I was also told that there weren't many reserves so all those with this extra award on top of associate membership should be disheartened at all.

stringchild · 13/12/2017 09:59

I think I gave mentioned before that roger Clarkson stressed to everyone a few years ago that everyone with any place has met the NCO standard and deserve to be there - there are only so m ah residential course places to go around 😀

Hi, Just went to the NCO website and the names of children are up under National Orchestras, Full membership lists.

stringchild · 13/12/2017 10:11

Niggje - that’s the 2017 lists?

So, rush over there, and then come back!

Nigglenotes · 13/12/2017 10:12

Yes, sorry! All the other info has been updated for 2018.

folkmamma · 13/12/2017 10:23

To echo others' comments, reserves and associates are all 'on standard'. I genuinely felt when watching my DD in Regionals there was no way of telling the associates from full members, other than the backs of their hoodies! So much comes into play - remember it is a National orchestra, so they need to make sure there is representation from the whole of the UK and from a diverse range of backgrounds. And for some sections, there are just sooo many kids playing at a really high standard. Getting any offer is an amazing achievement and although we all feel that little tinge of 'if only' or 'what do they have to do!?' (myself included), this is a wonderful organisation to be a part of and even being in the position to audition means all our DC's are doing incredibly well. I certainly wasn't playing at this standard at 10, and I am a very happy (and reasonably able) amateur musician with a true passion for music. What lies ahead for these talented DC's is very exciting....

folkmamma · 13/12/2017 10:28

Sorry, that all sounds a bit preachy, doesn't it? Grin

Floottoot · 13/12/2017 10:31

Well said, Folk.
Speaking personally, I'd have been over the moon if ds had been offered regionals. Silver medal is better than no medal!

TRL · 13/12/2017 10:35

Just been offered Reserves for U12's for DD1.

stringchild · 13/12/2017 10:39

TRL - was your dd U12s last year or u11s?

OP posts:
folkmamma · 13/12/2017 10:42

Congrats miniTRL!! just to throw another theory out there, where does your surname lie alphabetically?? We are 'A'....

littleladsdad · 13/12/2017 10:48

Still waiting for news of U13 here. Also waiting to hear from NCBBGB - postie delivering for the first time in days later so very tense here!

stringchild · 13/12/2017 10:48

And congratulations TRL - sorry pressed too soon 😀

OP posts:
TRL · 13/12/2017 10:50

U11's, string. Think she'll be gutted after 2 years of residentials. Been a tough week for her ... Resilience Training Bootcamp!!

folk, we are 'H'

stringchild · 13/12/2017 10:59

Oh TRL it is tough when they enjoy it so much - hopefully there is something nice dd wants to go

Congratulations to all regionals and reserves DC! Well done to them all (and their parents!). Nothing here, still waiting...
Luckily as it was my DS first audition ever, he does not have any expectations and I have not even told him we are expecting news. He is blissfully unaware :), it is only me refreshing and waiting

Minimusiciansmama · 13/12/2017 11:04

trl well done but sorry too, that's tough when they know what they'll be missing xx

violinistmum well done to your mini too. My little lady is clarinet x

Any Northerlies on here? Xx

folkmamma · 13/12/2017 11:07

So we have 'A', 'H' anymore?? I wonder are they working through associates in alphabetical order.... (ever the scientist!)

littleladsdad · 13/12/2017 11:12

DS has been offered U13 Reserves and Regional (although there doesn't seem to be a regional anywhere close to us in Shropshire!). Not quite sure what to do.Is it worth the travelling to attend the regionals?

violinistmum · 13/12/2017 11:12

Mini - we may try Northerlies. We're much closer to South Westerlies but ds has his music lessons every Saturday so it will clash. We're deciding whether to go for London Juniors or Northerlies.

littleladsdad · 13/12/2017 11:13

'F' by the way Folkmamma.

Eroica · 13/12/2017 11:13

Finally!
Well, it's reserves and regionals for DD, so better than last year. Her report was not particularly complimentary, so I'm a bit Confused really.
Sadly, as we're a two and a half mile drive from three of the regionals, it's just not going to happen, but I'm not completely disappointed which is probably for the best as DH's illness means we're rather more strapped for cash than previously years though DD may be when she hears.

Congratulations to all that got places.Flowers Star

HouseFullofCats · 13/12/2017 11:14

NCO have just posted on Facebook about offers of associate membership and linked to the regional orchestra sign up.

Congratulations to all who have been offered places, it's a fantastic achievement. It's really heartwarming to see so many young people playing instruments to such a high level.

folkmamma · 13/12/2017 11:17

littleladsdad Regionals are a fantastic experience - definitely worth the effort if you can....
