Does anybody here belong to David Lloyd Raynes Park?

... and would you be prepared to share how much your membership is costing you?

I'm an off-peak member (not tennis) and my membership has increased almost 50% over the last 2 years, and they're now telling me that there's only one type of membership - Diamond.

I'm not entirely sure that I believe them, given that they never publish rates online.

So if anyone is prepared to share theirs with me, please would you send me a PM?

Bump?

I am not a member but know the clubs in tye area well. All the refurbs have pushes the price up a lot. It's outrageous but true. I know a.lot of.people who are being charged a lot more for clubs like Raynes park or epsom

BIWI · 02/11/2024 13:55

Thanks @MsMarch - I'm well aware of the refurb, but that was being completed just as I joined.

The 'reason' they gave me for the increase was that memberships are based on the rate of inflation at a specific time of year. (Which sounds like complete bollocks to me!)

Anyway. Wondered if any of the Saturday afternoon crowd are DLL members?

I'm paying £229 per month. That's with tennis membership and peak times.

DanielaDressen · 02/11/2024 14:01

There’s some unofficial DL members fb groups if you’re on fb. I wouldn’t be happy about being pushed into diamond membership

CharlieDickens · 02/11/2024 14:01

I was a member until 2 years ago. I think my membership was £120/mth and they were about to put it up again (I think it was going to go up to £150). For that price I wanted to be able to walk in and not pay for anything. I cancelled my membership then.

BIWI · 02/11/2024 14:09

If there is only one kind of membership, then surely that would mean I can go any time, not just off peak?

I suppose I could always try and see what happens!

Do you have a link to any FB groups @DanielaDressen?

If you try and join online using a new email address the prices should come up.

BIWI · 02/11/2024 14:14

Interesting. I just went on to the website, and it's still giving four types of membership. So being told it's all only Diamond membership is evidently not true.

I asked about David Lloyd on my local Facebook when I was looking for a gym. A people said that the memberships were changing to just one. I wasn’t prepared to pay the £250 odd it would have cost me. So I went to another one in my area which does the same thing and is more of a community ( already been for a quiz night there so much fun ) and this one is only £125 per couple and it is lovely.

Kiitos · 02/11/2024 14:19

As a company they’re extremely shifty about pricing. I don’t get why they can’t just publish them online, the fact that they don’t tells me some people are being ripped off more than others. I also strongly object to the fact that a single membership is much more expensive than 50% of a couples membership - I honestly can’t understand why - 2 people take up 2 spaces in a gym whether they are a couple or not.
If I was you I’d be looking into other gyms if there are any nearby.

david Lloyd community is a good one

mondaytosunday · 02/11/2024 16:06

My friend who has been member for decades left it about 18 months ago as couples membership was over £250/month.

I agree. Sounds like bollocks. So frustrating. I am convinced that eventually their habit of passing members off will eventually come.back to bite them.

Wimbledonmum1985 · 02/11/2024 23:06

Yes I have heard it’s at least £200 per month which is just crazy. Far better options around. Ridiculous money.

MoveOnTheCards · 02/11/2024 23:10

Moons ago I worked as part of their press office and on the basis of trying to manage the decidedly grey messaging around membership I would never sign-up with them.

You should screenshot and send to them...their sakes teams are very.... misleading..sometimes?!

BIWI · 03/11/2024 10:18

Thanks for the links @DanielaDressen - membership pending approval!

I'm annoyed about this, not so much about the actual cost (although it's very/too high), but because before I made the decision to re-join, I visited all the other gyms in the area, and ultimately it was this one that ticked all the right boxes.

We eventually left (hence no.up to.date info) but I actually considered contacting Which at one point to see if they would investigate DL' pricing practices. Ours almost doubled over a period of 3 years.

BIWI · 03/11/2024 15:15

I joined in Dec '22 - annual fee (because I paid the whole year upfront):

  • £1,070
  • Dec '23 - £1,257
  • Proposed annual fee Dec '24 £1,431

So almost a 50% increase Shock

Edit - I've worked it out, and it's actually a 34% increase. Not quite as bad, but still a huge increase in the two years.

OP posts:
Svalberg · 03/11/2024 16:17

£306 per month for 2 as gym & spa members, anytime.

And we both have to be gym members or tennis members - not 1 gym & 1 tennis which is infuriating

Members as it's the only one that works for both of us and it has an outdoor pool and spa

Have they upgraded to a “super tier” in that time, aka had a refurbishment and new spa?

BIWI · 03/11/2024 17:10

The refurb was being completed just as I joined, along with the addition of the spa.

Yeah I bet they whacked the annual price up at the next opportunity to pay for it. Think they just review prices once a year.

Orangeaperitif · 03/11/2024 19:25

Yes, £200 or more, I have a sneaky feeling they make up different prices all the time. We had also been told there is only a Platinum membership.

@Wimbledonmum1985, interested if you could share the better options
