Top 58 overall that is. 28 to British and the next 30 to home nations.
Not sure what the rules are in English regarding 50m free though. I know in British, 15 yr olds can only swim 50m free and only if they qualify for and swim the 100m free.

Distance is fewer swimmers. Think it's 20 to British (was 16 last year). Can't remember the home nations quota

OP posts:
Glittertwins · 23/03/2024 11:28

Looks like 20 into English as well

There is a video on this webpage that explains it all:

www.swimming.org/sport/national-summer-meet-competitor-information/

The email with rankings contains a link to withdraw yourself from being included in rankings for subsequent updates.

With all(?) the Regionals still to be swum the rankings have only picked up a few Open Meets.

Eccle80 · 23/03/2024 13:00

The whole process does seem excessively complicated, and really frustrating if they are not communicating what is happening with para qualification too.

I have a feeling from things I have seen that last year they backfilled from home nations into British after entries closed, but that this year there is no backfilling at all? But I may be wrong

itsgettingweird · 23/03/2024 13:05

Yes previously they've backfilled from home nations to British.

It left quite a huge gap in English in some areas.

Perhaps that's the reason they've increased entries this year? Would make sense with increases in both they aren't backfilling either but I'm not sure about if they are or aren't.

That doesn't mean the info is not there just I don't pay attention as it doesn't apply to us - and the info I need isn't there so I've not spent time easing any of it 😂

Eccle80 · 23/03/2024 13:51

Just had a look at the Swim England presentation again and it does say in that no backfilling to British, so I guess what you say makes sense in terms of numbers. Though a shame they can’t organise it to backfill on both really.

Glittertwins · 23/03/2024 15:42

They're not backfilling British from an English? I know they never backfill English which is daft when there are loads of places 16yrs +

That was what the Swim England presentation said

Interesting if / when there are drop outs then.

I would imagine they've increased the numbers to match the expected rate of non acceptance based on previous years. (Not withdrawals during qualifying date but acceptance of swims based on people keeping their programme realistic!)

Although English is extended a day British is same length of time so they can't be expecting an increase in numbers for each event considering they've also increased ages groups down for males to match females?

itsgettingweird · 23/03/2024 20:47

Or is British also extended a day after typing that?!!!!

Glittertwins · 24/03/2024 06:31

British has an extra 4 swimmers per age grouping this year and English another 10. That's a whole extra heat per age/event for English so not surprising it's been extended

itsgettingweird · 24/03/2024 07:51

British runs Saturday to Friday. Does it usually run for 6 days? I probably should know this stuff but the only reason I know it runs until the 26th is all para swimming will be 23rd-26th this year only.

Glittertwins · 24/03/2024 08:02

I believe British does usually go 7 days as it also traditionally had more swimmers than home nations. But there has also been fewer since 2022 so so many were lost after never returning from lockdowns. The younger age groups appear to be picking up though and they've also made younger age groups eligible for nationals unlike before.

Thankyou.

I really probably should pay more attention to it all 🤦🏼‍♀️😂 I'd picked up on changes this year as lots of chat about them and I think it's highlighted I didn't really know how it worked before (despite going twice 🤦🏼‍♀️).

But then the 2 we've been to have been different as we had the Friday start the first year due to BH!

I keep reading "it's always the same each year" and I'm thinking "really? This is our 3rd year and 3rd difference!" 😂

Glittertwins · 24/03/2024 11:44

He wasn't the right age to swim pre lockdown and things have changed each year since so we have no real baseline either.

I believe they’re backfilling at the Scottish. They did last year as DD picked up an extra race. Looks the same again but for the secondary window it’s LC times since January. DD has a strong chance of being lucky again with that as she swam some 50s in that window but won’t in the Summer Meet window. I guess it makes sure the events are full.

Anyone else going to struggle with calling it aquatics GB now - I've said British Swimming - I mean aquatics gb - about 10 times already today 🤣

Personally I think it's a great move as inclusive of all aquatic sports within our programme.

Glittertwins · 28/03/2024 05:25

Definitely! I think others will too as hasn't the diving part been known as British Diving? I still can't get my head around artistic - still call it synchro!

OP posts:
itsgettingweird · 28/03/2024 21:17

Yes I still say synchro too!

itsgettingweird · 31/03/2024 05:54

Last training session this morning before heading up to London tomorrow!

Anyone else gonna be up there at any point during the week?

We come home next Sunday.

Glittertwins · 31/03/2024 06:51

Good luck! I'll try to watch it whilst at work via my phone
