if you’re a regular on Strava and you seen someone who never posts start posting a 1 mile run every day, what would you think?

I’ll post the context after (if anyone cares 🤣) but I’m intrigued to see answers first

They are trying to get fit and starting off slow...

W0rkerBee · 02/05/2024 21:39

Well, not much. I'm on strava. A mile is not much. I'd think, good start. Build the habit.

shoppingshamed · 02/05/2024 21:39

I'm not a user but have thought about stating it, why would it show up users who don't run? Do you mean that there some way to monitor folk who aren't active runners and then get notified when they start running?

Soigneur · 02/05/2024 21:40

They’re starting couch25k?

McFuckers · 02/05/2024 21:40

I don't think I'd give it a moment's thought, people upload all sorts of random stuff to Strava

SuncreamAndIceCream · 02/05/2024 21:41

Yeah I'd think they were trying to build fitness & starting sensibly & getting into the habit of daily exercise

Soigneur · 02/05/2024 21:42

Yeah, it pops up “Bingo Woksmuggler has posted their first activity in a while, give them kudos!”

SublimeLemonHead · 02/05/2024 21:43

Either just starting to build fitness slowly or I'd maybe wonder if they'd just got a dog (and breaking them in slowly).

BovineUniversity · 02/05/2024 21:43

Maybe you're starting a run streak?

You follow ppl and their activities show up on your feed. If they don't do anything they don't appear. If they do something after a long break Strava will pop up with a notification on the activity that says something like "XYZ is back - give some kudos!"

RenoDakota · 02/05/2024 21:44

I have seen people doing challenges called RED (run every day) month name. I would assume it is that.

shoppingshamed · 02/05/2024 21:44

Soigneur · 02/05/2024 21:42

Thank you for explaining, I wouldn't want randoms to be notified about my exercise so sounds like it's not an app for me

FlameTulip · 02/05/2024 21:46

Agree with @RenoDakota, this sounds like a challenge of some kind - run a mile a day for a month.

AltitudeCheck · 02/05/2024 21:46

Are they doing some kind of 'mile a day in May' challenge thing? Someone near me posted they were doing a daily walk 'for Alzheimers' but then clarified that they weren't bothering to register or collec money, just doing it get outside more!! Bonkers! 😆

Birmingbacon · 02/05/2024 21:46

@shoppingshamed no no that’s only shown to your friends who you’ve added!!

its a social thing so most people follow their friends. But you can set your profile to private and accept nobody if you want. It’s a great app

QueSyrahSyrah · 02/05/2024 21:47

@shoppingshamed It would only notify people who follow you, and you can fully control whether your activity is seen by everyone, only your followers, or only you with various privacy settings.

mummymummymummummum · 02/05/2024 21:48

That they’d changed their settings. I have friends who choose to hide activities from their feeds, then ‘reappear’.

It’s not randoms, it’s people that are following you and that you have approved. Like any other social media platform.

florenceandthemac · 02/05/2024 21:56

That they're doing a daily mile

Treesaregreen1 · 02/05/2024 21:56

Ok thank you for responses.

im quite unfit and really lack consistency & discipline while trying to lose weight and recently stopping smoking. I thought I would run/walk a mike a day and see how I got on. To my surprise I was able to run the full mile but my god I nearly died. Anyway, I have persevered with it. I have no desire to run longer distances and am still slow (10.30min/mile) but I actually feel a bit stupid posting it on Strava. Its such a minuscule distance in comparison to what I see on there and I started thinking people must be thinking why does she bother with / post that

TheOneWithUnagi · 02/05/2024 22:01

If you're interested in running further (and not feeling like you're going to die 😅) couch to 5k is a great programme

OpusGiemuJavlo · 02/05/2024 22:04

People are really a lot less obsessed with you than you think

No one will care

soupmaker · 02/05/2024 22:09

I would absolutely not care. I use Strava for bikes rides with the kids, hill hikes, and runs. I did a challenge one January and often went out and ran a mile and half. Enjoy your short runs, they all count.

BuddhaAtSea · 02/05/2024 22:14

You’ll find that absolutely nobody cares. But. You can set your privacy in such a way that the posts are only visible to you. It’s easy.
Good luck with your running, we all started somewhere:) keep going!

Don’t have any followers and set your account to private. Then the info is there just for you. This is what I do
