NYMT/BYMT 2024!

Seeing as NYMT have announced their shows, it feels like a good time to start a thread for anyone with DC planning on auditioning for 2024 for either NYMT or BYMT - as performers or musicians, or as assistant creatives. Please come and say hi and tell us a bit about your DC. There are lots of experienced parents of DC who have been part of both organisations, and these threads are always genuinely supportive and helpful.
I'll invite some previous thread participants below - please come and say hi!

@Biscuitsneeded oh she has plenty time then thanks for there heads up. It’s a shame these places don’t allow it.
thanks as always for your support and information. Good luck everyone x

My DD is feeling good about Sunday, my nerves are not holding out well, I don't know why I get so nervous for her, she is fine and I try not to ask too much as don't want to put my nerves on her. I don't know how they all do it. Take my hat off to them. I wish I had that confidence even now at my ripe old age!!! Sorry to hear that there are colds/injuries, I hope they are okay x

Winterlot · 16/02/2024 17:16

my child auditioned for the first time this year and didn’t get a recall. They were a little disappointed but they are only 10 so have time to try out again. Just wondered if any 10/11 year olds were recalled or if they have been previous years?

Alakazam8 · 16/02/2024 18:10

Yes there are 10/11 year olds recalled most years. My dd was one of them a few years ago and recalled but didn’t get in at 10 but did at 11 so your dc has plenty of time. It just depends on shows each year and if there is something that suits your dc.

Biscuitsneeded · 16/02/2024 18:11

@Winterlot I'm sorry there was no recall this time for your DC. It's possible to get a recall at any age, as the shows require a wide range of ages, but it's also the case that some talented kids do find themselves without a recall every year, depending on shows and fit. If your DC loves performing and enjoyed the audition day then I would absolutely encourage them to audition again next year. There are lots of stories of people who tried for 4 or 5 years to get in, only to get a lead when they finally did make it into the company!

@Mumofteens20 I don't know how they do it either. I certainly couldn't have. I love watching them perform because they are so talented and in many cases it's their entire raison d'etre, if that doesn't sound really naff and pretentious.

Totally agree. And I love to watch too, it actually makes me emotional. Not sure where mine gets it from as I don't have an ounce of talent, better off just watching 😂

Break a leg to all the DC recalling today! I hope transport behaves, voices are functional, dance legs are working and scenes go well! Looking forward to hearing about it. My DS is there this morning too. Hope everyone comes out happy.

Getting ready for the this afternoon! Car is packed DD just trying to decide what to wear! 🙄 anyone been to the school of arts before? This is our first time DD is only 12 so first year trying! But we’ll need to walk a dog and find food for afterwards that’s easy to eat and take in the car as off to Scotland tonight after the call back slot! Any tips on the area or places for good takeaway food nearby please!?

Biscuitsneeded · 17/02/2024 08:57

From what I remember from when I worked in Chiswick many moons ago, Arts Ed isn't too far from Chiswick House which has a biggish park. And there's a green near the tube station and the school. It's not far at all to Chiswick High Road which will have loads of cafes, shops and restaurants. Break a leg to your DD!

@LibbyRuncie PS leggings and a comfortable top is fine!

@LibbyRuncie Turnham Green is a 1 minute walk from Arts Ed. Perfect for dogs. Parking will be your biggest issue. I recommend booking a space via a parking app before you leave. It’s residents parking everywhere….. I actually attended Arts Ed many moons ago…! There are hundreds of cafes and coffee places nearby. Walk up Turnham Green Terrace and turn right onto Chiswick High Road for a wide selection. Good luck to everyone today!

Break a leg to all the DCs for their recalls!

NCMO2G · 17/02/2024 14:36

@Mcmumager @Biscuitsneeded thanks for the advice re colds and performing! - she’s starting to feel better now so that’s good! - the miming tip and ginger shots were helpful! - @Melwingingit sorry to hear about your daughters ankle- I really hope it’s on the mend enough for to do her call back session. - I hope everyone’s call backs go well today and tommmrow - thanks so much for all the brilliant advice and support on here - very grateful! ☺️

NCMO2G · 17/02/2024 15:40

@Mumster40 do you know if it’s residents parking on a Sunday? Wondering if I should also book a space for tomorrow? Thankyou!

Mumster40 · 17/02/2024 16:31

It depends on the parking bays… some are Mon - Sat and some are 7 days…. I know Flanders Rd (behind Arts Ed) is free on Sunday. But. No guarantee of a space….

LibbyRuncie · 17/02/2024 17:53

We are here now and waiting for DD we are parked in the street behind the art Ed and it’s mon-Fri 9-5 permit only so all good to park and there have been plenty of spaces and free! We went off and walked around Chiswick gardens which was lovely!

@Melwingingit it goes up to age 23 so she has time! Some of the post 18 colleges don't let their students take part (I'm looking at you, Arts Ed and Mountview!) but fortunately, most do. In fact it's the one non- professional credit they can put on a spotlight CV beside their college grad shows.

That’s interesting @biscuitsneeded as DD’s agent does not allow credits from BYMT or NYMT on her spotlight profile. They will only allow professional credits.

Biscuitsneeded · 17/02/2024 18:52

@yodaforpresident I guess every agent will have their own rules. But I know that when some of then are graduating from drama school they put their graduate shows and their NYMT shows on their spotlight.

I know; I have seen other people include it. It’s not even allowed to be listed in training.

LibbyRuncie · 17/02/2024 20:35

Dad came out of arts Ed buzzing! This has been a fantastic experience for her! She loved it!!! For those tomorrow have an awesome time!

LibbyRuncie · 17/02/2024 20:36

I mean DD!!

Montimom · 17/02/2024 21:25

Ah glad that’s all done!! Pass the biscuits and good luck to all those auditioning tomorrow

Youarenotseriouspeople · 17/02/2024 21:32

My DD is still in London because she has a uni audition on Monday. She is currently in Nando's and says she will ring me later - all i have got out of her is that she saw James Cordon 😂
I would be grateful for any feedback you lovely lot may have??

Biscuitsneeded · 17/02/2024 21:46

@LibbyRuncie I'm so glad your DD enjoyed it and it was worth the long journey to West London. You are clearly a very kind parent to add that deviation to your journey to Scotland, but I'm sure she's very grateful! Fingers crossed now!
