The new annual thread for those interested and/or auditioning! Ask questions, update your news - lots of nco parents on board and those hoping to be :)

I bet it was Floot . To be honest I think we are all fed up with waiting here - but we still all can't help thinking about it. It is literally the first thing ds asks about every day when he walks through the door . Hopefully by the end of the week we'll here something it could be disastrous if it's a no and we find out in the day of ds's concert and solo but he says he wants me to tell him whatever the result is .

ChocolateFryingPan · 12/12/2017 12:22

My son was fine about it thank goodness. I am a bit disappointed for him though given the struggle he has

dancingqueen16 · 12/12/2017 12:44

Hi, I am also eagerly waiting for results...
DD did Young NSSO a couple of years ago which I would recommend. It's a one week residential course in July in Malvern.

CharisInAlexandria · 12/12/2017 12:51

Just heard that we got regionals again but not the age group orchestra. I actually think DD will be chuffed. Her playing has improved lots even since the audition so roll on next year.

stringchild · 12/12/2017 12:53

Well done to your dc Charis - which instrument/age group is dd? We live Regionals I must admit - travel distance makes it a family day out!!

Ah, well done miniCharis. Good to hear.

CharisInAlexandria · 12/12/2017 12:54

Violin under 11s
Sadly she doesn’t benefit from being born at the end of August

bassclef · 12/12/2017 12:54

Well done Charis' DD!

CharisInAlexandria · 12/12/2017 12:55

They didn’t like her performance of Vivaldi in A minor much and suggested that she should have chosen a different piece!

stringchild · 12/12/2017 12:56

I can also vouch for young nsso - dd’s first residential and really excellamtb

CharisInAlexandria · 12/12/2017 12:57

That said she played it in a music scholarship audition yesterday and it was sounding loads better than in October.

marmadukehussey · 12/12/2017 12:57

Here too! Regionals/associate again. So pleased with that outcome and I know D is thrilled, too. Constructive feedback also from the adjudicator, which is really beneficial.

Just waiting for one more result for Training orchestra.

Huge well done to everyone who auditioned and hang in there to everyone still waiting.

bassclef · 12/12/2017 12:58

Well done to marmaduke's dc too! Regionals is a great achievement.

Nothing here yet...

marmadukehussey · 12/12/2017 13:02

Thanks, bassclef - she absolutely loves it.

Fingers crossed for everyone else x

Nigglenotes · 12/12/2017 13:04

Well done! What a relief for you both.

DD also did the NSSO residential last year, her first time away from home, and she had a wonderful time. She is going again this year.

violinistmum · 12/12/2017 13:04

Congratulations Marmaduke and Charis. That's wonderful news!

Nigglenotes · 12/12/2017 13:06

We were thinking about Vivaldi in a minor Charis, but in the end went for a Bohm piece.

violinistmum · 12/12/2017 13:08

Charis we also chose the Vivaldi A minor. My ds went for the first movt and loved playing it Smile

CharisInAlexandria · 12/12/2017 13:09

I think Vivaldi in A minor is not a great choice as everyone plays it. This was pointed out on this board but it was too late by the time I read it.

Basically they have all heard it 1000 times so if you are going to play it then it had better be good!

That said it sounds great now but I would only recommend it to a dc who can absolutely nail it.

CharisInAlexandria · 12/12/2017 13:11

volinistmum I am sure your ds did it brilliantly

stringchild · 12/12/2017 13:11

Congratulations Marmaduke!

At the NCO audition we were told by another parent about the NSSO. I think we'll try that if unsuccessful. Be careful though because I'm sure when I checked the deadline was fairly soon. It may have been end Dec or early Jan if my memory is correct! Worth checking out!

Nigglenotes · 12/12/2017 13:13

31 Dec for NSSO this year.

violinistmum · 12/12/2017 13:16

Ah, thanks Charis. We'll find out soon enough! I had also heard the same about Vivaldi and also too late to change! Your dd has done brilliantly with it though! My son will be so happy if he makes regionals!

violinistmum · 12/12/2017 13:19

Thanks Niggle. That (hopefully!) gives us time to get NCO results in first and decide whether to try nsso if unsuccessful
