The new annual thread for those interested and/or auditioning! Ask questions, update your news - lots of nco parents on board and those hoping to be :)

Annoyingly the only regional orchestra for which they don’t have dates is the London Junior which I have put down as DDs first choice (southeasterlies are second as quite a long drive)

Instead they have posted the dates of the London senior twice!

CharisInAlexandria · 13/12/2017 12:58

Just phoned and spoke to a helpful lady who said that the London junior and Senior Orchestra are on the same date.

marmadukehussey · 13/12/2017 12:59

Just received the second email for DD2. It's a yes for the Training Orchestra and regionals. She is going to be over the moon :-)

Good luck everyone still waiting.

CharisInAlexandria · 13/12/2017 12:59

Oh and we will hear in January which regional orchestra we will be allocated to. So London Junior or Southeasterlies for DD.

Happy either way.

bassclef · 13/12/2017 13:00

Massive congratulations to mini marmaduke! I think the first to get a yes for residentials on this board!

folkmamma · 13/12/2017 13:03

Yay for miniMarm!!!! at last the Yes's are coming!! Smile

marmadukehussey · 13/12/2017 13:09

Thanks bassclef and folkmamma - she looked so despondent this morning, it'll come as both and joy and a relief for her to know!

Fingers firmly crossed for everyone else x

stringchild · 13/12/2017 13:13

Well done Marmaduke juniot😀

Regionals and reserve list for U12 for Goo.

If you or your children know her, please do NOT share this information because she doesn't know yet. We'll tell her after her concert tonight.

marmadukehussey · 13/12/2017 13:16

Thank you, stringchild :-)

folkmamma · 13/12/2017 13:19

How do you think she will take it waffle??

Wafflenose · 13/12/2017 13:20

I am grateful she can go to anything at all, and I realise it's very good. NCO is her whole life though (perhaps unhealthily so) and she is going to be devastated. I won't be surprised if she tries to give up the flute.

folkmamma · 13/12/2017 13:23

Awww, bless her. it must be so hard when they have formerly been full members. At least we've only ever known Regionals... Let's hope she doesn't give up and finds some joy in Regionals this year!!! xx

CoffeeTeaChocholate · 13/12/2017 13:23

Oh Waffle, I am so sorry to hear that you think DD will be disappointed. It sounds like she has done amazingly well, but it is so hard to be missing out on something you want so much x

Musicdoc · 13/12/2017 13:25

Well done to minimarmaduke.
Waffle I feel your pain for Goo. Hopefully she will get through as a reserve. They are all brilliant to get through this far though.

TrumpetVoluntary · 13/12/2017 13:26

Wow - the first invite to residentials! Well done to marmaduke’s DD!
Waffle - that must be really difficult if the child has been already to a residential and is desperate to go again. Hopefully she will get a place from being on the reserve list.

stringchild · 13/12/2017 13:26

Waffle - I am shocked (and of course re not sharing).

Kutik73 · 13/12/2017 13:27

As someone pointed earlier, anyone who got a place, no matter if it's national or regional or reserve, their playing is considered to be met the NCO standard. As Goo has been in the NCO for many years, and especially U12 is a repeat to her, and also as there are no many places for her instrument, I believe NCO decided to give someone else a chance to play in the national orchestra. I can imagine how devastate she will be but it's very obvious that she is as good as anyone in the national orchestra. Seriously. We all know ho great she is.

Minimusiciansmama · 13/12/2017 13:46

I am so sad for Goo, big shock. Proud of her for all she's achieving. Regionals is still going to mean nco is a good part of her life but it's a hard pill for her to swallow Sad

marmadukehussey · 13/12/2017 13:52

Kutik, yes, that's what I was told, too, in previous years about the standard.

Wafflenose, huge congrats to your daughter and I understand. This time last year DD1 was in a similar situation (was on the residential - after being a reserve, though).

Thanks, TrumpetVoluntary and Musicdoc, too.

Minimusiciansmama · 13/12/2017 13:58

Congrats minimarmaduke!!

Kutik73 · 13/12/2017 14:01

Congratulation minimarmaduke. Star

marmadukehussey · 13/12/2017 14:05

Thank you, Minimusiciansmama and Kutik73

Trumpetboysmum · 13/12/2017 14:16

Well done mini marmaduke and anyone else who has heard who I've missed .
Well done to Goo though waffle I know she will be disappointed and I am truely shocked but she is fantastic and should just keep playing x

dancingqueen16 · 13/12/2017 14:20

I think with the changed age bands this year there may be fewer places as I heard eligible Main orchestra members are being reoffered a place (if they are the right age). This means fewer children can 'move up'. My dd has been national /residential member for 2 years and did not get into Main orchestra (we found out last night). This was a shock as she sits quite high in her section so we didn't think she was at risk. A very bitter pill to swallow, Waffle. I feel your pain. My dd took it well, I was so nervous to tell her. She has been offered reserve list and regional but I'm not sure if she'll just want to end her time with NCO on the high that was the winter concert in Birmingham a few weekends ago.
