The new annual thread for those interested and/or auditioning! Ask questions, update your news - lots of nco parents on board and those hoping to be :)

Well done little Kutik! And all others who are in.

Ah! ok. Its all too new to us. New journey our first born is taking us on. Looking at the regionals list, think Northerlies will be the closest. Any Northerlies viola players on here?

Nigglenotes · 14/12/2017 14:18

Excellent Kutik, worth waiting for!

Wafflenose · 14/12/2017 14:21

Well done everyone!

Paulweller11 · 14/12/2017 14:23

We will be at Northerlies- for violin and percussion though x
Congrats Kutiks ds, and anyone else I’ve missed x

Musicdoc · 14/12/2017 14:27

Fab news kutik73.... well deserved!
Crazy.... associate member (invited to attend a monthly regional orchestra) means meeting NCO standards, but more children performed at a higher standard on the audition day to get a place in the age-banded orchestra (i.e. Attend a residential course). So still a great achievement.

littleladsdad · 14/12/2017 14:31

Kutik73 - thank you and congratulations!

Musicdocs - thank you, yes tricky decision indeed.

Paulweller11 - thanks for your thoughts, which probably mirror mine.

Nigglenotes - He's 12, Grade 7 Distinction on paper but now playing at Grade 8 standard. Don't think either school are too bothered about Grades though - it's about musicianship, musicality and potential (I'm sure you've heard this before). DS is blessed with ice water flowing in his veins when playing in public - I think this helps too! DS went to the summer school at Wells this year, something I'd highly recommend to you, although not sure your DD is old enough yet.

Good news is that next time he auditions for NCO he'll have a superb accompanist. Logistics meant he went without this time and I do think it makes a difference, regardless of reassurances to the contrary.

threefun · 14/12/2017 14:38

Well our email finally arrived and it's a yes for DS for u13s cello! He will be absolutely delighted and excited to see his friends again - and I'm delighted to be able to stop refreshing the emails! I hope everyone else isn't waiting for much longer - and big well dones to all of your fabulous children Smile

Nigglenotes · 14/12/2017 14:51

Thanks Ladsdad, I guess that is Year 7, with entry in Year 8?

We are Year 5, g5, hoping to do g6 in July (if teacher allows, and currently she says no).

Having an accompanist worked well for DD in audition. Can be quite tricky to arrange though!

Witchend · 14/12/2017 14:51

Wow! So many successes! Well done all, it sounds really impressive. None of mine are anywhere near that level, but it sounds an amazing opportunity.

Nigglenotes · 14/12/2017 14:52

Well done, Threefun!

Musicdoc · 14/12/2017 14:53

Threesfun Brilliant news... I expect our boys will be in touch soon!

Siriusmuggle · 14/12/2017 14:53

Mine didn’t have an accompanist so it didn’t make any difference in his case.

CrazyMamaOf2 · 14/12/2017 14:53

Musicdoc, thats great thank you. Think she will be a little disappointed. But an opportunity is what you make of it...

Thank you all for helping me through the last few days. Hope to see some of you at the Northerlies.

Trumpetboysmum · 14/12/2017 14:55

Well done kutik and double exciting news.
Threefun I wonder if it was your ds who was friends with mine at under 12s this year
Anyway amazingly despite him obviously not getting the transposition right in the unseen sight reading ( no surprises there) he's got a place in under 13's 😀 He will be a very happy boy.
String and waffle I hope you hear soon
Kutik I totally wasn't criticising NCO they can only work so fast I think next year will be better as we will all know that the emails won't all come out at once ! And the dcs will know this too ( I know they were all messaging each other yesterday and fretting)

littleladsdad · 14/12/2017 15:03

Siriusmuggle - I just prefer to hear ds accompanied in these situations, shows musicality to be able to play with someone too. Congratulations to your DS/DD.

stringchild · 14/12/2017 15:21

So I guess Waffle and I are last? Feel like last guests at the party....

CrazyMamaOf2 · 14/12/2017 15:25

Got to be good news for you 2! Fingers crossed...

folkmamma · 14/12/2017 15:36

Such a good news day!!! C'mon waffle and string... also wondering how Goo took her news...?? Xx

Kutik73 · 14/12/2017 15:36

Trumpet, that's a serious achievement! Well done to your DS! I suppose they also value 'have a go' 'can do' attitude on top of abilities.

HouseFullofCats · 14/12/2017 15:49

We finally had our email, under 12s for DD on cello. Hopefully not too many still waiting to hear.

Trumpetboysmum · 14/12/2017 15:50

Thanks kutik. Looking at the comments I think everything else was spot on and they did mention that while his transposition wasn't secure he did keep going !! I'm relieved it didn't count against him though as they didn't ask all of his trumpet friends to transpose and we weren't expecting it at all - won't be making that mistake next year Grin

Trumpetboysmum · 14/12/2017 16:06

Littlelads dad what an amazing achievement and how exciting but a tricky decision . Ds had to audition without an accompanist as we live so far from the venues etc and I was worried about it. I too think it can sound better to play accompanied but am relieved that the NCO don't insist on it.

stringchild · 14/12/2017 16:19

U12s so dd will be very happy indeed 😀

Fantastic news string and ministering well done.
Waffle I'm really hoping that you hear about Rara soon x

Wafflenose · 14/12/2017 16:39

Clarinet again? Well done to her!

Just got Rara's but want to talk to family first. I will be back.
