The new annual thread for those interested and/or auditioning! Ask questions, update your news - lots of nco parents on board and those hoping to be :)

Okay, so we are into next week! Personally, my expectations are low, given the competition on violin, but DD has had an amazing year going from g2 last Christmas, to g5 now and squeezing in g5 theory along the way. So couldn't have asked for more from her. Either way, a great musical year.

Floottoot · 08/12/2017 20:55

That made me laugh, Double!
Niggle, I think that counts as an AMAZING year - wow!! A place in NCO or not won't change the incredible progress she's made.

Musicdoc · 08/12/2017 21:19

Bassclef I can just imagine how that email felt!
Michaelahpurple we've had similar issues with hedging our bets - both have mine have been offered by places in NCCO this year, and one of them has an opportunity with a collaboration of Chineke! juniors/NYO at the same time.
It would have been nice to know exactly when results were out so we could plan... but only a few more days now Smile

Doubleup · 11/12/2017 08:18

Just hit the send button!!!

Floottoot · 11/12/2017 08:22

Double, my thoughts exactly!
I'm a bit 😕 at their statement that suggests not all children will hear at the same time; wasn't that why they swopped from post?
This week is going to be stressful enough, with various concerts etc, without checking emails every 5 minutes!

Doubleup · 11/12/2017 08:44

I have finally managed to sync my e-mails with my phone though, so I don't have to fret all day until I get home, but I do wish they'd get on with it!

Lots to take our minds off it this weekend with two concerts and a snow day, but now back to the wait....

stringchild · 11/12/2017 08:56

Last year we had school entrance results •3 and Nco all in same week; wine saved me ...

This is so stressful... the silly thing is that it is such a long shot for us (first audition) and DD did mess up sight reading, but I keep thinking "what if".... just need to get the results and move on. I have tons to do today and am back to refreshing like mad

Floottoot · 11/12/2017 09:47

Coffee, we're in the same position. DS's first audition and he was nervous, so no idea how it went, plus he's nowhere near as advanced as others.

TrumpetVoluntary · 11/12/2017 10:12

We are in a similar position to you both, coffee and floottoot - first time trying and no idea what to expect. Also we were told the wrong audition time and so we arrived at a time we thought was early to find that DD was actually late and didn’t have time to warm up properly! So I was trying not to get my hopes up. But what with expecting to hear last week and the head of music at DD’s school bugging me I am getting more and more nervous!

violinistmum · 11/12/2017 10:17

We're new to this too Coffee, Floottoot and Trumpet, so no idea what to expect. My poor little man asks constantly if I think he'll get in. I'm just desperate for him to know so that he can stop worrying about it!

Trumpetboysmum · 11/12/2017 10:18

It's awful luckily I have a major mess up with our new windows to cope with Shock so I have less time to worry today . I know ds is fretting though and he has this solo to prep for plus a crazy number of tests this week so just knowing one way or the other would be good

Floottoot · 11/12/2017 10:43

Trumpetboy, it's too cold to have window problems - poor you! We're in week 26 of building work here and up against the clock to get things finished before Christmas, so I feel your pain.

Trumpetboysmum · 11/12/2017 11:00

Floot I think we are looking at being finished by next Christmas Grin and yes it has been a bit cold . Then we discovered that some of the new windows hadn't been mortared in and found a puddle of water inside yesterday!! Last time we did building work I said never again as its never straightforward oh well onwards and upwards. At least they have turned up now to make it watertight .

Trumpetboysmum · 11/12/2017 11:01

Fingers crossed you get finished Floot it's a lovely feeling when you're done Smile

stringchild · 11/12/2017 11:03

we are 8 weeks in; finally have heating back but no hot water - shame the local swimming pool is closed due to snow so we are shower less......

Thanks, Trumpet. Ds (11) and Dd (14) have had to share a room since August. They have mostly enjoyed it but it's far from ideal and I think they'd like their own space again now ( and I'd like them to go to sleep at night, instead of chatting!)
Carpenter and plumber are here today. Funnily enough, we've just found a puddle by the back door in the new utility room...hope you're warm and dry again soon.
String, that sounds even less fun. How long before you have hot water again? Not a good start to the week. 😢

Trumpetboysmum · 11/12/2017 11:22

Oh no string and Floot yes the mans here now to make it temporarily water tight. We will be having all the fun of new bathrooms ( and heating ) in January!! Must be mad but we just need to get on with it

Floottoot · 11/12/2017 11:54

Just got the email here...unsuccessful.
Not entirely surprised but disappointed for DS. I guess there's always next year.
Fingers crossed for everyone else.x

Nigglenotes · 11/12/2017 12:06

I'm sorry, Floot, hopefully next year.

bassclef · 11/12/2017 12:10

Really sorry to hear that.

Trumpetboysmum · 11/12/2017 12:13

Oh I'm sorry Floot hopefully next year and well done to your ds for trying he's made amazing progress really quickly x

Floottoot · 11/12/2017 12:14

Thanks, Niggle. The audition sheet said he had lots of potential, which is encouraging but maybe they say that to everyone.
It sounds like he didn't do well enough with the sightreading; he's actually quite good at it but lacks confidence and it can go to pot when he's anxious.

Floottoot · 11/12/2017 12:15

Thanks, bass and trumpet. Hope you get good news soon.x

violinistmum · 11/12/2017 12:15

Sorry to hear that Floot. Hopefully next year x
