Welcome, everyone. I can't believe we need a new thread already, but I'm delighted that they now seem so popular!

I'm Waffle, I'm a music teacher and I have two daughters - Goo (10) who plays the recorder, flute, piccolo (a bit) and started the piano a month ago, and Rara (8) who isn't as musically inclined but plays the cello and recorder. She is plodding (very) slowly towards Grade 3 on both.

We're going on holiday this weekend, so will have to have a good read when I get back. For now, I'll wind the thread up and let it do its stuff. Grin

drummers at least your DS wasn't embarrassed about receiving the award, mine would have been like "it is like not cool like mum". Like. Well done to him!

And a very well done to Goo! And now relax...

drummersmum · 23/06/2016 17:20

Lol Fleur no he's always chuffed about awards. It's just their phone manner, never what you expect...

Mistigri · 23/06/2016 17:56

Soooo .... We have a piano!!! Popped into the local piano shop in the way home from DD's lesson and they had several used pianos in very good condition. DD spent about an hour playing them all, and chose a Yamaha that feels very like the Yamaha grand she plays in her lessons. It's being delivered tomorrow because the piano shop people are shutting up shop and going away on holiday on Saturday. So tomorrow morning I will have to do some serious furniture removal to find room for it in DD's bedroom (which is on the ground floor).

Small world round here - the shop owners have known DD's teacher since she was young and we got a decent discount as a result ;)

drummersmum and waffle - well done to your DC! You'll be glad when the holidays arrive waffle.

Oh and DD played her big guitar concert on Tuesday in front of several hundred people (main town square with restaurants all around). She played pretty flawlessly and the sound was great. Sadly my video camera crashed after one song, and then after I rebooted it something went wrong with the sound recording, I'm going to see if I can rescue it by removing the sound track and treating it using sound editing software (ive used audacity for this in the past but not sure it will work on this occasion).

lastminute1 · 23/06/2016 18:20

mistigiri great news ! Yay concert and yay new piano!

Wafflenose · 23/06/2016 18:28

Oh wow, I hope your DD really enjoys the new piano! What wonderful news!

I am hoping I have good news to add tonight or tomorrow...

This is fantastic mistigiri . Bravo for piano acquisition. And your DD is a star.

Pradaqueen · 23/06/2016 19:58

Congratulations to misti, waffle and drummers mum! Having an epic journey here in London. The weather's been biblical!!

LooseAtTheSeams · 23/06/2016 20:15

Mistigri how lovely that you've got the piano! And I'm seriously impressed about DD's concert - well done to her!
Rain certainly has been epic in London. dS1 was sent home from school early after the playing field flooded and the water seeped into the sports hall! some of the kids who commute had a really horrible journey to school, unlike DS1 who has a 10 minute walk. Hope you've got home OK Prada!

Mistigri · 23/06/2016 20:34

We don't quite have the piano yet - it arrives tomorrow. Dd won't be here as she is going away for the weekend with a group of friends, it'll be waiting for her when she gets back on Sunday.

I've seen the pictures of flooding in London, it looks awful. We have proper South of France weather today for the first time this year - sunny and 31C. Fine if you're on the beach, not such fun when you are working or running around!

Pradaqueen · 23/06/2016 21:01

Just home. Epic journey. It would appear that no infrastructure in or around London can cope with a bit of rain. Fgs!!

Wafflenose · 23/06/2016 21:23

Flute teacher just rang - she is married to the Trinity area rep, so they were handed the results at the end of the day. Very convenient for us! Anyway, Goo got a surprise distinction - 93%, with full marks for Chanson de Matin. She is over the moon! DH says, "Her teacher will be suggesting Grade 7 next term!" to which I replied "NO!!!!" I have refused to nag her about practice, and and she has really been quite naughty about it, running through the pieces and scales 2-3 times a week under sufferance. Maybe less is more! Anyway, I'm sure she'll sort herself out once there's something new and fun to work on.

drummersmum well done to your ds, you must be very proud!
Wafflenose, my bet for Goo goes to distinction or merit!
Mistigri, I am impressed with your decision to buy piano and with dd's big concert!
Fleurdelise - I love your username!

Dd's exam is tomorrow (finally!), cannot help but feel very nervous even though I don't really care about result this time :) She is excited and looking forward to the exam Shock

drummersmum · 23/06/2016 21:28

waffle after all the drama! Congratulations!

onlymusic · 23/06/2016 21:29

Ha-ha, whilst I struggled wit posting my message, Goo's results are here! Congratulation Flowers and well done me for the right guessing Grin

drummersmum · 23/06/2016 21:29

Good luck only!

onlymusic · 23/06/2016 21:30

Gah, I wish the teacher/music service would tell us when DD's grade 1 clarinet exam is - all we know so far is "week commencing 18th July". Which I think is outside the usual times, so is it a special arrangement or something?

I also wish I knew more about how this stuff worked! And that she'd do a bit of practice, every now and then...

Yes, that sounds like a special visit. It could be that they don't know the exact details yet, but they should do within the week. I'd be on their case!

Well done Goo! And Waffle....

CoteDAzur · 23/06/2016 21:49

Congratulations to your DDs, Waffle & Mistigri Smile

Mistigri - So we are neighbors? It was very hot here today, too. I went to the beach in the afternoon, thinking I'd tan a bit but managed less than an hour under the sun. It was way too hot!

Congrats for the piano, too. I'm sure your DD is over the moon Smile

exampanic · 23/06/2016 21:58

Wow to goo. And nice to have a piano in the house!
