DD(16) mum here: I agree about there being no need for compression suits until the kids are going through puberty and have hips and breasts.

DD used to swim in a Speedo Endurance legsuit (which looked like a racing suit). I notice the Speedo website has a sale on BTW. She's also had non-compression TYR, Yingfa and Maru.

For Funkita, the websites have pretty good measurements, including body loop. Aged 13-15 I think DD swapped between kids and adult sizing depending on how high she wanted the legs/bum coverage.

Well done to mini Hello (and not quite so mini Hello from another thread)

Teateaandmoretea · 03/07/2023 08:08

I’ve found both of my girls moaned about the speedo endurance giving them wedgies if they were the right size. My younger one is 11 (and average to small size) and will only wear the one we have that’s 13-14. It’s clearly too big. It may well be to do with their shape I don’t know.

Thank you @Madcats very strange feeling being proud of both at the same time they usually tag team stressing me out over something or other.

So I have entered DS for the Open Water Nationals but it didn't ask me to fill in an anti doping form. Does the one I filled in last year still count for this year or do I need to do a new one? And if so how?

WarningToTheCurious · 05/07/2023 13:08

You could email the British Swimming doping lead to ask - details are here:

Yes. You only have to complete one once.

We completed one when ds did para winter nationals in 2021. Never filled in one since.

He got randomly dope tested at home the other week with a spot test 🤣🤣🤣

Glittertwins · 05/07/2023 16:00

Yes, only the once- you'd not have been able to enter otherwise

Hellocatshome · 05/07/2023 16:04

Fab thank you both. I hope not so mini Weird wasn't too disturbed by the random test!

itsgettingweird · 05/07/2023 16:06

He was fine!!!

However it took 4 hours and you have to be watched at all times.

I was more put out because I'd been up since 4am to take him training and ofsted were coming to school the next day 🤣🤣🙄

My plans for completing my notes for questions I may be asked and having a nice bath all went out the window!!!

Oh goodness they really managed to pick a bad time 🙈

Glittertwins · 05/07/2023 19:43

Last meet we had with potential testing, we were told it would be highly unlikely that a junior would get selected. No idea what they can / cannot do as I've not really looked into it. Don't use supplements, rarely ill and don't have an inhaler for non asthmatic purposes!

OP posts:
itsgettingweird · 06/07/2023 08:08

I think juniors are less likely. Although an odd few that have (all para swimmers)

Ds is 18 now.

I think for him it's likely to have been because he's done a lot of stuff with British swimming this season and if they are considering him continuing on their radar they need to check he's not cheating his improvement 🤣🤣

Glittertwins · 13/07/2023 15:22

One week to go before we trundle up to Sheffield!

OP posts:
itsgettingweird · 13/07/2023 15:48

Yep! The countdown begins!

We are coming up Saturday and ds will do the 3pm training slot as his first race is 400 free on Sunday.

However - all the prep will be done this weekend as I don't finish work until Friday!

Glittertwins · 13/07/2023 15:56

I'm there for the 1500m, bet the coach loves that for having to come up a day earlier than everyone else! We'll do training Friday morning then drive up later.

OP posts:
itsgettingweird · 13/07/2023 20:27

We've quite a few swimmers in the 1500. Long sessions!

Ds is the only swimmer doing Sunday that isn't doing Saturday so not sure if he'll be training alone 🤣🤣

Or if the poor coach has to hang around for him to train after watching hours of swimmers going up and down 🫣

Thanks just seen it while I was in the queue for a gala lol last time we went to Rother Valley on the inflatable water park I got a horrible tummy issue off all the duck poo!

WarningToTheCurious · 14/07/2023 21:34

A few years ago the Scottish open water team went from swimming at Nationals straight onto a plane to compete in Europe. Many of them came down with DV as heavy rains had washed contaminants into the lake. Not fun at all.

Glittertwins · 14/07/2023 21:53

A water company released a load of sewage into the River Dee near Chester right before their triathlon and kept it quiet. A lot of triathletes were pretty sick.

OP posts:
WarningToTheCurious · 14/07/2023 22:38

In this case it was heavy rain washing slurry from the fields into the lake 🤢

itsgettingweird · 15/07/2023 10:25

I wouldn't be surprised if ours in cancelled tomorrow.

Winds today with storms predicted and then winds of 16-18 tomorrow. Have to consider safety in those winds I should think.

Glittertwins · 15/07/2023 11:17

It's leaving it very late isn't it? The weather forecast is not looking good.

OP posts:
itsgettingweird · 16/07/2023 20:07

Well OW went ahead. Luckily lake in a sort of bowl and so wind didn't stop play! And a non wetsuit swim.

Our swimmers did well with 7 swims and 7 national qualifications.

We have some more qualified in the pool who pulled because distance at BS next weekend.

A few of those also had qualified pool but have never raced OW before so needed the experience.

And obviously my ds wasn't involved in any way shape or form because he thinks 400m free is distance 🧐🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Hellocatshome · 16/07/2023 20:16

@itsgettingweird that's brilliant they left it fairly late to hold their regional ow though didn't they?

DS had a fabulous gala this weekend. Cracked the 30 second barrier in the 50 free for the first time and not by a little bit. The only feedback he got from coach was you could have breathed less, he took 2 breaths in the whole 50 🙈🤣
