Hi all,
Here's a new thread for the festive period - possibly including a bit of January if I'm away and unable to start another one in time. The old thread was making me nauseous.

I am a music teacher, so pretty busy athis the moment. I have just had results for 12 pupils' exams... 3 pass, 7 merit and 2 distinction. My DDs didn't do any this term, but have 9 concerts between them. Goo is 13 and plays the flute and piano. Rara is 10 and plays the cello and clarinet. What are you all up to musically?

I'm a big fan of letting kids hear/experience/try a wide range of instruments/ music styles. You just never know when something might really ignight a fire. I have a very soft spot for Emilia amper and her nyckelharpa after she played a little open concert at our local culture centre.....

LooseAtTheSeams · 16/12/2018 18:57

Mending I had to look her up - that was too intriguing - and I have to say she is just amazing!

Swedish folk music is great in general IMO. I don't want to totally out myself but I have a friend who plays it - if anyone wants Spotify links to an album or two of theirs then do PM me!

We are crawling to the end of term now. And still have quite a list of performances left to go this week. But it’s the home stretch.... the biggest 3 will be over by bedtime tomorrow. I just have one more week of work to survive to finish off our busiest month

foundoutyet · 17/12/2018 11:14

hm sat in the car waiting yesterday, thinking about some earlier posts about attending your dc perfomanaces.
and realised dc had about 10 performances, of which only 3.5 I have/will attend..
2 they couldn't make (no transport),
3 they had a lift from someone else,
1 was not for parents anyway
0.5 I will be a bit late

Anyway they know I would attend all if I could

Wafflenose · 17/12/2018 11:38

Goo has one tomorrow with her choir... it's a 3 hour extravaganza at £15 per ticket, finishes at 10.30pm and they are performing for about 10 minutes of it! So I won't be going to that one, or dragging poorly Rara along. I need to preserve her for two carol services on Wednesday. The that's it for us I think. Goo finishes school on Wednesday, Rara on Friday, and I finish work on Saturday.

Last one tomorrow for us - DS2 playing in school Carol concert, then we're done! We all finish for term on Friday - can't wait!

Stringchild · 17/12/2018 17:56

3 left after tonight’s Nine Lessons

RomanyRoots · 17/12/2018 18:00

Well dd finished on Friday and is enjoying lounging around doing nothing, except for practice. Grin
Hope you and/or your dc enjoy their concerts.

Doubleup · 17/12/2018 18:25

We have finished school and completed all Christmas musical commitments. Just me now limping through to the end of the week before I can have time off. Well DH is still working too and DD1 is revising for mocks.

cantkeepawayforever · 17/12/2018 19:16

NBB has finally finished musical events for the term (he has had a rehearsal, audition, performance or JD every day since the latter half of November...often more than 1 on the same day).

I have a school performance tomorrow, then we all break up on Friday.

Then A-level mocks in January, and 6th form open evenings for DD...

CruCru · 17/12/2018 21:43

Hi all

We're nearly at the end of term. I've stopped getting the children to practise for the next few days because they seem quite worn out. However, my daughter (5) is going to learn to play the violin from next term and is really excited - she got it out today and played while I played the piano.

littleladsdad · 17/12/2018 21:45

DS finished on Friday and has also been lounging around. End of term reports have put a stop to that, with plenty for him to be working on. Grin Hope you are all enjoying yourevents this week - nearly there now!

Yes only 2 more concerts to go plus one set of carols !! It’s been quite a marathon . I think ds definitely needs a break - though he seems to think he’s doing lots of trumpet/ cornet ( he’s got a tricky brass band test piece to sort out !

Trumpet - dd def needs a break and so do I; v gentle holiday period for us 😀

raspberryrippleicecream · 18/12/2018 09:09

Thank you for all the encouraging comments for DS2's piano Grade 8. Heard this morning he got a Distinction! One very happy boy.

Enjoying the run up to Christmas now. After the piano exam and 3 weeks of GCSE mocks DS is on works experience this week with the arts group he plays for. And he is singing Midnight Eucharist and possibly Christmas morning so no let up just yet.

raspberryrippleicecream · 18/12/2018 09:12

Welcome oldandgold.

Three instruments isn't necessarily too many. DS2 has piano, organ and trombone plus singing and playing commitments. He dropped clarinet to start organ - I did feel that would be too many!

I had the GCSE/A level combo a couple of years ago .....

andantecantabile · 18/12/2018 09:15

@PetraDelphiki sorry I just saw your comment upthread, do EDYO need any clarinets?

MeltingWax · 18/12/2018 09:38

Wow raspberry - that's a fantastic result - very well done to your DS!

Welcome to those joining the threads!

LooseAtTheSeams · 18/12/2018 10:07
