The new annual thread for those interested and/or auditioning! Ask questions, update your news - lots of nco parents on board and those hoping to be :)

When DD2 did her first audition two years ago, her teacher changed one of her pieces the day before to one she hadn't played for about 6 months. Luckily it didn't throw her as she didn't really have a clue about what the audition meant.

Wafflenose · 14/10/2017 16:40

Two years ago, Goo changed with 40 hours to spare, to something she hadn't played for over a year. She was between teachers and I just let her get on with it. Big surprise when she got in. Her current pieces are both at the extreme end of grade 8, and she now wants to go down a grade. Fine by me.

Wafflenose · 14/10/2017 17:01

string do you have long to go? Which audition do you think she will do?

Minimusiciansmama · 14/10/2017 18:13

DONE!!!!!!
We made it! And it all seems to have gone well. I am very proud of the little monkey. The steward commented how tiny she looked and that she was doing great practising her prepared sightreading. After her audition, one of the panel came out to us to say how great she had done & to keep up the good work before heading back in. The steward said he'd not come out for anything else that day so I am hoping it was as positive as it feels. We face timed her teacher. We had an early tea in her favourite restaurant. She declared it one of her best days ever. Whatever the outcome, I am taking it as a huge win for that kid.

That's fantastic, Mini! Sounds like the discussion will be if she gets a scholarship rather than if she gets a place! Wink

Doubleup · 14/10/2017 18:33

That's sounding pretty positive either way Mini.

Wafflenose · 14/10/2017 19:02

I agree, Kutik. I think we are very right!

folkmamma · 14/10/2017 21:30

Wowsers! Great feedback! I’ve just finished my usual pre-Regionals bakeathon. Hoping it’s not for the last time 😬

stringchild · 14/10/2017 22:24

well done Mini - what great feedback!

seems everyone is having a great set of auditions :)

Waffle...cello!

Ooh!

Musicdoc · 14/10/2017 23:46

Mini that's amazing... well done!

Doubleup · 15/10/2017 17:31

folkmamma was your bakeathon for South Easterlies? If so, were they the NCO/music ones?

stringchild · 15/10/2017 18:03

Waffle - yes ooh indeed!

OP posts:
folkmamma · 15/10/2017 19:02

Double... they were indeed 😂

Minimusiciansmama · 15/10/2017 20:40

folkmamma they're always fab!

folkmamma · 15/10/2017 20:45

My Mum has printed off enough of those NCO toppers to see us through Mains! I hope she at least gets back in to Regionals so we get to use them up 😂😂😂

Kutik73 · 15/10/2017 20:46

folkmamma, I saw a lovely lady carrying pretty cupcakes there today. I was actually wondering if it could be you!

folkmamma · 15/10/2017 20:49

The funniest thing is I have to go and buy my own cakes back super early in the rehearsal as the chocolate ones are egg free and I make them especially for DD’s BFF who is horribly allergic. But if I don’t get in quick they’re all gone!! I do like to bake.... but seems the only time I ever get round to it these days is the night before Regionals!

Doubleup · 15/10/2017 21:39

I was talking to you today too folkmamma - in fact sitting next to you across the gap. My DD is one of the bassoonists. Smile. As I said to you at the time, the cakes were very tasty. Cake

folkmamma · 15/10/2017 21:47

Haha!! Brilliant! Very nice to meet you in person 😊

folkmamma · 15/10/2017 21:48

We should all get badges made with our alter-egos on 😂

Wafflenose · 15/10/2017 22:57

So much fun! Bet none of you ran up to a random music mum and blurted out a secret though (for any newcomers, I managed to do this at Under 12s in the summer).

Kutik73 · 16/10/2017 00:27

I suppose you can have a good guess apart from violinists (too many!). As soon as I exchanged a few words with Double, I was like, 'Ooooh!', and I was bold enough to ask if she was Double. Later on, on the other thread, it was confirmed that I didn't chat with a 'fake one' like Waffle Grin

Minimusiciansmama · 16/10/2017 05:53

I'm not sure I'm going to bump in to very many of you if she gets in- there's a few going for u10s but I don't think we have anyone else going for Northerlies do we? I would definitely need a cue like waffle's amazing piano shoes.

Also HAPPY BIRTHDAY GOO!!! CakeFlowersStar

stringchild · 16/10/2017 07:17

Hi Mini - IF dd gets in we are thinking of going northerlies after 4yrs of doing London; same travel distance
