The new annual thread for those interested and/or auditioning! Ask questions, update your news - lots of nco parents on board and those hoping to be :)

Well done ministring! Waffle, I'm thinking of you and your DDs.

hapsburg · 14/12/2017 18:00

Just popped in to see how everyone got on - very well done to all - but oh my goodness waffle, thinking of you and Goo. I think you will find all her NCO friends will be very supportive and she will be far from the only one this has happened to - 2 years ago one of my DD's friends didn't get into under 13's when all the rest of their little group did. They were all lovely to her, kept in touch and even made a pact that at the first rehearsal of the year they would all sit and refuse to play until Roger rang the friend and told her he had made a mistake! Fortunately they did not carry this out and friend got into Main Orchestra with the rest of them the following year Grin

stringchild · 14/12/2017 18:14

Waffle - completely agree with Hapsburg. I know they are being v kind today and of course that groups is pretty broken up by s few of the results this year.

Rara got into under 10s. I am really pleased for her, but it's complicated. Goo's pain is indescribable... and out of all proportion, I should add.

Paulweller11 · 14/12/2017 18:23

Congrats Rara- very difficult for you having one in and one not Confused.
Hope Goo is ok x

WindMum · 14/12/2017 18:25

Congrats to those who received good news today. So sorry for those who are disappointed.

Wafflenose · 14/12/2017 18:26

Unfortunately Goo's audition went very much better. She is back in silent mode, and I can see why she feels it is unfair.

stringchild · 14/12/2017 18:27

Well done Rara - clarinet? I knew she would when I saw her video. I am sorry it makes it worse today for Goo but hopefully not for long. Would Goo do something else in the summer such as the Wells course?

But u10s and U12s are really not comparable? Remember my dd git. In with g1 - there just isn’t the competition on wind and brass that there is by the time they hit yr7. Which is why Get had the wind and brass course before they created the u10s

Yes clarinet. She squeaked through her last line and missed the 3rd sharp in the key signature. Teacher and I felt Goo was flawless. She's unbelievably intense and emotional. I think we will just hope a place comes up.

TrumpetVoluntary · 14/12/2017 18:33

Congrats to everyone who has got in and hope the children who didn’t are coping with the news.
Waffle - that sounds really difficult for your daughter and for family dynamics generally.

Trumpetboysmum · 14/12/2017 18:35

Oh my goodness waffle I kind of guessed that something like that was going to happen . Well done Rara that's a fantastic achievement ( cello or clarinet?)
Poor Goo that will make it seem even worse I'm sure but it's nearly the holidays hopefully once she gets to rest she will start to put it into perspective .

Trumpetboysmum · 14/12/2017 18:36

Sorry cross post on the clarinet

I think that's what's so hard about it all it's not just about how they play, but how everyone else plays. Also she did obviously play very well to be in the reserves flute is so competitive

folkmamma · 14/12/2017 20:20

Oh waffle how difficult! My two are fiercely competitive and I'm dreading the day they both go in for the same opportunity. Noo does lots of theatre (She's currently in professional panto) and Moll is making noises about wanting to try out next year too. If Moll got in and Nia didn't... phew... doesn't bear thinking about. Goo's heart must be breaking, love her. And yet you have to be happy and excited for Rara as it's such an achievement for her too. If it's any consolation, we had a similar situation with panto friends this year - big sister had been in for 2 years but didn't make it this year and Little sister did. Mum was torn, eldest DD was shattered but after a few days it all settled and now eldest DD is hugely supportive. Xx

Floottoot · 14/12/2017 21:20

Huge congratulations to all the national and regional successes - simply fantastic! Enjoy every minute!

And a well-deserved slap on the back to all their parents, who are so instrumental ( excuse the pun!) in the whole process. Hope you're all enjoying a large glass of something very alcoholic tonight. 😀😀😀

Wafflenose · 14/12/2017 21:35

Thanks for all your lovely words! Yes Goo is heartbroken but she finds most things easy and just has no experience of major disappointment. She brought home 15 A grades for her 15 school subjects, a silver award for 200 house points and an attitude to learning certificate today. Teacher has rung to talk some sense into her too. She will have to learn to deal with setbacks at some point. Rara is bemused, as she knew she could have played better. But it was evidently good enough.

Ah, alcohol! Yes!

Kutik73 · 15/12/2017 00:13

Well done to Rara. She so deserves it.

Sounds like Goo has lovely teachers who are caring enough to ring her. That's so so nice.

littleladsdad · 15/12/2017 09:52

Trumpetboysmum Thank you!

folkmamma · 15/12/2017 10:15

Well, I think that's all of us that have heard now then?? Well done to all everyone; auditionees, associates, reserves and full members alike. Now to the next leg of our NCO journeys!! Look forward to seeing some of you at South Easterlies. Did someone mention there was another regular thread?? It would be nice to keep in touch :-)

Doubleup · 15/12/2017 10:20

December Music Thread, although it never comes up when I search it. Find the November one and there is a link at the bottom which will take you to December.

Nigglenotes · 15/12/2017 10:47

Looking forward to Easterlies and seeing Trumpet and minitrumpet and anyone else who is going to this regional.

See you all back here next year.

Wafflenose · 15/12/2017 10:49

Anyone else for South Westerlies? Both my girls are signed up. Last night I realised they will both be in matching red skirts (little and large) and playing together at the local concert in November... how gorgeous!

stringchild · 15/12/2017 10:53

London Seniors again for us hopefully 😀
