Men in communal showers

ramonaquimby · 07/02/2023 18:33

I swim several times a week. I like the pool. I like the facilities, lanes (mostly!) are self policed by all swimmers.
but why oh why do the men have to give a full rummage around the front of their suits when they shower afterwards. Pull the suit out, hand goes in, and whatever. Some don’t even think to turn around to do this.

So Gross.
anyone else? It happens every single time I swim. Lots of kids rinsing off after lessons. I’d love to be brave enough to say something

Ugh, YANBU. I wouldn't go anywhere that required me to share communal showers with men. Gross, and a safety risk.

ramonaquimby · 07/02/2023 18:38

Yeah. I mean they are rinsing or washing not wanking, but it’s so inappropriate.

Yes its disgusting, I've no idea why they think its ok

gemloving · 07/02/2023 18:41

Are you in the UK?

Eastereggsboxedupready · 07/02/2023 18:44

My adult ds has just text me about men in the men's showers rummaging without trunks on. Yuck.
Rinse off and fucking rummage at home!

MaverickGooseGoose · 07/02/2023 19:06

Urgh. I've never come across this though. My pretty shit local pool has poolside showered for a quick rinse but it also has cubicles if you want a proper wash / use product.

BelperLawnmower · 07/02/2023 19:12

YABU Hmm

ramonaquimby · 07/02/2023 19:32

Yes in U.K.
YABU? Didn’t post there!

BelperLawnmower · 07/02/2023 19:34

Lots of unreasonable people don't Grin

AllThingsServeTheBeam · 07/02/2023 19:37

Rinse yourself off and don't watch?

ramonaquimby · 07/02/2023 19:40

Gawd I’m not watching but thanks for the advice, super helpful

OP posts:
AllThingsServeTheBeam · 07/02/2023 19:41

Well how are you noticing if you're not looking at them?

meetmeatmidnights · 07/02/2023 19:41

I mean, they're showers to wash in. If they're clearly washing / rinsing I don't see the issue?

Sux2buthen · 07/02/2023 19:43

Probably getting chlorine and whatever off their knackers. Maybe stop looking? Grin

Obviously. Where else is there such stupid reactions to somebody having a shower. I find the British prudish attitude embarrassing and totally unnecessary.

Where I live nobody would even consider showering after a swim with a swimsuit on.

ramonaquimby · 07/02/2023 19:54

It’s a crowded communal area for rinsing off after swimming. Open plan. Men openly putting their hands down their swimming trunks to wash or whatever, holding the suit out and sticking hand in. This is so inappropriate in a shared space with kids of all ages.
not a prude
also not British
guess I’m in the minority (at least on this thread 😁) but I remain disgusted 😁

It's unnecessary and unacceptable.

Growlybear83 · 07/02/2023 19:58

So long as the men are keeping their trunks on and not getting their todgers out for a good scrub, what on earth is the problem?

MaryJean87 · 07/02/2023 20:01

They're washing, not wanking and aren't getting their bits out. I don't think it's a big deal.

WhatNoRaisins · 07/02/2023 20:04

It's not something a decent man would do in front of random women if you ask me.

Alfr · 07/02/2023 20:07

If they were standing in the corner dribbling and wanking furiously, I could understand the outrage.
Rinsing chlorine off their bodies, including moving body parts that get in the way of the nooks and crannies - whilst their genitals remain covered...no big deal.

MargaritMargo · 07/02/2023 20:10

Why are they doing it?
Mainly because men have a natural inbuilt sense of entitlement and it wouldn’t even occur to them that people don’t want to see them rummaging in their pants.

Like when young men have their hands down their tracksuit bottoms having a good old scratch and rub when walking around shops / parks / the street etc.

Sorry but majority of men are just minging. Not all of course, but a lot are.

Not even the decency to turn around so not everyone has to witness it? Bork.

LlynTegid · 07/02/2023 20:10

You and anyone else should have the opportunity to shower in a cubicle.

Growlybear83 · 07/02/2023 20:28

In the pool I use there are only two private shower cubicles so there could be a long wait if you wanted to use one. If someone doesn't want to go to work or wherever they are off to next with chlorine on their bodies, how else are they expected to get it off if they don't have a bit of a rummage in their trunks? I often see women washing by putting their hands down the tops of their swimming costumes. I'm completely baffled by some people's views.
