NYMT/BYMT 2024!

Seeing as NYMT have announced their shows, it feels like a good time to start a thread for anyone with DC planning on auditioning for 2024 for either NYMT or BYMT - as performers or musicians, or as assistant creatives. Please come and say hi and tell us a bit about your DC. There are lots of experienced parents of DC who have been part of both organisations, and these threads are always genuinely supportive and helpful.
I'll invite some previous thread participants below - please come and say hi!

Hi everyone, only just found you all. Looking forward to the next crazy few weeks. My DC auditioning end January 🫣 so exciting! Best of luck to everyone and hope there are lots of happy results in a few weeks ❤️

Biscuitsneeded · 03/01/2024 06:59

@Montimom Hi Montimom! Glad you've found us! Loads of luck to your DC.

And best of luck to your DC too @Biscuitsneeded ❤️

allhailthebrain · 04/01/2024 01:03

Mine's doing Leeds this year 😊

Biscuitsneeded · 04/01/2024 06:01

@allhailthebrain break a leg to your DC too!

London at the end of the month for DD for both. Best of luck to all the DCs.

Mcmumager · 04/01/2024 11:09

Is anyone doing this weekend? My ds is end of month in Leeds unless it clashes with any drama school auditions coming in. I’m thinking NYMT/BYMT stresses don’t seem that bad anymore 😂😂

wonderfullife123 · 04/01/2024 13:51

Mine are doing Cambridge for NYMT next weekend and London for BYMT at the end of the month. Can't believe it's that time of year again. Break a leg to all the DCs!

Operasingerkath · 04/01/2024 16:52

Leeds for my DS too

Biscuitsneeded · 04/01/2024 17:06

@Mcmumager loads of luck to your DS for the drama school auditions. They do make NYMT feel easy to prepare for! You have my sympathies, as this is where mynDS was last year, but I'm sure your DS will come out the other side of the process with some great options. To be honest I think the NYMT audition room experience stands them in really good stead for college auditions.

Mcmumager · 04/01/2024 17:18

Thank you @Biscuitsneeded . It’s a whole different ball game of logistics and hotel booking before he even gets started on all the different audition requirements. NYMT seems like it’ll be more of a lovely day out to see some familiar faces like @Operasingerkath ds 💕

Operasingerkath · 04/01/2024 17:38

I’ve just told my DS that your DCs will be at Leeds - he’s really looking forward to seeing them! @Mcmumager @allhailthebrain All the very best for the drama school auditions-such an exciting but stressful time! We’re just watching friends from the year above at my DS’s college going through it and I know our turn will be here before we know it!

allhailthebrain · 04/01/2024 23:32

I can't believe it's this time again...! Also the time of year I have to sit and work out who I actually know now, and who's still a biscuit or an opera singer or a mumager 😂

Biscuitsneeded · 05/01/2024 15:28

@allhailthebrain it's funny, isn't it? I do know some parents from these threads 'in real life', but increasingly from watching shows I have worked out who the DC are but wouldn't know a mumsnet thread parent even if I sat next to them! I do always end up asking people if they are connected to a cast member or band member whenever I watch the shows, so who knows, maybe one day we'll all meet that way!

@Mcmumager Plus the fact that lots of hotels won't let them stay unaccompanied if they are under 18. I'm a teacher and can't have time off in termtime so poor DS had some VERY early starts to be at auditions for 8.30am. You're further from London so you have my sympathies - the hotel stays must get very expensive.

@wonderfullife123 you're going to Cambridge! My DS has always auditioned in Cambridge, but now he's away at drama school he's going to a London session. Hope your DC have a great day - loads of luck to them.

Mcmumager · 05/01/2024 15:38

Early starts are tough too. I never sleep as panic alarms won’t go off lol. I might need to send his dad to some but he is an early 18 so we always have going alone as a contingency. I just think for those with a morning and afternoon session it’s nicer to have someone there if you get bad news and have to go home! It will bring back my stress of all the days spent at Matilda and school of rock auditions lol! Those were brutal.

wonderfullife123 · 05/01/2024 16:56

Thanks @Biscuitsneeded ! Hope your DS enjoys the change of venue. I know it's a long shot for my DDs being at that mid teen age but they like to have a go.

@Mcmumager audition those auditions sound ncredibly stressful.

Biscuitsneeded · 05/01/2024 18:00

@wonderfullife123 I should clarify in case it's me that's inadvertently started some sort of notion that mid-teen girls don't get into NYMT! I really don't think it's the case that NYMT don't have places for mid-teen girls, as they always try to have shows and roles that cater for all - just that it can seem that mid-teen girls are over-represented in the audition room, and then really talented people have to be disappointed. But somebody has to get those parts, and your girls are clearly no slouches if they got into BYMT - I hope they have a great day at the auditions, and fingers firmly crossed. Are they close in age?

Biscuitsneeded · 05/01/2024 18:02

@Mcmumager DS went to Matilda, Billy Elliot, Mary Poppins,Charlie etc auditions too. I shudder at the memory!

OP posts:
allhailthebrain · 06/01/2024 01:31

Ugh. The months Matilda repeatedly stole from my brain - I’m sure it used to work! That time they kept us on hold for a full month after finals - and then gave a no. Being the reserve sucks when you find out that’s what happened!

This is the first year mine is going alone… We will see what we do about callbacks if we get there!

Alakazam8 · 06/01/2024 02:06

Checking in to say dc auditioning in Manchester at end of month here….anyone else.
(sorry can’t comment on the west end auditions, too far North!!)

wonderfullife123 · 06/01/2024 08:57

Thanks @Biscuitsneeded , yes it's more the fact that there are so many talented people especially in their age group and my DDs are very close in age. They'll enjoy it no matter what I'm sure. My DD said she learnt loads from audition and recall last year. @allhailthebrain that must have been so stressful waiting for a month!

yodaforpresident · 06/01/2024 12:07

Good luck to all the DCs auditioning this weekend!

Montimom · 06/01/2024 14:49

Good luck to everyone auditioning tomorrow eek I can’t believe we at that time of year already! Lucky we have a few more weeks before mine go!
