NYMT/BYMT 2024!

Seeing as NYMT have announced their shows, it feels like a good time to start a thread for anyone with DC planning on auditioning for 2024 for either NYMT or BYMT - as performers or musicians, or as assistant creatives. Please come and say hi and tell us a bit about your DC. There are lots of experienced parents of DC who have been part of both organisations, and these threads are always genuinely supportive and helpful.
I'll invite some previous thread participants below - please come and say hi!

@Youarenotseriouspeople Haha yes, James Corden was an added bonus. Hope your DD's debrief is good when you speak to her, and her audition goes well on Monday.

@Youarenotseriouspeople yes James cordon was there! Everyone was very good and left him alone and in peace! He was collecting someone! Very exciting!

Hope the DC auditioning yesterday had a good day and everyone else is ready for today. Just being curious, does anyone know how the slots have been decided this year? Curious because last year we could choose a slot and this year it was just given, but my DS is not in the same slot as some he auditioned with in the first round. Also it helped us last year to be able to select a Saturday rather than Sunday because of train issues!

@Operasingerkath I'm fairly sure it's random. I suspect they didn't want everyone emailing and asking to switch slots because of the administrative headache it must cause. Hope you've managed to get there, and break a leg to your DS!

Thanks @Biscuitsneeded , that’s kind of what I thought! It must have been a nightmare trying to move people around last year. We had to drive down in the end and we’re currently stuck in traffic on the M40 so fingers crossed it won’t be for too long.

@Operasingerkath Oh dear, that sounds stressful. I hope you're moving soon. Or could you bail and head for the nearest station that DOES have trains running to London??
I think who goes in what session is random to some extent, but also they don't want loads of similar 17 year old boys in the same session because then they've got to do the same part over and over with almost nobody suitable to read the other parts. So I suspect they are allocated to different sessions to achieve a balance. But I'm totally sure there's no hierarchy or significance to when you are called.

That totally makes sense @Biscuitsneeded. Thankfully we’re moving again !

@Youarenotseriouspeople Again, I will preface this by saying I don't have any knowledge and things could be different this year, but in the past it's usually been by the end of the week. And it often feels like a very slow week!

Well we are back home and DD loved every minute of it. So lovely seeing her smiling face come out of an audition. Didn't see any famous parents today, but lots of future stars I'm sure. She did seem to think it was split by alphabet, she seemed to think there wasn't anyone in her session with a surname beginning A to K..! I know last year it was a very long week waiting for results, let's hope I have enough wine and chocolate to see me through 😂.

Regarding BYMT did I hear that there had been some offers sent for Animal Farm/Easter Show? I am just thinking its cutting it super fine if offers aren't being sent until early March and the production is at Easter!

Hello all! DD went for her recall yesterday morning - did not see James Cordon - seemed to enjoy but had a headache - says it didn't affect her singing, so fingers crossed. I haven't got much to report except that I saw Clare Balding whilst I was whiling the time away wandering around Chiswick High Road. Did the embarrassing slightly too long look and faint smile as if she was someone I knew and my brain caught up afterwards.

Bought a Bundt tin. Have not as yet made one. Off to watch DD dancing in a dance competition this evening ..it never stops. Will be glad when all kids back to school tomorrow and I can have a break from driving everywhere!

Oh - DD said they said emails around Wednesday - fingers crossed for all!

@MxPickles I thought that too about the BYMT Easter show…. So I emailed on Friday and was told that they hadn’t finished casting the Easter show yet…. Which means they have at least cast SOME of it 😂 I imagine they would’ve cast previous BYMT members as the turn around is so tight. I was also told that outcomes would be end of February. Very helpful and prompt email. I’ve been quite impressed by them so far.
Good luck to everyone waiting on NYMT results this week. My DC will be waiting on NYMT new musical workshop results and BYMT…. It’s a hideous wait!

I think this is the last weekend of auditions for BYMT so hopefully we should have news by next weekend at least on the Easter Show.

Just dropped off my normally not nervous but suddenly extremely nervous DD! It’s all new to her and a big step up, coming all the way to london for an audition, so it’s good to hear that others have come out having had a blast. - she was blowing her nose furiously in the car so she wouldn’t sound too full of cold when she sings 🤣 - but not sure it will do that much good! - I’m sure they will understand though. - so many auditionees must have bugs at this time of year!

@Mumofteens20 and @muckymayhem I'm glad your DC enjoyed it (and the headache didn't spoil things!). @NCMO2G I'm sorry to hear about the nerves, and the lingering cold, but I'm really pleased your DD made it to her recall. I hope she came out happy! Re. When they will hear, so far I've heard of people being told Wednesday, about a week and about 2 weeks, so I think that means the results will arrive when they arrive, and they don't know yet how difficult it's going to be working out who to put where! I certainly wouldn't bank on Wednesday, but hopefully within the week if past years are anything to go by.

Finally home! Long drive for us on the way back. DS had a good day yesterday and enjoyed both workshops. Fingers crossed for everyone! And now we wait…..

BYMT crew, best of luck for casting news! Are they just casting the Easter show now and then most people will hear later about summer, or will everybody get news imminently? Sounds like it could get busy on here! I'll buy some.more biscuits.

We had an email 1st week of March last year about BYMT summer project so fingers crossed it shouldn't be long.

I'm just on edge and jumping from zero to catasrophe 😵 Its certainly a good sign for you though. The communication with BYMT is excellent so hopefully wont be too long a wait.

Sorry guys, I've been in bed with flu and a stupidly high temp since Saturday - looks like I missed all the fun! Sad I therefore can't join in with with celeb spotting anecdotes - unless you count the slightly hallucinatory dreams 😂

Fortunately it was my husband playing taxi (damn you rail services for closing KX in HALF TERM!) and I'm told the kiddo thinks it went well - so now we wait.

I have plenty of biscuits here, but I'd keep a social distance if I were you 🤒
