NYMT/BYMT 2024!

Seeing as NYMT have announced their shows, it feels like a good time to start a thread for anyone with DC planning on auditioning for 2024 for either NYMT or BYMT - as performers or musicians, or as assistant creatives. Please come and say hi and tell us a bit about your DC. There are lots of experienced parents of DC who have been part of both organisations, and these threads are always genuinely supportive and helpful.
I'll invite some previous thread participants below - please come and say hi!

Hi - just wondering how long the decision is whether they have made it through to the final round takes? Week - two weeks? X

yodaforpresident · 07/01/2024 16:27

I think it was less than that last year @Coniger but not sure how that compares to previous years.

Mcmumager · 07/01/2024 16:33

Does anyone who went this weekend have any more details on venues or creatives?

Biscuitsneeded · 07/01/2024 16:58

I believe those who went to Bristol yesterday came away with the impression they would hear quite quickly whether they had a recall. I haven't heard any more than that though!

Is there a limit to the length of the audition song? I’m not sure I’ve ever seen it mentioned on the website?

Biscuitsneeded · 07/01/2024 21:20

It always used to be 2.5 minutes. I'm sure if you're a few seconds over it won't matter. If they have a lot of people to get through I guess they might just cut you off if you overrun (nicely) but I don't think they would penalise you. Do read the audition form again though - don't take my word for it.

Thank you @Biscuitsneeded - I have just read through the form and confirmation again and it just says “a song of your choice from musical theatre”. DD says that someone sang electricity last year which I think is about 5 minutes long? Dead Mom was a popular choice too and I think that is about 3.5 minutes?

Biscuitsneeded · 07/01/2024 21:50

Maybe they cut a verse or two out? You don't have to find a song that lasts 2.5 minutes; you can find a song you like and cut bits out as long as you mark it up clearly for the accompanist. Also, if the session wasn't full they may have let people sing for bit longer if there was time. I'm sure 2-2.5 minutes is enough for them to make up their mind, however!

OP posts:
yodaforpresident · 07/01/2024 23:16

I think she is going to offer to only sing so far on the day.

Biscuitsneeded · 08/01/2024 07:40

@yodaforpresident that sounds sensible. They're very reasonable people!

@yodaforpresident just had info through for Sunday and no specific note on song length, just a request to tape sheet music to make easier for the pianist.

yodaforpresident · 08/01/2024 20:50

Yes, just saw that @wonderfullife123 - thank you!

Is anyone pacing the waiting room currently while a DC waits for news from the weekend?

OP posts:
Mcmumager · 10/01/2024 21:08

If anyone has dc going through drama school waiting room stresses I’ve made a chat on the higher education section to share our pain!

Biscuitsneeded · 12/01/2024 22:33
