Hi, have just joined here so hope I am posting in the correct place. Just wondering if anyone here has a child auditioning for NYMT or similar groups this year.
My DD (age 11 ) is auditioning next sunday

He was happy with his tap-he's certainly not amazing but has done lessons for a couple of years so wasn't horrified-but said they had a choice of time steps and he went for the easier one! Ditto no idea how it went especially after the whole ditching of the prepared part thing! Seems their group at least all had an equal crack of the whip as it were-doesn't sound like anyone got to sing a whole song solo...

Dancingdaughters · 22/02/2017 16:46

Lol. She had a bash at the harder one. She didn't seem to think that being able to do the tap was any measure of whether you would be picked or not. She said they also asked if they could play the guitar. And not many could. Although one girl had brought her guitar with her and stopped behind to play it for them.
She got to sing a bit and read some lines but she didn't feel that went well as they had to be quite camp and she struggled. Lol.

The rumour mill says the emails have started. It might be tonight after all. Good luck to all the DC .

aplo · 22/02/2017 19:37

Oh no, good luck all!! We had decided here that it probably wasn't happening today!!

Oh gosh. I'm not liking this waiting now

Biscuitsneeded · 22/02/2017 19:45

Hope I haven't got the wrong end of the stick. Don't think I have though...

aplo · 22/02/2017 19:51

I feel sick. Not telling DS anything is happening yet.

Biscuitsneeded · 22/02/2017 19:55

Were the 2 you know of good or bad news aplo? I hope it's good for everyone our kids know...

Dancingdaughters · 22/02/2017 19:56

Oh my. Yes were they yes or no's?

aplo · 22/02/2017 20:00

You know a lot of people!!

EvilTwins · 22/02/2017 20:09

My student got a no. Said that no one he knows from the gala got anything.

aplo · 22/02/2017 20:18

Sorry to hear that Evil.

Most of what I'm hearing is from my student who is chatting online with her gala friends.
One of my former students didn't get it either.

Sorry EvilTwins. You sound like such a dedicated and kind teacher. I hope your student will not be too disappointed.

EvilTwins · 22/02/2017 20:34

He says he's ok. The fact that none of his friends from the gala got in at all is helping, oddly enough.

EvilTwins · 22/02/2017 20:35

It's weird though - he got a second round audition for Musical Theatre at Central and is waiting on a date for a final round audition for LIPA so he's obviously pretty good!

aplo · 22/02/2017 20:41

Central and Lipa mean he must be brilliant!! Best of luck to him with them!

Smile He's a good lad. He deals well with rejection - very philosophical. I always tell my students that if you feel you did the best you could and that you were as well prepared as possible, then often there are things beyond your control making the decisions. In this case, not fitting a role. It's hard for them though. I've got 5 yr 13 students going through it at the moment. Really tough.
Dancingdaughters · 22/02/2017 21:09

Gosh it must be like having 5 kids of your own going through it!

EvilTwins · 22/02/2017 21:19

Yep... one of them lost his mum very suddenly just before Christmas too so that makes it doubly hard.

It's part of the job I guess. I had three going through it last year. Five this year. I've taught them since they were 11 - it's impossible not to get tied up in it - so many hopes and dreams!

Dancingdaughters · 22/02/2017 21:24

Oh gosh. Poor thing. Cant imagine my dd doing all this on her own x

Dancingdaughters · 22/02/2017 21:32

Anyone else heard anything?

Biscuitsneeded · 22/02/2017 21:34

Some friends of DS have had yeses for Honk. Nothing here still..
