Hi all,
Here's a new thread for the festive period - possibly including a bit of January if I'm away and unable to start another one in time. The old thread was making me nauseous.

I am a music teacher, so pretty busy athis the moment. I have just had results for 12 pupils' exams... 3 pass, 7 merit and 2 distinction. My DDs didn't do any this term, but have 9 concerts between them. Goo is 13 and plays the flute and piano. Rara is 10 and plays the cello and clarinet. What are you all up to musically?

NotanotherPokemon - thank you, we are in North Yorkshire.

CruCru · 11/01/2019 19:28

Ah, what good news Minisnowballs.

Happy New Year everyone. Having slacked off a bit, we’ve just done a load of music practise. My daughter has started the violin but so far she is spending time on how to hold it (which she likes to demonstrate to us).

NeleusTheStatue · 12/01/2019 01:30

Lovely to hear your DD is enjoying her violin lessons, CruCru.

I said no exciting news from us in the previous post. Well, not exactly 'exciting' but DS told me today that his teacher would be away for THE WHOLE TERM from this weekend. So he'll be teacher-less till next term. He just went back to the lesson this week after 4 weeks off...

Not the sort of news I wanted to share but here you go...

catkind · 12/01/2019 02:39

Shock neleus, nice to have warning... I hope not for any bad reason. I presume he has "a" teacher just not "the" teacher? Could be a different perspective, but bad timing, I hope your DS is not upset.

NeleusTheStatue · 12/01/2019 10:20

It's 'the' teacher. So he'll be teacher-less for a while. Apparently he'll continue having lessons but with several teachers who will be covering during the teacher's absence which doesn't really sound ideal, especially he's just started settling with the new practice routine (he started with the teacher in Sep). Things happen so never mind. But slightly annoyed we got the news via DS and nothing from the school (DS has lessons at school). Must add that DS isn't an articulate kind. So no clear explanation nor plan to fill the gap.

catkind · 12/01/2019 18:12

Eek, several teachers sounds a tad confusing. Is there a form tutor or someone you can call to find out what's going on?

NeleusTheStatue · 13/01/2019 08:38

Thanks catkind. DS doesn't know much detail but we reckon the school will email the parents to explain the situation so we'll wait till we hear from them for now. It's not great to be honest. But things happen... At least DS isn't disheartened by that (that much, yet). Maybe we should see this term isn't so much of 'moving forward' but 'have fun with different teachers and styles of teaching' and perhaps bring some inspirations and joys out of it...

Mendingfences · 13/01/2019 12:12

I think that is a really good way of looking at it neleus. Dd1 has had some periods with several different teachers and it can be quite inspirational and refreshing with new inputs.

Just yesterday we were discussing cover while her teacher is on tour.....

Frankley · 13/01/2019 14:05

Wafflenose As a long time mostly lurker on these threads please keep it going. It has given me, and I'm sure many others, much pleasure. Please don't be put off, it is so worthwhile.

catkind · 13/01/2019 22:53

That sounds like a good plan neleus. Though I'm sure given where he is in his musical journey he's going to be moving forward anyway, barring they actually build a brick wall in front of him Smile

Frankley I think waffle is just taking a break. Perhaps someone else could start a January thread when we have had enough of being festive.

Wafflenose · 14/01/2019 08:10

I'd love it if someone else started one. I've been starting and reading everything for 7 years, but need to devote a lot of time to another project for the next few weeks.

Would you like me to? I’ll do it now.

NeleusTheStatue · 14/01/2019 11:04

After I read catkind's post last night I requested MNHQ to add 'January' to this thread title so that we could carry on using it this month. Please ignore this and let's use the new thread CruCru kindly started.

Wafflenose · 14/01/2019 17:27

Great, thanks!
