Starting the Couch to 5K programme. Want to join me?

I REALLY want to do the couch to 5k programme, but can’t commit to a real life group because I work shifts.

So starting tomorrow, does anyone want to join me?

OMG I did it!

And it was fine! Whoever said it was witchcraft was right 🥳🥳

doyouwanticewiththat · 10/12/2022 21:09

Hopping on to join ! Need to lose a stone, have got to week 5 previously but then got covid, and never started again till now ....week 1 nearly complete ..

lipstickwoman · 11/12/2022 09:42

Hello @doyouwanticewiththat well done getting back on it.

Not sure where the others have gone...

doyouwanticewiththat · 11/12/2022 09:58

@lipstickwoman thank you & well done for getting to the 20 mins !
I fell short of that last time and it feels like such a boundary to cross ..

Bookaholic73 · 11/12/2022 13:18

@lipstickwoman congratulations, well done!! How was it?

@doyouwanticewiththat welcome, well done for starting.

I am struggling with just 5 mins in week 4. And now the roads are thick with ice so I won’t run outside in this weather.

@Bookaholic73 it was really weird tbh lol. I was stupidly anxious about it.. I really wanted to do it; I'd have been so disappointed had I not, and as @doyouwanticewiththat says it felt like a massive hurdle.

Once I'd set off I just trundled along and it went really quickly. I could probably have done a bit more, but I'm sticking to the plan.

Today I am still surprised. I'm almost 60, have never managed to run despite trying in the past. It feels surreal lol

Jfw82 · 12/12/2022 19:53

Anyone else been brought to a halt by the subzero temperatures- I don't mind wrapping up
but I really don't want to slip on ice and my only option is running outside

lipstickwoman · 12/12/2022 20:21

I'll be going tomorrow if it's not too icy..

lipstickwoman · 13/12/2022 11:47

Week 6 Run 1 done.

The first 5 minutes were really hard, probably the hardest so far but then the rest was fine.

Really cold out there (minus 1.5) 🥶

doyouwanticewiththat · 13/12/2022 14:38

Might try on the green and the woods later ...footpaths really icy . The thing is if I stop for an icy path then it's harder for me to start again !!

doyouwanticewiththat · 13/12/2022 14:39

Well done @lipstickwoman !

UnaOfStormhold · 13/12/2022 17:38

@Bookaholic73 sorry, missed your question! Yes, I still run regularly though slightly less frequently as I've now taken up doing triathlons so need to fit in swimming and cycling as well, not to mention strength training!

Week 4 is a tough one, bit of a jump up from week 3 in terms of total time on your feet. But it's the stepping stone to week 5 run 3 (on which congratulations @lipstickwoman!) - really building up the total time on your feet to prepare you for longer continuous runs.

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 13/12/2022 17:42

Well have been out of action due to one cold on top of the other.
Still a bit bunged up but I thought sod it I'm missing that endorphin high & did my WK2:R1 last night.
I prefer running in the cold or cooler weather as it seems easier.
As I'm generally a warm person I just wear leggings, a long sleeve t shirt & a short sleeve t shirt over that.

Next run is either tomorrow morning or evening.

Yes, I’ve stopped running for now. The worst of the cold temps are due to finish here next week, so I’ll start again then.
I’m not risking a broken ankle or something.

I suppose I'm quite lucky where I live as no snow or icy footpaths just lots of frost on the trees.

lipstickwoman · 15/12/2022 14:35

W6R2 done.

My best one so far by miles (not literally lol).

Bitterly cold (-3) but the pavements are all dry and it's sunny so felt ok to go.

KaroH · 15/12/2022 18:54

Well done everyone. Especially those still managing to get out on icy paths and with colds.

I missed my Friday run as we were away at a friend's. Wish I'd taken my running shoes as I forgot they had a treadmill. I really resented missing it which is an enjoyable feeling 😂. Then I got too wary to head out in the ice. I run at night so too scared of the dark to go anywhere I could actually run and all of the pavements in my area are just compacted snow.

I've managed to beg use of someone else's treadmill though so got back on the wagon Tuesday then completed another tonight. Pleased to be back at it!

@lipstickwoman congrats on the 20 mins! You're practically Paula Ratcliffe

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 15/12/2022 23:15

Just done my WK2:R2. Paths not too icy here.
If I get chance I'll do the 3rd run of this week on Saturday but really busy all day & meeting a friend in the evening.
So probably do it on Sunday evening after I've recovered from pantomime rehearsals that afternoon (plenty of dancing & singing to warm me up)

lipstickwoman · 17/12/2022 15:24

This morning I ran for 5k 😊

KaroH · 21/12/2022 09:05

@lipstickwoman well done! Can you believe you're now running 5k compared to when you started?!

@TracyBeakerSoYeah I'd find it difficult to have the motivation to go out after panto rehearsals, I imagine they're hard work.

lipstickwoman · 21/12/2022 09:51

@KaroH it's a bit of a miracle tbh, and I wish I'd done it years ago.

I probably shouldn't have done it.. I got to 25 minutes (week 6) and felt fine so just carried on and did the 5k in 38.52

Im off out shortly to see if it was a one off 😆
