You sure the emails aren't for our amusement? I'm very lucky, my parents are all pretty good.

I've managed to stitch myself up with a school assembly next Wednesday. I'm terrified!

lucysmam · 16/02/2017 22:12

My Rainbows parents are good! It's just the Guides ones leave a lot to be desired at the moment.

Fast enough to complain 1st week after Christmas that badges weren't being given out...um no, I need a 2nd signature to order the blummin' things & haven't seen my co-signatory for 3 weeks due to work/no meetings. But when it's the chance to do something...no answer from most.

RiaOverTheRainbow · 16/02/2017 23:08

Ooh good luck Inflagrante!

Becles · 17/02/2017 07:06

Snap!

Sent an email about getting tickets for something and so far 2 parents out of 30 have responded.

abeandhalo · 20/02/2017 20:13

We dug out one of our favourite game at Guides tonight which I'd forgotten about but thought you might like it:

The Speed Dating Game:
-Girls split in to pairs & sit on opposite sides of a long table
-One side of the table are the askers & one side are the answerers
-All the askers have the same list of questions, like what are your top 5 favourite foods, what do you think makes a good friend, what did you do this summer, etc
-The askers ask their first question & the answerers answer, then every 10 seconds the leader shouts CHANGE and the answerers have to move to the next person & answer the next question
-Once they've done that they switch teams so everyone gets a chance to ask / answer
-Then there's a 5 second round with much shorter questions like what did you eat for breakfast, describe yourself in one word, what superpower would you choose, etc.

This is such a good icebreaker game especially if you've got new girls. They love it.

Happy Thinking Day ladies :)

Groovee, did you design the picture yourself? I'm very impressed with it!

Groovee · 22/02/2017 10:01

No got it off one of the Facebook pages x

Right, we're making pancakes over camping stoves and I think we will do a Great Egg Race type challenge too with the Guides for our next meeting.

We should have plenty of junk in the cupboard but has anyone done this/got any ideas? Also if we have less than 4 Guides at the meeting (completely possible given our recent attendance/numbers) should we challenge them to make 2 machines and see which works better? Give them a few eggs and some cloths and see if they can better their own distance? If we have 4 we can have 2 teams.

Happy World Thinking DayGrin

harderandharder2breathe · 22/02/2017 12:52

Happy Thinking Day!

My Brownies had a sleepover in the hall at the weekend, which was fun but exhausting, then church parade in the morning.

InflagranteDelicto · 22/02/2017 18:27

Happy Thinking day!

Was awesome to see all the different uniforms at school drop off this morning. Lovely to go into the other school too, I have 1 girl there, a new, rather clingy one, who was so excited to see me 😁 was veryBlush when a wee one came up to me at the end wearing a girls brigade uniform, in all my terror I hadn't spotted her amongst the red school jumpers! Dd2 went in wearing cub t-shirt, cub necker, brownie leggings and hoodieGrin.

Love the speed dating game, going to try that! Mine like running about games, but I have to watch them, as one of mine has a physical disability, and I don't want to damage her!

rivierliedje · 23/02/2017 08:14

That must have been lovely Inflagrante. I didn't realise wearing uniform to school was a thing on thinking day (Is it for all uniformed youth organisations then, if the girl's brigade was in uniform too). It's lovely though. There's a youth movement day here when everyone wears uniform, but it's not Guide/Scout specific. I think that looks amazing too.
We're on half term this week, so did thinking day a few weeks ago.
Happy thinking day!

RueDeWakening · 23/02/2017 22:25

My SIL has just volunteered to help at her local Brownie unit! :o

Very unexpected news, and very welcome too.

KnickerBockerGlooooory · 23/02/2017 22:55

Ooh I didn't realise there was a GG thread! Please may I lurk Smile

KnickerBockerGlooooory · 23/02/2017 22:56

I help run a Brownie unit bytheway. We've had great fun making pancakes over stoves with 22 girls this week!

Becles · 24/02/2017 07:14

Welcome Knicker!

RueDeWakening · 24/02/2017 10:06

Welcome Knicker! I mostly do Rainbows at the mo, but am about to do my module 1 for Brownies due to a job swap with the Brownie leader to help with her childcare issues.

InflagranteDelicto · 24/02/2017 23:51

It was lovely. I came together with dp, who is a beaver letter, and contracted the schools as a joint enterprise. That school must have invited all uniformed organisations. Saw a pic on my dc's school website, of all the kids in their uniform. Not going to post it, but happy to share privately.

Welcome Knicker😊

Groovee · 28/02/2017 06:56

Well after all the kerfuffle I can say I will never ever organise another trip away for Brownies. The REN and risk assessment have been returned saying that they are not correct 😢

abeandhalo · 28/02/2017 07:03

Sorry to hear that Groovee - don't let it put you off though the girls get so much out of it!

We did a Growing Guiding / Thinking Day 'Grow' activity last night to try & get more members. We stuffed 100x little envelopes with some sunflower seeds & a note from the Guides detailing some of their favourite Guide activities, & we're giving them out in the local primary school, social club & local businesses. We are a small unit naturally but we need about 3-4 more members ideally to make our unit financially viable!

drspouse · 28/02/2017 09:46

Don't let that put you off Groovee, we can help! Is it a day out or an overnight? You don't need a REN for a day out.

Groovee · 28/02/2017 10:16

It's an overnight this coming Saturday. Submitted the REN in January and only got told last night what was wrong and now attempting to find the local commissioner too

OP posts:
drspouse · 28/02/2017 11:55

It really is up to them to tell you if they want changes! Far enough in advance! Grr on your behalf!

I find asking on our County FB page is a good way to find commissioners - someone will know that checks often whereas you chance a non-email-responder if you email.

We only had one Guide turn up for our last meeting. We'd planned joint pancake making with the Brownies followed by the Great Egg Race but one of my Guide Guiders couldn't make it so I'd roped in the Rainbow leader for the Guide but so I sent her, and the one Guide, home. I have a feeling that a couple got confused because of us having our Thinking Day event but all the Brownies managed to come on the right day.

CrystalQueen · 28/02/2017 12:26

We've got Go-for-It planning tonight. I predict that the newest Guides make a proper plan, while the oldest just chat. Then complain bitterly that they're bored for the next few weeks.
