Welcome, everyone. I can't believe we need a new thread already, but I'm delighted that they now seem so popular!

I'm Waffle, I'm a music teacher and I have two daughters - Goo (10) who plays the recorder, flute, piccolo (a bit) and started the piano a month ago, and Rara (8) who isn't as musically inclined but plays the cello and recorder. She is plodding (very) slowly towards Grade 3 on both.

We're going on holiday this weekend, so will have to have a good read when I get back. For now, I'll wind the thread up and let it do its stuff. Grin

I'm back with an update about DD. (End of Year 7, developmental delay / mild learning difficulties, low self-confidence, did Grade 3 flute but we were fairly sure she'd failed it.)

She got a MERIT !!!!!!

Not a big deal for many musicians, but HUGE for her.

drummersmum · 30/06/2016 16:48

thesecond YES!!! Surely after that result you can now correct
low self-confidence

Wafflenose · 30/06/2016 16:59

That's brilliant!! Very well done to her. Incidentally, I teach two friends the flute - they started in year 4, have no learning difficulties and practise a reasonable amount. They will also take grade 3 in year 7 - it's a good level for thus age and should enable them to play in various groups at secondary. Your must have worked so hard. I hope it really boosts her confidence.

Well done second's DD. :)

So many of DS1's friends have some sporting injury or other! I fear (or am glad) that DS1 is like me and would run away from anything coming at us at any speed. Grin

TheSecondOfHerName · 30/06/2016 20:42

Thank you all! Now that she has grade 3 she is eligible to play in the junior orchestra at school, which is an added bonus.

DS2 wants to take his Grade 5 theory in November and his Grade 5 clarinet in December, so I may see some of you on the Autumn Term thread.

onlymusic · 30/06/2016 21:46

SuspendedinGaffa thank you for your wishes! Flowers

Greenleave · 30/06/2016 23:01

TheSecondOfHerName: wow, many congrats.
Prada: oh dear, hope she is ok and can still have a little practice everyday the next two weeks

Musicmom1 · 01/07/2016 05:49

Second - well done to DD😀

Prada - are what a pity - hope I quick recovery! How many scho, airship udition S do you have planned? Think DD will be trying for three or four......dreading the theory papers! As has been no where near it since her theory exam.....

So am thinking cornet..?

Pradaqueen · 01/07/2016 06:26

Thanks all , music auditions depend upon passing the academic tests first, but yes 3/4 likely. A lot of work but some awards can last the full 7 yrs so worth it, not to mention she is keen to be a music scholar. Hopefully she'll pass the piano 18/19th Hmm

Second what a fantastic result for DD! I love a happy ending - well done to her! Cake
Green so pleased to see you on here again - don't leave us.
Prada - wishing DD a rapid recovery and hope she is OK.
Two concerts for us tomorrow afternoon/evening. rather expensive but a good cause (local music hub).
Musicmom Cornet sounds like a great idea! You'll be in a band in no time!

Huge well done to second's DD! Flowers
DD is looking to take her G5 theory in December and her Grade 6 at some point early next year, but I think her confidence will need work before then after her G5 exam
