1.8x would be interesting!

@sloooooopjonb When I was a more serious runner I used to do alternate days with CG workouts, I did full body 3 days a week. Now I do CG upper lower 6 days a week and just do a short 5km or 8km run after the upper body workout, and maybe a long run when I don't lift.

Interesting, maybe I'll just cut back on the longer runs a bit for now until I find a balance. Thank you!

Cherryblossom81 · 02/02/2025 12:08

Thanks @DreadPirateRobots and @samthebordercollie It's encouraging to hear you say that wrist strength will increase over time. It also made me remember that I guess this has actually happened, as my wrists used to feel too weak for 3-5kg weights, but now I'm asking the question about 10kg weights.

BigButtons · 03/02/2025 19:24

Ha
I have finally worked out why my phone cannot upload large threads like this one. This is why I haven’t been posting- because I can’t get it to load!
I went to my settings and changed the talk view to pages rather than the entire thread🤔😂

Lately I've been getting right hip pain on running 😥but it weirdly seems to be a muscular pain? It's worse if I sit still for a bit after the run and rapidly eases with movement. I don't like it though and it's crimping my run style. Anybody got any tips on the why/prevention?

Gobacktotheworld · 06/02/2025 12:07

Running can cause a lot of different hip problems (as with knee) hence conditions called runner's hop and runner's knee. If it's ITBS for example then they'd likely advise stopping running for a while while you rehab. Could be tendinitis, bursitis, sciatica, a fracture, even referred pain from somewhere else. Def worth getting it checked out if you can. I'd personally stop running for a bit though.

I'm kinda bored with Rev (love circuits but miss a good hard weights session) so returning to a mix of the full body split and maybe PE (second half of program)

idkt · 09/02/2025 07:25

Hi all. I've got the CG app and nearly at the end of her ultimate beginner program.
I'm new to all this and really enjoying doing these workouts.
Could anyone advice which program I should start after I've finished the beginner series

AtomicBlondeRose · 09/02/2025 08:42

Iron is a good starter programme as it’s slower paced, very adaptable in terms of the actual weights you use, and lets you focus on good form and getting used to the different exercises. It’s not easy but it is very accessible.

WillowWands · 09/02/2025 08:46

What size weights would I need to start?

RosaRoja · 09/02/2025 15:37

IMO 4kg is plenty.

samthebordercollie · 09/02/2025 15:45

WillowWands · 09/02/2025 08:46

It depends really on you - I started with 4kg and 5kg for over head arm work exercises, and 7,5kg and 10kg for legs and rows. I was new to lifting but very fit cardio wise due to running, cycling, swimming a lot. If you want to start of lighter you can do more reps, if you find the weights to heavy do fewer reps, you don't need to keep up with Caroline.

AtomicBlondeRose · 09/02/2025 15:58

My DP is doing YouTube Iron for the first time, and sometimes joins in my workouts (Rev is a bit of a shock to him 😂). Anyway he mostly uses 4kg and 7kgs. I don’t think he uses a 10 for anything yet but he might do occasionally.

@DreadPirateRobots I've been getting the same issue, also a runner for years. It’s really frustrating, been going on for 4 months now. Let me know if you find anything that helps? I’ve been off running mostly due to the pain in my hip but I’m able to spin and strength train. I had an X-ray but was normal.

DreadPirateRobots · 10/02/2025 06:27

@Stumpedasatree ugh 😥 I should probably get myself a referral to the physio. I don't like not being able to run even if weights and HIIT are fine.

idkt · 16/02/2025 08:15

Can you get the iron series on YouTube?
I'm currently using the app and at the end of ultimate beginner.

I don't really want to be paying the subscription fee of the app if I can get the full series on YouTube

Cherryblossom81 · 16/02/2025 09:18

@idkt I'm probably not the best person to answer, as I've not got the app yet...

The first series I did was Iron on YouTube. (Not sure if this is the same as Iron on the app, but I found it a good first series when I started CG workouts last year.)

The iron series on YouTube is not the same as Iron on the App. Similar format (heavy slow.lifting), same tile but I found Iron on the App a little more varied.

ellebelli · 16/02/2025 18:12

There are literally hundreds of workouts on youtube for free,I am currently working my way through all of her series and standalone workouts before i commit to the app,

BigButtons · 16/02/2025 21:22

@idkt thw sessions and series on the app are completely different to you tube- even if they share the same same names.
imo the app is excellent and well worth the money.
i did all the YouTube ones and they are really good. She has. However, taken it to another level on the app. Her weight choices are different and less likely to cause injury over time.

This!
There is so much on the App now (not just workouts) and as @BigButtons says Caroline really has taken her programming to the next level, drawing on different scientific research and giving us workouts such as the 10 x 10 format, pre and CV post exhaust, clusters etc. I did all the YouTube programs (except Fuel) and loved them but rarely go back to YouTube for any workouts now as there is so much content on the App

Cherryblossom81 · 17/02/2025 21:31

@BigButtons and @samthebordercollie
That's interesting and helpful to hear your feedback on the app. I still have quite a few more programs that I've not completed on YouTube, but would you recommend that I move from YouTube and pay for the app?

Since starting CG workouts last year, I've done 4 or 5 per week every week, so I am willing to part with some money if you recommend the app/think it would be better than continuing on YouTube?

Also, I can't seem to find an answer to what the cost is? I'm sure it must say somewhere, but I can only see how to get the free trial and not the actual cost. Can anyone tell me the cost (in pounds)?

BigButtons · 17/02/2025 22:09

@Cherryblossom81 I can definitely recommend it. It is excellent. Do the free trial. There is SO much on there.
i pay yearly as it works out cheaper. Was about £79. Monthly it comes in at about £9 but could be a bit less

OP posts:
Gobacktotheworld · 17/02/2025 22:15

£80 for a year. Or £10 a month.

I have the app but have been doing YouTube ones this week so it plays on the telly! It's nice to have the choice.

Cherryblossom81 · 18/02/2025 08:43

Thank you @BigButtons and @Gobacktotheworld I'm currently on Day 41 of Epic Heat, so I think I'll finish this program and then move over to the app. (I still can't quite believe this is now such a regular part of my life. I had not ever even touched a dumbbell until April last year!)

AtomicBlondeRose · 18/02/2025 09:07

The app is definitely worth it! I’ve had it since May and just broke the 200 workout barrier. I’ve never done the same workout twice and even between programmes and on holiday have such a wide choice in terms of length, intensity and equipment used. The bodyweight ones are no joke!
