Getting a bit close to the end of the previous one!

Sorry for being a bit slow on the uptake so if some events on the English list only have say 16 names but more than 16 English kids of that age category have swam that event long course in the window why are the full 22 places not full? I understand the concept of being bumped off the list if someone beats your time but why would a time not get onto the list in the first place?

Eccle80 · 02/05/2023 14:46

The other thing on the qualifying is the joint age groups make it tough for the 14 year old boys (and I think 13 year old girls), as they are in the same age group as 15 for British, and 13 for English, so have to be higher than top 46 in their own age group to have a chance.

The qualifying for 50s through the 100s seems odd to me.

WidowTwonky · 02/05/2023 14:47

As Glittertwins says, it should be 22 for home nations except for the distance events (more if there is a tie).
So when you are seeing only 16 names, which event is that?

Glittertwins · 02/05/2023 14:47

No idea on that score. I need to read up in what Swim England are doing.

@Hellocatshome is 16 the number they take for the distance events? I know it is less

Glittertwins · 02/05/2023 14:50

16 for distance on British

Ah I think this must be it, thank you.

We weren't sure if they'd get them submitted in time. Should be back on British for everything now (until South West and Mount Kelly/Millfield do theirs!)

SW had their regionals this weekend. I know a few swimmers from there. I doubt their results will make too much difference once times on rankings having had a quick look at meet mobile. Lots of red times for the tops swimmers iyswim?

Same with SE which only finished yesterday and won't be on there yet.

A few top swimmers with pbs but I think most of them already on rankings. Rest all reds so either remain or will slip down.

If any of my thought process makes sense 🤣🤣

Glittertwins · 02/05/2023 14:36

It's top 24 for British then the next 22 for home nations for all except 800/1500m where it's top 16 in British.
If someone rejects their event place in British, then it is offered to the faster home nation qualifier.
British is further complicated by boys 15/under and girls 14/under (I think) cannot do any non freestyle 50s events. They can only do the freestyle if they've qualified for AND entered the 100m free event. Personally I don't like this because DS isn't a 50m sprinter but will more than likely qualify because he has the 100m time & therefore denies that sprinter the opportunity.

Last year, sadly, it appears that the home nations didn't then backfill in the same way which is why there were several unfilled events. I don't know if there will be a change for this this year.

No home matins aren't back filling again this year.

So once those qualified for British sort their schedule and those in home nations are offered the places.

Home nations will run with as many swimmers that are left from those on there at closing.

Agree with this.

My friends son has a 14yo who is within top 45 for his age. But because both events are double age groups it's not enough for HN qualifying because the top 13yo boys are quicker.
Bs is 14/15 boys and home nations 13/14yo.

Same with girls. BS is 13/14yo girls and HN 12/13yo.

We have 2 swimmers both 13 and different sexes who are both ranked No 1 for various things in age group. One is competing BS in bottom age category and the other HN in the top.

Next year one has to deal with being bottom aged group having been top and the other theoretically gets an easier ride!

That’s so annoying. How much admin is it to offer to next on the list 😢

@itsgettingweird - have the over 15s swum their events yet?

I also think it's wrong to not fill the home nations events

I see results from SE regionals but not SW

Madcats · 02/05/2023 18:12

When I looked at lunchtime SW hadn't uploaded their results.

There weren't a lot of PBs in the races I was following.

littleroad · 02/05/2023 18:20

These are the numbers for the Scottish summer meet and I think they differ a bit from this people have said above. They also are running a type of back fill as they’re going to do a secondary entry process.

All the over 15's have in our region.

The 15yo boys haven't yet swam half of there's. They re allocated the comps and age groups again this year.

itsgettingweird · 02/05/2023 20:13

They actually may well be. I've since seen they had a lot of times added at midday.

Ds didn't swim regionals because he's away so I must admit I've haven't looked that closely!

What I was trying to say but much more succinct Grin

Madcats · 02/05/2023 20:22

SW do 15+ over a bank holiday weekend because(?) there are a hefty number doing GCSEs/A levels. So many new names each year as Mount Kelly and Millfield get new recruits. Juniors did the previous week and would normally do this coming weekend...but it will be following weekend this year.

We have a swim hat that will be worn once(?) and a hoody and a LC PB. The sun came out on one of the days, so our "not in the finals" afternoon was lovely.

Yea that's usually same dates as SE. They also usually have 15/0 boys on the BH weekend but they have moved this year and they've created a separate 17 and 18+ category for men.

Poor 2005 born males swam as youngest in 17/0 last year and then youngest in 18/0 this year.

Sw has one of our ex club swimmers now as they are at a swim college for 6th form.

Porseb · 02/05/2023 20:34

I don't think you will see a lot of time drops at regionals as many swimmers taper for British Champs, not regionals.

So the interim rankings update post Champs is usually fairly accurate.

Glittertwins · 02/05/2023 20:42

They still have to qualify though and not run the risk of getting dropped. We've only done 1 LC event prior to regionals which times were not great at. There haven't been many PBs in DS age group apart from his times so hopefully he's back up there

OP posts:
itsgettingweird · 02/05/2023 21:02

Are there many LC meets apart from regional ones running after these weekends?

Our age group regionals is weekend of 13/15th. We then have a last chance national qualifier last weekend but there only seems to be 3 meets nationally that weekend.

Wondering if anyone knows if there are other meets between then - especially for older swimmers? That'll indicate how likely rankings will change much I guess?
