Hi, have just joined here so hope I am posting in the correct place. Just wondering if anyone here has a child auditioning for NYMT or similar groups this year.
My DD (age 11 ) is auditioning next sunday

It was utterly lovely. Such a buzz about the whole company and the way they go about things. I do think the two Jeremys deserve a knighthood! Such a wealth of talent onstage, and so great for the younger ones to see and hear where it can all lead.
Aplo I think I spotted your DD - she had a solo bit at one point, didn't she? And I think I saw you with her at pick-up but it was so manic at stage door and we were in a rush to get a train so I didn't say hi. Hope you've made it back safely?
Mine was the smallest boy in Boat. He was quite difficult to spot, although he did sing one line while they were still sitting with another smallish boy, but he was so happy to see all his Boaties again! Unfortunately he can't do the Christmas concert as he's in panto, but he'll be back to audition again in 2017. Fingers very firmly crossed, as there are no guarantees... The good news for him is that they're doing a Boat original cast recording, which means he gets to see them all again in February and will have a permanent keepsake of the show. He says NYMT has been the best thing he's ever done. So glad your DD enjoyed it too! Will hope to see you/your DD somewhere in the process next year!

That's fantastic news about the Boat recording and it will really cement the memory for him!
My dd had a solo in 13 and was also one of the Boylan sisters in Annie (in the very ott blonde wig!)
We have just arrived home here and she is shattered now but still on a high from it all. Thankfully for us this week is half term so she has time to recover, I really felt sorry for those who had school this morning after the show!
We have booked her audition for January already (as Ryanair had a sale so we grabbed the cheap flights!) so hopefully all going well for all we will see you next year!

Yes it was definitely your DD I spotted. She's in one of the pics in this article too I think. (Hope that doesn't identify her, it shouldn't do as there are lots of kids!) www.broadwayworld.com/westend/article/Photo-Flash-Stars-Celebrate-40-Years-of-National-Youth-Music-Theatre-at-the-Adelphi-20161031
It's not half term here. DS got up at 8.20 this morning having got to bed at 1 am, and is still awake now because of Halloween over excitement. Tomorrow could be painful! DS is booked in for a Feb audition next year but maybe (with luck) their paths might cross at a recall (here's hoping).

Yes you have her spotted alright! One of my former students was assistant choreographer last night and took loads of rehearsal pictures so we have some brilliant shots of her!
I will ask him if he has any of the boat kids!
Fingers crossed we will see you at recalls in Feb!

It was fabulous! I sat with my student's parents, brother and girlfriend (I teach the brother and the girlfriend too) and we all really enjoyed it. Monday morning was bloody difficult though - didn't get home til 1am. My student was one of the tallest. Dark hair. He had a few bits here and there and was Nathan Detroit (so speaking not singing solo) in Sit Down You're a Rocking The Boat.

He's been asked about the Christmas concert too but can't do it - he's busy now with A Levels, drama school auditions and playing the lead in the school show... he's definitely auditioning for next year's season though.

My DDs are now talking about auditioning. They're only 10 (twins) but have lovely voices and LOVE drama.

Sorry to go off on a tangent, but EvilTwins are your girls identical? If so have you seen Jo Hawes' current casting page? (Scroll down) She has a pretty specific requirement!

Thanks for that Biscuit. Yes, they are identical (though as their mum it's tricky to know if they are "absolutely" identical - obviously I think they look totally different) I'll look into it.

Just thought I'd resurrect this thread. Aplo, when is your DD auditioning? Good luck to her! EvilTwins, what about your student and your twins? Anyone else's DC auditioning? DS is due to go in Feb.

It's hard to believe we are back here already! We are heading over this weekend, Dd is auditioning on Sunday along with another student of mine. Really looking forward to the weekend - we are not back to school here until next week so it's a last weekend of the holidays feeling. Not looking forward to the waiting to hear how she did part of it all though.
Dd did the Christmas Concert with them on Dec 17th and it was a gorgeous night, almost all ensemble singing and the show was stolen by the amazing brass players in the orchestra, it was a really lovely way to mark the start of the Christmas holidays.

Good luck to all auditioning this year- hopefully we can support each other along the way here- the audition process is equally hard on the parents I think!

I heard the Christmas concert was lovely. DS has been in panto (and still hasn't finished) so he couldn't do it. But he would so adore another chance at NYMT this year... Am trying to manage expectations whilst not appearing to not have faith in him - it's a tricky balance, I'm finding! Agreed, difficult process for parents too. But at least they tend to hear quite quickly whether they are through to recalls so there isn't too much of an agonising wait. Really hope all goes well for your DD and your student on Sunday. Keep us posted (not about the content of the audition, of course - just about how your DD gets on).

My twins have decided not to go for it this year, which I think is probably a good move - they're only 10 and I think DTD1 in particular might find it a bit scary.

My lovely student is auditioning this weekend in Bristol. Not sure if it's Saturday or Sunday but we've spent time on his song in the last couple of days. He would love to get into Sunday.

There's no rush, is there? Maybe your DDs will feel like it in a year or two. Hope it all goes very well for your student. I think Sunday will be amazing.

You're still here! (Though I've had a name change since last year) DD is trying to decide whether to audition or not this year. She's in a couple of local productions at the moment, one of which has an all day rehearsal on the day of the local NYMT auditions so she's undecided.

Great to hear that those who took part last year all had such a good time :)

I checke with my student. He's auditioning tomorrow. He's doing a much better song this year and we've worked on it a LOT so I'm hoping it gets him a recall.

Who were you before Evergreen, or would you rather not say? Are there any other auditions your DD could get to if not the local ones? I know it depend where you live; we are lucky and have an audition in our home city, but could get to 2 or 3 others in a couple of hours. I would highly, highly recommend NYMT.

Let us know how he gets on EvilTwins! From memory he should know by the end of next week...

Just packing our bags here as we head to London tomorrow even though the audition isn't until Sunday. Best of luck to your student Eviltwins, I think when they have had a taste of what NYMT is it makes them want it all the more. Song choices this year involved some very complex overthinking with both my Dd and my student- my overriding part was that they just sounded their best- hopefully we have managed the right choices!!
Will let you all know how it goes- hopefully they won't have too long a wait to hear from this round - I know last year they let people know mostly within the week.

Hope you've arrived safely. Are you going to a show tonight, or getting an early night?

Report
Evergreen777 · 07/01/2017 18:08

My DD was the one who got a recall, but didn't do it as it was for the one show she couldn't do the dates of evergreen. There are other locations within an hour or two (though possibly today... Hmm) but she's got rehearsals just about every Sunday and some Saturdays the next few weeks - one show is on in a couple of weeks and the other's just starting up so there's an overlap. So NYMT auditions couldn't have come at a worse time really. It may have to wait til next year I think, unless she thinks she can get out of the rehearsal..... Good luck to all of your DCs auditioning this year though.

I understood you Evergreen. It's a shame if your DD can't get there, especially after getting a recall last year. Could she negotiate to miss one of the rehearsals for the show that's just starting up? Or is she happy to wait?

Dd came out beaming today, there were lots of familiar faces there so she felt at home almost straight away which I think really helped compared to last year. We had a coffee (juice for Dd) around the corner from the school before and she already started to meet friends from last year which completely relaxed her about it all when she saw that some of the much older auditionees were as nervous as her.
Stuart Matthew Price auditioned them for the singing and she was more than slightly star struck and he told her after she sang that he was impressed with her song choice and her singing - so she was delighted with that. The drama for her was a mixture of improv and scenes from Honk but my student who is a bit older only had improv and the dance was apparently "fast and fun".
Now the wait begins and the trying to forget about it all and not hope too much!
Best of Luck to all the rest and evergreen hope you find a date that works (and that the shows go well!)

Thank you for the update. That all sounds like fun, and I'm glad your DD felt it had gone well. Fingers crossed for positive recall news in a few days. DS has just finished in panto, so now he needs to choose a song for his NYMT audition and crack on!

I won't see my student today as he's at a RADA audition but I'll catch up with him tomorrow and report back.
