Hi,
I'm planning to start half marathon training in n Jan 1st. Aiming definitely for an event on May 13 but plan designed around a race on 22/4. Just in case.

Anyone want to join me?
I've done several halfs before but not run a good one for a few years.
I'm using the Garmin beginner 3x a week programme.

Anyone want to join me?

Ooh very envious of Geneva. I'd love to do a race abroad at some point. We went to Switzerland last summer, so beautiful and clean.

Good luck all racing this weekend, shame about the cold weather/sleet. Spring is slow to arrive this year.

I broke 10 mins this morning. Felt so happy to get that distance and felt strong. Even picked up the pace for the last 2 miles. Exhausted now though so spent the rest of my day off just sat here drinking tea!

Jumbojem · 03/03/2023 15:52

10 miles not 10 mins, sorry!

Cantdoitallperfectly · 03/03/2023 16:18

Thank you @TheOrigRights for the list.

Good luck to those doing their races this weekend. Enjoy the carb loading and run like the wind! 💪

Cantdoitallperfectly · 03/03/2023 16:20

Well done @Jumbojem i felt great breaking the 10mile barrier, it’s great that you were feeling strong on the last 2 miles. Enjoy your tea and rest!

And good to see some experienced triathletes here as well, I will come back for advice when I have questions. I'm another runner who has swimmer friends who got me into open water swimming. My biking consists of to and from the station so will need to do some hard work there.

I'm very impressed with all you triathletes. I don't think it's my natural home - I've only entered two cycling events in my life. One was 10 miles and I could literally have run it faster - and I'm not the speediest Grin

Best of luck to everyone doing Cambridge tomorrow - looking forward to the post run reports.

15 miles trail run for me today - won't be a speedy one, the route is designed for mud and hills but it's always great fun and I'll have my son for company.

brooksghost · 04/03/2023 16:28

Parkrun consistency award! The last 3 weeks have all been within 5secs of each other. I wasn't expecting to run a PB this morning (my eldest turned 18 yesterday so we ate out and had too much cake) so to be 5 secs down was a nice surprise.

It's been an interesting week; one dreadful run, one good 10miler and a decent parkrun. 23 miles run which is very good for me. 4 weeks to go!

Good luck to everyone tomorrow, I hope everything goes to plan and that you enjoy the run.

chutneypig · 04/03/2023 17:04

That's very impressive @brooksghost. Just goes to show how runs vary.

My trail run went pretty well. I'm rubbish on trail, my ankles are very loose so it takes a lot of concentration. Although I was running with my son we ended up finishing with my daughter and husband too. Which was all very delightful but I'm feeling ever so slightly bitter that not one of them has done over 5k for months and my daughter hasn't even done that since November. All my training in recent months and I was struggling more than they were.

Overall I am pleased with my time and I've learned over the years I can't compare with them, they're all much faster. Plenty of stretching needed tomorrow though!

shamoola · 04/03/2023 17:33

I did parkrun this morning. Glad I did it but it was not pretty! First third good, second third awful as I ground to a virtual holt, final third speedy. Was a good test of mental resilience.

Did come 3rd lady and 1st in age group so must have been doing something right!

theworldhasgoneinsane · 04/03/2023 19:33

@TheOrigRights how are you feeling about tomorrow? I'm mostly nervous about getting there on time and making sure nothing goes wrong...oh and not freezing before I run as the weather is awful!

theworldhasgoneinsane · 04/03/2023 19:34

Sorry and to you @FusionChefGeoff just seen you're doing Cambridge tomorrow too!

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 04/03/2023 20:00

Well done @brooksghost and @shamoola on your great parkruns. I was handing out finish tokens today. Ran this afternoon instead.

Great stuff @chutneypig - was it a race or a family day out? My DCs are both sporty, but not runners, and can still beat me on the odd occasion I can tempt them to parkrun.

Hope all goes well for our runners tomorrow and looking forward to hearing all about it.

FusionChefGeoff · 04/03/2023 22:24

Right I'm off to bed, number is pinned onto my shirt, the layers are ready for the very chilly start but at least the forecast rain seems to have disappeared.

I'm just aiming to finish faster than my first time which was 2.27 - I did 2.22 in Oct so that's my stretch target!

FusionChefGeoff · 04/03/2023 22:25

Posted too soon!!

Good luck to the other Cambridge runners - my tagging seems to have gone off sorry

FusionChefGeoff · 05/03/2023 14:13

@theworldhasgoneinsane @TheOrigRights how are you?? I feel a bit sick but knees / hips / back all appear to be in one piece. I took 5 mins off my last half marathon time which I am ECSTATIC about!!!

brooksghost · 05/03/2023 15:29

@FusionChefGeoff that's brilliant! Well done!
Hope everyone else had a good run.

shamoola · 05/03/2023 17:29

Whoop whoop @FusionChefGeoff . Amazing... You've inspired me to think that once fully tapered my target time may be possible.

What's next for you?

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 05/03/2023 17:50

Fantastic work @FusionChefGeoff well done!

I saw my neighbours earlier who had just come back from Cambridge after both running the HM - they said it was really cold this morning waiting to start, but looked as though they had enjoyed themselves.

TheOrigRights · 05/03/2023 20:22

More later, just checking in so you don't report me missing!

Loved it - mostly!

theworldhasgoneinsane · 05/03/2023 20:34

Well done @FusionChefGeoff that's great!! Had a great day, apart from being freezing before and after the run!
I managed to do it in 2.08 which I was happy with as was aiming for sub 2.15. And raised £650 so far for MS Trust!
Good luck to everyone with their runs coming up and look forward to it, I enjoyed it much more than I thought I would!
