Welcome, everyone. I can't believe we need a new thread already, but I'm delighted that they now seem so popular!

I'm Waffle, I'm a music teacher and I have two daughters - Goo (10) who plays the recorder, flute, piccolo (a bit) and started the piano a month ago, and Rara (8) who isn't as musically inclined but plays the cello and recorder. She is plodding (very) slowly towards Grade 3 on both.

We're going on holiday this weekend, so will have to have a good read when I get back. For now, I'll wind the thread up and let it do its stuff. Grin

We have been preparing for piano grade 4 for sometime and planned to do it next March, but looks like we may do it this November instead, though I am still not sure. She can certainly play pieces and scales, but frankly speaking I don't think she is anywhere near grade 4 level at piano, more like confident grade 2.5 Grin. Ah... the downside of starting too early....
I was also inspired by your dd's theory success and planning to take it VERY seriously now :)

Greenleave · 25/06/2016 12:51

I think I am out as something I mentioned here only never in the real life was mentioned by someone who is a mumsnet lover(I didnt even mean her in my post) and was using it in our argument. Its so unfair when you are in the light, honest and sharing and sharing even more than you would in real life and people who read only and benefit from the sharing only. I had a fun time here with you all and I have been benefiting from this thread enormously. I am sure you all have a painful time reading my broken England. I will come back when there is result for her recent exams

Greenleave · 25/06/2016 12:52

I meant broken English earlier!

drummersmum · 25/06/2016 18:06

Lol Green I can't help noticing how timely your "broken England" mistype is. This is truly what we call "a Freudian slip"!!

LooseAtTheSeams · 26/06/2016 08:03

Drummers - Many a true word!
By the way, Green, I Love your posts and look forward to hearing more about MiniGreen. Good luck with the results, hopefully they'll come soon.
Yesterday was fun as we just about managed to dodge the showers to hear the local community band in the park. Next Saturday, DCs are playing in two different concerts and it will be interesting to see DS1 as well as hear him. He starts off in the senior percussion band, then takes the bass drum to play with intermediate band and then switches to bass guitar!

onlymusic · 26/06/2016 10:00

Green I love your posts too! Your dd sounds so much like mine!
Good luck with the concerts Loose!
It feels sooo good now when exam is over :) This is her 7th exam but first one I took so seriously :)

TheSecondOfHerName · 26/06/2016 13:54

Sitting in the exam venue now while DD does her G3 flute exam. I posted about her a few weeks ago (end of Year 7 exhaustion).

She got back late Friday evening from a residential activity week with the school, and was too shattered yesterday to do much practice. Her scales and arpeggios were weak even before the week-of-no-practice.

To add to my joy, I can hear every mistake she is making.

Oh well, at least this will be a dry run for when she takes it again next term. Sad

ealingwestmum · 26/06/2016 14:33

Flowers to you The Second for your DD's year end tiredness and the fact that you can here through the walls just...hope it's not as bad as you think and she gets to move on without a retake.

ealingwestmum · 26/06/2016 15:24

Hear not here. Love spell check's intuitive ways Confused

TheSecondOfHerName · 26/06/2016 16:25

Thank you. DD managed to get as far as the car before she burst into tears. She's now in her pyjamas having a sofa/duvet time. At least it's with Trinity, so we won't have to wait too long before we hear.

Wafflenose · 26/06/2016 19:04

I hope you hear in the next couple of days, and that all is well. Weak scales don't usually result in a fail. I once had a girl fail three sections (I didn't want her entered, but was overruled - long story) and pass the exam overall.

TheSecondOfHerName · 26/06/2016 20:15

Thank you Wafflenose that's encouraging.

drummersmum · 26/06/2016 20:40

TheSecond I think the tears are worst for a parent than a bad result Sad but not always indicative of it! I hope you all have good news soon.

Fleurdelise · 26/06/2016 21:40

Hello all! What did I miss?

musicmom I am sure I congratulated you on the JD but maybe I dreamt about it! Congrats!

Nothing amazingly new here, discussed grade 1 clarinet with Dd's teacher, the plan is to start the pieces around September, learn them, put them away and move on then brining them back a few weeks before the exam. She said by then she'll be on her way to grade 2 but she will feel like she achieved something. I agree it was a good idea.

So it looks like grade 1 clarinet next term.

DD also started grade 5 scales, the good news is that only a couple of them are new, the rest just need a refresher, started the scale jar tonight. Her teacher also wants to start preparing her for a local festival next year that you need to be grade 6 piano at least so we'll start looking into that.

Other than that I am still shocked with the events in the last few days.

Green it doesn't matter you were outed, you haven't said anything out of normal.

Greenleave · 26/06/2016 22:24

I mentioned about the recent fb incidence where I posted about my daughter violin test and her theory lesson. Only in here I mentioned that its hard to handle real life jealousy from friends. Anyway, I am now being watched by many( and I think its unkind reading it here and using it in our argument). In real life I only have time to breath and in here I have been sharing and chatting way too much than I would. Its one of the thing with public forum where anyone in the dark can read and see us

Wafflenose · 26/06/2016 22:26

Loads of people here know who I am in real life. I don't care - I never say anything private or controversial.

OP posts:
Fleurdelise · 26/06/2016 23:02

Green just make sure you never write here anything you wouldn't be able to repeat in real life and you're sorted.

Even when I wrote about my incident with the competitive parent, I wouldn't tell them that to their face on my initiative but if they read it here and mention it to me I wouldn't have a problem to confirm it was me and what I wrote is how I felt about their behaviour.

raspberryrippleicecream · 26/06/2016 23:22

Music mom congrats. And well done Goo on an amazing result
And well done to everything I've probably missed!

We've just had a tiring but lovely weekend. DS2 competed in a Young Musician competition on Saturday and finished second, very happy with result as it was a very high standard. Then today he had a paid 'gig' singing in Elijah, (Youth and a couple of quartets). Has been a long day with the rehearsal (plus he still had Cathedral Eucharist this morning).

LooseAtTheSeams · 26/06/2016 23:43

Raspberry what a lovely weekend! Well done to DS2!
TheSecond hope DD is feeling better and fingers crossed! exams are much too stressful for us as well as our DCs! Thank goodness the summer holidays aren't too far away...

onlymusic · 27/06/2016 09:11

Green, unfortunately it is a problem with public forums, I also don't want to be recognised even though I am trying not to write anything I could repeat in real life. I suppose the biggest giveaway is the child's age/instrument/grade but with this information you can always say - no, it is definitely someone else and these details are just coincidence Grin. I do have very specific experience that may be useful to some people but unfortunately I cannot share it for the fear of being recognised ;) I will pm you later as there is something I would like to tell you but unfortunately cannot do it here ;)

onlymusic · 27/06/2016 09:12

raspberryrippleicecream well done to your ds!

Wafflenose · 27/06/2016 09:13

raspberry well done to him, that's brilliant!

OP posts:
Pradaqueen · 27/06/2016 09:37

Well done raspberry!

Musicmom1 · 27/06/2016 10:05

Well done Raspberyy, and Good luck to all awaiting results. Am still catching up so sorry if I missed any

Green - that is so sad, please don't leave the thread - it will pass.

Thank you all for dd's'well dones' - I was teasing you all a little 😀 But I think Waffle is going to have to open a summer holiday thread soon!

So music lessons finished until late sept - ha, imagine what damage to great music we can do in nearly three months!

Am also determined to take up an instrument.....I want something I can play in low level adult community groups in a couple of years (hopefully!). And that DD won't steal (as per my fleeting encounter with the Sax)....ideas? Please remember I have no music skill at all!

drummersmum · 27/06/2016 10:23

green anyone who knows me or DS in real life and reads all my posts will know who I am , but do I want to sacrifice being part of a friendly supportive forum I enjoy? I do not! So be it I say.
