NYMT/BYMT 2024!

Seeing as NYMT have announced their shows, it feels like a good time to start a thread for anyone with DC planning on auditioning for 2024 for either NYMT or BYMT - as performers or musicians, or as assistant creatives. Please come and say hi and tell us a bit about your DC. There are lots of experienced parents of DC who have been part of both organisations, and these threads are always genuinely supportive and helpful.
I'll invite some previous thread participants below - please come and say hi!

Sorry to hear this @allhailthebrain . You can stay in the waiting room if you maintain your social distance - we'll chuck you a biscuit and some paracetamol from time to time! Hope you feel better quickly, and I suppose it's lucky your DC didn't get it.

Hope you feel better soon.

Someone is currently at ds's music college workshopping a BYMT show with the students there (I think they did something similar at Chi with Armchair so I guess it's all part of the process)

Ds is really enjoying it so far and says the music is great.

Thanks guys. Don't worry I also have allll the drugs (well, of the chemist type variety anyway!) - going to the doctor later as my breathing isn't happy.

I've not left my room since Saturday night - the kid opens in a big show they've been rehearsing since September in 48 hours. I can't risk him getting this, it's horrible! In laws have also arrived and are vulnerable so it's like covid times here, I'm basically isolating!

Waiting room vibes for the GP to sort it all out please and not just "it's a virus" which is what I've been doing to date 😬

Sorry you’re under the weather @allhailthebrain , hope you feel better soon and now have more drugs to help. Hope your DC”s show goes well-I understand it’s sold out, so it will be a great experience!

That sounds great for your DS, @Comefromaway - exciting to be involved!

allhailthebrain · 20/02/2024 19:23

Thanks guys - two more sets of drugs acquired, go me! 😆

@Operasingerkath yes fully sold out! Six show run begins Thursday night, eeeeek!

Operasingerkath · 21/02/2024 17:39

Results have arrived! Very impressed with the turnaround time. My DS has been offered Lightning Boy workshop. I think he’s pretty ok not to have got one of the main shows - we thought he might be too old for one and too young for the other for the recalls he had. So now we will probably have lots of questions about the workshops, never having done that before! Good to have another new experience.

Mcmumager · 21/02/2024 18:24

Never known it so quick! Ds is in the Our House ensemble. Hoping everyone else has had the news they were hoping for.

Mumofteens20 · 21/02/2024 18:35

DD was offered a non residential "step by step" course in London in July-Aug. She will be disappointed as she loves the residential side of it. But she still is a NYMT 2024 participant so that's all good experience for her.

Kittykat57 · 21/02/2024 19:11

My DS has been offered ensemble for into the woods. He is delighted as he was blown away by the talent in the casting room. Am really impressed with the organisation of NYMT, at 12 I thought he would be intimidated by auditioning with 21 year olds but he said they were all really friendly and inclusive. Fingers crossed for all your DC.

Mumster40 · 21/02/2024 19:25

Mine has been offered a residential advanced step by step course in August. It’s being offered to a select group of company members apparently… All new this year! Well done to everyone who have secured places and I’m sorry for everyone that hasn’t been offered what they wanted this time. It’s very tough x

muckymayhem · 21/02/2024 19:31

Hey all - DD not cast but offered an advanced skills residential course (or something like that I can't remember exact wording) which sounds really good, so actually not a bad result once the initial disappointment wears off! Well done to those who have been cast in a production & everyone else. Thanks @Biscuitsneeded for the thread / advice & the supportive atmosphere from all!

LibbyRuncie · 21/02/2024 19:39

Lottie has been cast in Catastrophe Bay! Let the planning begin! She is only 12 but as @Kittykat57 says everyone has been so so lovely and supportive! I am not at all worried! She will have an amazing experience! Sooooo excited! Looking forward to hopefully seeing other CB cast members!

allhailthebrain · 21/02/2024 20:01

Congratulations to everyone who has been cast! And virtual biscuits/wine to anyone feeling disappointed. It's nice that this new way of doing things mean they get something offered that the general public can't get access to. Before, anyone could join those and now it's for selected people who were recalled only! Well done to everyone!

Have had a brief call with mine, who is in tech today, to let them know they've been cast in Catastrophe Bay! Very happy to be playing the Southwark Playhouse this August!

And to be clear - NYMT changes and evolves every year. My kid has been offered workshop, show, workshop, workshop, show in the 5 years we've been trying. It really comes down to your suitability to the roles in that year's particular shows (vs. other applicants of course). We also know plenty who've had a no (before the new scheme this year where you might get offered skills workshops rather than a no) or even a no recall when they've previously been in a show. So never ever be put off giving it a go - or another go. We know someone from a previous show who got a no last year - and this year they've been cast. So keep at it, because I'm sure similar applies to BYMT. Biscuits to those still in the virtual waiting room for BYMT x

Operasingerkath · 21/02/2024 20:22

Thanks for that, @allhailthebrain , that really helps put it in perspective! Every single person taking part in those recalls is super talented and to me it seems like a great preparation for what is hopefully a future professional career! The main thing my DS is disappointed with is that his workshop only for a week 😂

allhailthebrain · 21/02/2024 20:51

@Operasingerkath mine definitely felt that 😂Especially the year after a show (remember our first one was cancelled by covid so first experience was a full on 3 week 'bubble' show which was the absolute time of their life! So one week only the following year, and everyone else off rehearsing at easter etc...)

But it was a great experience, some great links built with fantastic creatives - learned so much too! Brilliant process to be part of, enjoy every moment! It might put you in a great position when that show is staged the following year, remember...

Keepcominghome · 21/02/2024 21:00

Congratulations to everyone - these all sound really exciting opportunities. My DS has been offered a week’s workshop for a new musical which sounds great, although I think he too would have liked to have longer!

NCMO2G · 21/02/2024 21:41

Wow that was quick! My dd has been offered the workshop week, which she is happy with as a good intro to what it’s all about. - only thing is it makes life a little more complicated for me as is non residential and have other commitments with her older sister. So will have to figure out if we can make it work! - I gather from this thread that it’s all a bit different this year - but if anyone can shed any light on what the workshop week might be like I would be grateful! Congratulations to everyone’s offers of shows and workshops etc!

Montimom · 21/02/2024 21:42

Congratulations everyone and hope that everyone is happy tonight. We are all very excited and relieved that all offered something this year. Platform, Workshop of Armchair, and two for Crescendo. Can’t believe it, feeling very proud of them all ❤️

Melwingingit · 21/02/2024 21:47

@Youarenotseriouspeople @Biscuitsneeded @Operasingerkath
Just an update - considering we had to miss last weekends casting audition, we have received an offer today for a Non Residential - The STEP BY STEP course

recommended we offer you a place on our STEP BY STEP course. This opportunity is only being made available to a small number of Young Company Members who auditioned for us this year. It will not be advertised externally and will provide an industry standard experience, led by our highly experienced creative team.
Monday 29 July – Friday 2 August - (Non-Residential)

How lucky is my DC, feeling grateful to still be a part of this years NYMT in some way.

🙏🏼🥳

Operasingerkath · 21/02/2024 21:50

Oh that’s great, @Melwingingit! This sounds really exciting.

Operasingerkath · 21/02/2024 21:50

Huge congratulations to everyone! Sounds like some great opportunities

Alakazam8 · 21/02/2024 22:00

Montimom · 21/02/2024 22:04

@Alakazam8 yes ❤️

Alakazam8 · 21/02/2024 22:06
