Just booked DD(14)'s audition, her first year. Very nervous for her and there are three months to go.

She has done well as the big fish in a small pond and had really good NODA reports, comments on Lamda exams and in local competitions. Now it is time for her to put herself out there in the big wide world.
We know the odds are against her and we talk about the experience being good.

She had a lovely day thanks Biscuits. As always, ran into people she hadn't seen since last season and had great fun. Pretty sure her tap is not currently up to the required standard, so doesnt expect to go further on that one. It's a nightmare moving her up and down the country every weekend for these auditions!

Biscuitsneeded · 25/02/2019 10:25

Glad she enjoyed it. I guess they will want lots of great tappers but hopefully not everyone needs to be amazing if doing eg a character role? I know people who felt they were recalled for their tap but didn't shine at singing and vice versa so maybe there's room for both (as well as the utter stars who can do everything!!). Fingers crossed. DS enjoyed his day very much too, and feels he had the chance to show his best self, so that's good even if a show doesn't materialise for him this time.

Antaresisastar · 25/02/2019 10:54

Jan, she didn't mention being asked to stay behind, no.

janinlondon · 25/02/2019 12:46

You are always so positive and kind Biscuits!!! I am just aware that they were all recalled for the same part, so the chances are pretty slim... Still, we have other options still on the table and she has a show next term to get herself sorted for. I need to channel some of your positivity don't I! I really hope your DS does get a show he wants. Antares there was one girl on Saturday who was apparently very funny and was asked to stay behind. Everyone was postulating that she's been chosen for Erma. Oh the gossip mill is running hot!

Biscuitsneeded · 25/02/2019 13:35

Hee hee hee - the gossip mill often gets things wrong! I don't think NYMT would definitively cast anyone on Saturday given there was still a whole day of recalls to go. I have to keep reminding DS there have been 5 other recall sessions for each show besides his, as he's inclined to try and mentally cast just from the people he met in his session! Then again, he has also correctly predicted a few casting decisions based on what he's seen in recalls so perhaps the auditionees do pick up a scent! Jan, your DD is certainly very accomplished. I hope she gets an NYMT place this year, but if she doesn't I'm sure her other irons in the fire will materialise! I also think with AG they asked loads and loads of people to prepare for a certain part - it maybe wasn't a recall just for that part as such, but more to provide something suitable for them to read/perform. They could end up being cast, but in a different role. But I don't know this - pure speculation on my part.

minimits · 25/02/2019 22:34

DS has just told me they were told by the AG director and Jeremy that there were a record number of auditionees this year-1500! They recalled 100 for AG so whatever happens to all of our DS and DD's they should be incredibly proud of their recall! And proud if they didn't get one-very tough year! That's a lot of children!

MariaMT · 26/02/2019 18:27

Hello Mums, just thought I would join the chat as like you are waiting to hear news re the Recalls. My DD was recalled for Parade and the New Musical workshop (not really sure what that is all about?) She attended Saturday midday and came out happy and then said the standard was very high! She's 15 and said that there were a few "younger girl" parts but most of the parts are for older people. Last year she didn't get to recalls so this is new territory for us. Having to keep checking my emails!!! Smile

Antaresisastar · 26/02/2019 19:02

Hi Maria, good luck to your dd. I'm pleased that decisions will be made quickly, waiting is difficult. My dd is older so any news will go to her first.

MariaMT · 26/02/2019 19:12

Thank you Antaresisastar, I keep trying to say to myself I doesn't matter if she gets in or not!! In fact we haven't mentioned it in two days Smile However, we just want our kids to be happy, don't we. Good luck to your daughter...as you say, we"ll know soon enough.

Biscuitsneeded · 27/02/2019 08:00

Good luck to all the recalled DC waiting for news. Hopefully they'll hear very soon now...

janinlondon · 27/02/2019 08:38

I am thinking it will be tomorrow....?

Biscuitsneeded · 27/02/2019 15:22

I have known results come Weds night or Thursday night. Guess it depends if they are in complete agreement and are in a position to send. DS has melted down today. Managed to get sent home from school 'ill'. I diagnose a severe case of distraction, inability to concentrate at school and some nervous exhaustion!

minimits · 27/02/2019 15:37

Oh Lordy! Funnily enough DS is also home-he has his ballet show Sunday and has been doing 3 hours a night-that and berocis exhaustion has pushed him to the edge so didn’t even attempt school today! Just need to know now!

janinlondon · 27/02/2019 15:45

DD is presuming its a no. So that puts her in a less stressful place I think......

Biscuitsneeded · 27/02/2019 15:58

Haha Minimits, mine is also rehearsing every night for something. It's a good distraction I suppose...

minimits · 27/02/2019 16:04

We are just assuming a no. And good to have something to keep them busy indeed biscuits! If we don’t know tonight I am going to be very distracted tomorrow!

Antaresisastar · 27/02/2019 18:19

Biscuits, dd has asked me to ask what sort of time you've heard in previous years? She's assuming it will be tomorrow now? I have no idea but it's obviously on her mind. Thank you.

Biscuitsneeded · 27/02/2019 19:05

I also think tomorrow now, and usually they start early evening but can go on till quite late.eg 11ish ..Good luck all .

MariaMT · 27/02/2019 22:20

My DD received her email at 9.30 this evening saying sorry it’s a no this time. She’s obviously disappointed but is putting a brave face on. I’m thinking that with her gcse’s this year it could be a blessing. Hope your DC get better news...until next time x

Biscuitsneeded · 27/02/2019 22:22

Ah, sorry to read that Maria. I hope your DD is OK. She should definitely try again as a recall is a really good sign. Nothing here... yet...

MariaMT · 27/02/2019 22:42

Thanks Biscuits, you’re right a recall is a huge achievement and great experience.
Hope you all find out soon.

minimits · 27/02/2019 22:53

Sorry to hear that Maria, one dissapointed DS here too so sending lots of virtual sympathy! Hope she’s ok x

MariaMT · 27/02/2019 23:13

It’s so hard isn’t it, everyone says learning to deal with knock backs is so important though. I’m sure we are saying all the right things but it doesn’t make it any easier.

It will be a little bit better in the morning hopefully.

Lonecatwithkitten · 28/02/2019 06:43

I am sorry to hear that Maria as hard as it is for us as parents to see them disappointed it is the way the industry is.

Antaresisastar · 28/02/2019 07:17

So sorry Maria and minimits. Dd received her email at about 1am! She's been offered a part in AG. Very happy.
