs I decided to volunteer 🤦‍♀️😂

My dad did a Channel really swim when he was 16!

Also has done the Solent one a few times IOW to Portsmouth.

Wow well done to your Dad! We will see how it goes the only stumbling block will be if he can cope with the cold 🥶

He set off from Gilkicker car park (well the sea near the car park not the actual car park).

Back into training again, hard work for us more than him!!! We're 5:15am starts in the mornings.

OP posts:
SabrinaThwaite · 15/09/2024 14:09

We were also 5.15am for the older ones (13+) and 6am for the younger ones.

I really don’t miss those days!

itsgettingweird · 15/09/2024 16:30

What time does the session end? Ours officially start at 5.10 but arrive at 5 and pool opens at 5 to get in and do pre pool so start usually about 5.15.

What time is your evening sessions then?

Glittertwins · 15/09/2024 16:42

We get out 6:45 so we can get back in time for food and get ready for school. The traffic on the way home can vary a lot so we have to make sure we are home in plenty of time.

Eccle80 · 15/09/2024 16:56

We don’t have any mornings, 4 out of 5 weeknights they finish between 9 and 10pm though

Glittertwins · 15/09/2024 17:37

Our latest finish is 9pm and that's only once a week so not so bad

The bump back to a full training schedule has been brutal (for me)! DD1 has moved squads over the Summer too, so more hours to fit in for her plus an extra hour of coaching a week for me, but she is really enjoying it so far and my newly acquired lane of kids are lovely.

I'm in awe of those of you who manage such early starts. I will be insisting (lark) DH does those if we ever get landed with them - he often is at the gym at those sorts of times, so could tie it in with a bit of arm twisting. It would break me! We have 8am starts on Saturday and Sundays, but the rest of DCs' and my sessions are all evenings. The evening sessions finish 8.30 or 9 depending on the day, although I can generally add another 30 minutes to that by the time DCs emerge from the changing rooms 😩

itsgettingweird · 15/09/2024 19:07

What time does the session end in the morning?

Ours is 5.15-7am twice a week LC and 5.15-7.15am twice a week SC and then 5-7pm in the evening. Sat am is 7-9am.

S and c for older swimmers is 7-8am so we can't make that as both work 30 minutes away at 8.30am!

WidowTwonky · 15/09/2024 20:22

we have 2 AM sessions 5.15-7 and evening sessions finish by 8.30 once a week and 9 the other 4 nights. We don’t train on weekends

Yuja · 16/09/2024 06:37

We have 2 early mornings 6-7 (so up at 5.30) and one less-early morning on a Sunday 7.30-9.30. Then we do 3 evenings, one of which finishes at 9.30pm but is in a pool quite far from us (only one we have to use a different pool) so she's not in bed till well after 10. I hate the mornings wish she just played the violin or something 😂

elevens24 · 16/09/2024 09:24

We have 9 swim session options a week including 4 early morning (6-7.30), 3 evening sessions, and 2 weekend sessions. Only 1 LC open per week.
