Hi all,
Here's a new thread for the festive period - possibly including a bit of January if I'm away and unable to start another one in time. The old thread was making me nauseous.

I am a music teacher, so pretty busy athis the moment. I have just had results for 12 pupils' exams... 3 pass, 7 merit and 2 distinction. My DDs didn't do any this term, but have 9 concerts between them. Goo is 13 and plays the flute and piano. Rara is 10 and plays the cello and clarinet. What are you all up to musically?

Fantastic news Raspbery!

folkmamma · 18/12/2018 12:27

Brilliant news raspberry!!! Huge congrats to him.

Mid way through week crazy... full day of rehearsals for DD1 yesterday in preparation for school Christmas extravaganza tomorrow and Wednesday. DD2 has 6 shows between now and Christmas Eve, about to head on stage for show 2....

littleladsdad · 18/12/2018 12:34

Fantastic news raspberry!

littleladsdad · 18/12/2018 13:38

Just had news that ds has gained a place in the National Children's Brass Band again next year. With the news of his place in NCO, it's been a good week for him.

Trumpet I've just ordered some sheet music of the test pieces for the NYBB - ds wants to audition at the NCBB course this summer. They are extremely challenging! Hope your ds has fun working on his piece.

Wiifitmama · 18/12/2018 14:41

Well done Raspberry and Littleladsdad!! Great news all round!

We are still waiting to hear on grade 6 piano. It was 2 weeks ago last friday so I had hoped we would hear by now!

Lotsofmilkonesugar · 18/12/2018 14:53

Congratulations to raspberry that’s a great achievement! And well done to littleladsdad too! Nice to hear everyone’s good news. We’ve had mixed exam experiences this time round, DS3 gave himself a massive bruise running into a glass door on the way into the exam room for his piano prep test but managed to do it later in the day. DS1 came out of his horn exam upset, but he got a merit so obviously not as bad as he thought. Still waiting for DDs piano result, it was apparently ‘ok’

Great news littleladsdad and fantastic results rasberry and lotsofmilkSmile
Ds has to sort out his part for the brass band contest test piece over Christmas , thought he better get on with it as I think he’s taking grade 8 at the same time !! Grade 8 was always going to clash with something but I’d rather it not be GCSEs so I I’m quite pleased he’s just going to get on with it
Oldandgold , he’s 13 and certainly very busy !! but he loves it especially ensemble playing ( of all types ). Who knows what he’ll do in the future but I think music is definitely an option

Knotaknitter · 18/12/2018 15:47

Congratulations to Raspberry and Littlelad. No exams here (yay), three more concerts to Christmas and then one between Christmas and new year

cantkeepawayforever · 18/12/2018 16:50

Oldandgold...

Indeed I do have 2 taking exams this summer - musical DS taking A-levels and dancing DD taking GCSEs.

Luckily DS has a 2 E offer for music conservatoire, so that reduces the stress a tiny bit!

Boyskeepswinging · 18/12/2018 16:50

Like Trumpet I was keen to get G8 out the way before GCSEs. I was delighted when DS got his Distinction yesterday until he announced he wants to do his Diploma next year. Nooooo! Confused

LooseAtTheSeams · 18/12/2018 17:06

Well done littlelad and lotsof! Star Star

raspberryrippleicecream · 18/12/2018 17:12

Thank you everyone!

and congratulations to Littlelad and Lotsofs DCs.

I'm not entirely convinced that is Grade 8s out of the way before GCSEs. It will be his last piano exam, his teacher has mentioned a Diploma but piano has really moved into third instrument slot now, with trombone and organ moving up. So far he has done no exams on either, apart from Grade 3 trombone a long time ago. He is arounf Grade 8 standard now on his trombone so may decide to go for it.

He will be carrying on with piano anyway though, he wants to do some accompanying too.

He accompnanied the school wind band on the organ last night for the carol service, which was lovely.

Trumpetboysmum · 18/12/2018 17:13

Boyskeepswinging they always do that though , just when you think you can relax a bit they have another good idea .....Grin

rushes into thread and waves

Hope everyone's Christmas marathons are going well. I finish for the holidays in 4 days - yippee!! I am beyond exhausted and need to take some time for myself at the moment. Don't worry - if I do that, I will be fine. But we are also going to be away for New Year, potentially without internet access. If anyone else would like to start a January thread, feel free. Please understand, though, that I am taking a planned break for now. I am happy to chat with the many friends I've made here in person, via text etc.

Let me stress again... I am fine. We are all fine!

Bye for now. xxx

RomanyRoots · 18/12/2018 20:49

Eh? what did oldandgold say, apart from stuff about performance and tickets?

Wiifitmama · 18/12/2018 21:04

Was she a troll? If so, I would like to know as she is on another thread I am on (Oxbridge one) talking about a dd who is applying and also plays sport for GB.
