Starting the Couch to 5K programme. Want to join me?

Bookaholic73 · 16/11/2022 13:07

I REALLY want to do the couch to 5k programme, but can’t commit to a real life group because I work shifts.

So starting tomorrow, does anyone want to join me?

Hi how did you do? I want to start running. Tried before and gave up. Really need my motivation back 😔.

Jfw82 · 18/11/2022 19:35

I do! I've done it twice before and fallen 'off the wagon' post completion so would love some fellow c25kers

LBB2020 · 20/11/2022 18:12

I’ll join you! I did it a few years ago then fell pregnant with DC2, then Covid and back to work etc! I started it again this year during the summer but then got busy during the holidays, just started again today. Would love some moral support to keep me going

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 20/11/2022 18:25

I'll definitely join you as I started it last December but kept falling off the wagon due to Covid & other health issues etc but have restarted again & I'm just about to start WK2.

Bookaholic73 · 20/11/2022 18:29

Oh damn, you’re all putting me to shame, I haven’t even started yet 😂

OK, let’s start tomorrow then. I’ll be doing my runs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays.

Sounds like covid & work threw quite a few of us off our game, so it’ll be lovely to have some ‘company’ doing this.

ninetieseyebrows · 21/11/2022 00:07

I did my second run today! I'm so unfit and have become so lethargic since having covid and I have to do something to combat it.
Never been an exerciser and definitely not a runner so it's all very new to me.
Second run was fine, but I'm dreading when the length of running gets longer 😱
Can I join in? Great to have some moral support

StellaGibson2022 · 21/11/2022 00:10

Hello,

yes please but can I do my first run this coming Thursday?

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 21/11/2022 01:00

Well @Bookaholic73 I'm also doing my runs on Mon & Wed & either Fri or Sat.

@ninetieseyebrows it does get easier as previously got up to WK 5 then got Covid.
I found the jump up to week 3 the hardest so what I'm doing again this time is running WK2 twice.

@StellaGibson2022 do your run whenever suits you but remember to leave a least a day in between runs.

@Battlecat98 @Jfw82 @LBB2020 will you be joining us?

I think we should call ourselves Bookaholic's Runaholics seeing that @Bookaholic73 started the thread!

So is everyone on WK1 or any further along?

Bookaholic73 · 21/11/2022 07:20

Good morning!

@ninetieseyebrows yes please do join in, it’ll be lovely to have some support!

@StellaGibson2022 you can join in, and when you do your runs is up to you. Good luck!

It’s my first run today, and of course it’s pouring with rain. Any tips on running in the rain?
Im going to a job interview this morning, and it’s right next to a really lovely (flat) trail. So I’ll take a change of clothes and go straight there from my interview.

I’ve got loads of shorts that I wear when weightlifting at the gym, but no leggings for running. So I’ll have to order some online or pop into sports direct this week.

I just have to fit in my runs around work and the children so won’t be on set days. I’ll be doing some outside and some at the gym on the treadmill.
Good luck with your interview @Bookaholic73

Running in the rain:
Accept you'll get wet.
Wear a cap if you have one.
Warm up in the house first. Warm and wet is fine, it's being cold that's grim.
Close fitting clothes are more comfortable if they're avaliable as baggy ones can bunch up.
A light waterproof might help for this kind of run but you'll probably get sweaty anyway.

Give it a go and enjoy feeling epic afterwards 😎

(I did C25k again earlier this year following injury)

Bookaholic73 · 21/11/2022 09:12

Thanks @LBB2020 I think maybe I’ll do some indoor treadmill runs too, on the days the weather is really awful.

@BogRollBOGOF thank you for the tips. I always wear fitted clothes when running as I can’t stand the feeling of clothes flapping about. I’ll dig out my cap for sure, that’s a great idea.

I did w1r1 today. I completed this second time back in March then bouts of kids off school sick meant I stopped and never got going again. Then I got up to week 6 before half term only to have a chest infection and give up. This time I really want to get to the end of it and keep it going as I feel so much better physically and mentally when I get out and run (I also find it easier in winter when it's colder than in the summer!)

Bookaholic73 · 21/11/2022 13:00

W1R1 completed ✅

I got soaked, totally drenched. But felt great afterwards to be honest.

Hardest one done. I said you'd feel epic 😁
Well done!

Thank you, you were right!
I felt like a bit of an idiot, grinning away while everyone else was trying to shelter from the rain 😅
But those endorphins made it worth it.

W1R2 done this morning Smile made it home just before it poured down

Bookaholic73 · 26/11/2022 11:39

Good morning!

Week 1 is complete. I had a gap in the rain at 8am and did my run then.

I’ll be starting week 2 on Monday. The endorphins from running are already lovely, I see why people run now.
I spend the first 5 mins of the run thinking “Why the hell am I doing this, this sucks” and the last 20 mins feeling amazing 😂

MaggieMagpie1 · 26/11/2022 12:48

I did C25k in 2019 after losing about 3 stone, lockdowns and stuffing my face full of crap means I've put it all back on.

Got shock news about a family illness two weeks ago and gave myself a literal kick up the arse to get going again. Am about to start week 3 but some virtual company will be lovely if that's OK. 🙂

The difference it makes to silence the head squirrels is great too!

Bookaholic73 · 26/11/2022 12:53

Hi @MaggieMagpie1 , welcome. Sorry to hear about the family illness.
I lost both my Dad & Grannie to cancer last year, within 6 weeks of each other.
It was a huge wake up call for me.

I’m so glad I got my run done this morning, it’s been pouring with rain all day.

Hello everyone. I started a thread earlier today asking about weight/shape changes with C25K and then saw this.. I'd love to join please.

I did week 3 run 3 this afternoon. It's ok so far, although next week looks tough. One at a time though.

My knee is sore now, so will rest for a couple of days. It's stopped me in the past and I don't want it to get too bad again.

Bookaholic73 · 26/11/2022 16:48

@lipstickwoman Hi, welcome aboard.
I’m worried about week 4 onwards, 5 mins at a time seems like a lot. But I’m sure once I get there it’ll be fine. 😂

OP posts:
lipstickwoman · 26/11/2022 16:51

@Bookaholic73 I don't dare look! I looked at this weeks and it almost put me off, so I'm just thinking about it one at a time 😆
