NYMT-2019

Just booked DD(14)'s audition, her first year. Very nervous for her and there are three months to go.

She has done well as the big fish in a small pond and had really good NODA reports, comments on Lamda exams and in local competitions. Now it is time for her to put herself out there in the big wide world.
We know the odds are against her and we talk about the experience being good.

He doesn’t think it was him-he doesn’t remember any one talking to him but that doesn’t always mean much! Grin

minimits · 25/01/2019 08:49

Hey Eviltwins how did it go for your students?

EvilTwins · 26/01/2019 00:43

The older one is recalled for Parade - he only wants that (and told them so - he’s 19 now and at LIPA, and is hoping to take a show to Edinburgh this year so Parade is the only one that fits) The younger brother got a no, but it was his first time AND when I went through stuff with him the day before he was iffy about his words so maybe not a huge surprise. He was fine about it through - said he’d try again next year.

minimits · 26/01/2019 10:46

Well done to the older one and sounds like the younger one still had a good time. DS is getting nervous already knowing the standard for recalls but am trying to reassure him that he can only be himself and he either fits or not. I’m trying not to invest any Hope in it as it means so much to him!

EvilTwins · 26/01/2019 11:24

In a way it’s good that recalls are for specific shows - it means it’s about not being the right fit rather than not being good enough. NYT seems more personal.

Biscuitsneeded · 26/01/2019 12:16

I think it's really important for kids to realise that if they get a recall it's because they were at the required standard. After that it comes down to best fit for the roles so if they are unsuccessful they really should dust themselves off and come back the next year. My DS knows the most phenomenal kids who have had to sit it out when there just wasn't a part for them, and is fully aware it could be his turn any year. But a recall is a significant achievement.

janinlondon · 29/01/2019 11:39

Hello old friends - I knew I'd find you lot on here again! Quick question - has anyone had the material for the call backs sent to them yet? I can't remember how long we got last time but I know it was quite short......?

Biscuitsneeded · 29/01/2019 12:17

Hello Jan. Watched your daughter last summer (I worked out which one she is!) and she was fab. Glad she's keen for a second go! Recall materials don't come until about a week before recall weekend so you can relax for a bit! Whatvis she recalled for? Congrats to get. My DS is recalled for Growl and Legend Trippers.

janinlondon · 29/01/2019 12:25

Hi Biscuits (waves) - yes I thought it was going to be something like a week. Thanks for confirming. She's a belter - so recalled for Anything Goes. She has unearthed her tap shoes.....Well done to your DS. I have no doubt he will be back on stage this summer.

janinlondon · 06/02/2019 12:17

Possibly off topic here, but I thought you were the most likely group to ask - did anyone do the Dear Evan Hansen open call in London...?

janinlondon · 06/02/2019 13:53

EvilTwins I am looking at you! Wink

Biscuitsneeded · 06/02/2019 14:17

Haha. DS not really the right age! Did your DD go? I am always suspicious that these type of events are just publicity stunts...

janinlondon · 07/02/2019 09:39

Well yes Biscuits - I think your DS might have been a bit young! There were literally thousands of kids in a queue that doubled twice round the block. I imagine many wouldnt have made it into the building. I thought Evil's boys might have been among them.....

janinlondon · 07/02/2019 14:37

(Oh - and I was a bit Hmm about it too - but it seems to have been entirely legit. There have been recalls etc)

Lonecatwithkitten · 11/02/2019 16:14

I thought I would pop back to see how everyone is doing.
When I collected DD from the NYMT audition she complained of feeling unwell, she then deteriorated over the next few days and after a long drawn out process ended up having her appendix out. So I suspect she wasn't firing on all cylinders on that day.
She has recovered from surgery well and has an audition prep course next week and then the BYMT audition on the Saturday.
I am glad to see everyone is getting on well and fingers crossed for the callbacks.

Oh lonecat that must have been awful for her. I hope she is fully recovered for her YMT audition - and that she enjoys it! From our experience, the YMT ones are very stress free. DD is doing a recall in an hour, and i am ridiculously nervous for her.

minimits · 13/02/2019 11:23

Oh no! Poor girl! DS said his BYMT audition was very chilled this year. Hope she enjoys it! Hoping to get NYMT recall material soon-I’m more nervous than him I think!

janinlondon · 13/02/2019 11:34

The recall was a bit of a non-event in the end. Just another 16 bar performance, but with a larger group of casting agents. In any case, NYMT recall material came through for us last night Mini....? Quick question to old hands - they seem to be recalling people for specific parts. In the past, our recall day was general, and when the offers went out they were for specific parts. Is this something new?

minimits · 13/02/2019 15:00

Argh no email here! Will see if others have there's and then email.

janinlondon · 13/02/2019 15:53

Bizarrely, the recall notes say "soft shoes"....??? For Anything Goes?? How??

Biscuitsneeded · 13/02/2019 16:59

Oh Jan well done to your DD on the recall - for Dear Evan Hansen? Fab news and fingers crossed. DS' recall info only came this pm so I wouldn't panic yet if anyone hasn't got theirs. Jan, I think each creative team do things differently, so yes they may be recalling for specific parts - a friend of ours with AG recall has 2 specific parts to prepare for. Has your DD? I guess it means you need soft shoes AND maybe tap shoes? I guess they will dance in other styles than tap too.
Lonecat, sorry to ear about your poor DD. DS had same thing a couple of years ago - not fun at all.

minimits · 13/02/2019 18:03

email received-ours says tap shoes but soft shoes if they don't have them. Exciting times!

janinlondon · 14/02/2019 08:09

Thanks Biscuits - she was chuffed to get that far with DEH, though it costs a bomb to get her up and down from Uni for all these! Doesnt expect to go any further, but said everyone recalled for Zoe was amazing. She is just recalled for one part for AG. I guess she will take her tap shoes in anyway. (God knows she hasnt used them in forever...!)

NotEnoughTime · 16/02/2019 17:39

Hello

I remember some of you from last years thread Smile
My DS had a fab experience last Summer with the NYMT.
He went to the London audition today so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it has gone well for him-I know he would love to be chosen again this year.
Well done to all DC who have been recalled and commiserations to those who haven't.

NET x

EvilTwins · 16/02/2019 22:20

Just catching up. None of mine went for DEH. The ones I currently teach are too tied up in drama school auditions and my NYMT boy is in his first year at LIPA so not likely to be going for anything - they’re really precious about them doing anything whilst studying - he had to check it was ok for him to audition for NYMT!
