Gym clothing - does anyone wear track pants?

I used to be a huge gym goer (and slim back then) and then didn’t go fit several years after I had my DS. I always wore gym tops and track pants as did most others.

Now on joining the gym again absolutely all the women wear Lycra leggings - not a track pant in sight, ever. I look horrific in leggings - my legs look like fat sausages and they only highlight my fat stomach/abdomen/bottom. Women of all sizes are wearing leggings but no one looks horrific like me (size 16-18), but I feel like some do look me up and down in my plain black track pants like I’m some sort of oddity. It’s not a ‘poser’ -type gym either but I feel so out of place.

Anyone else not wearing leggings and where do you get your gym clothes from? Maybe my track pants aren’t ‘cool’ enough! 🤦‍♀️

Long line vest top, either by itself or under your top works well

CloseYourEyesAndSee · 25/02/2022 08:56

Workout leggings are like a bra for your belly and Thighs. They hold it all in.

beach1989 · 25/02/2022 11:19

I agree workout leggings are a better option.

HunterHearstHelmsley · 25/02/2022 11:22

Honestly, wear what you want. I think someone I talk to in classes wears trackie bottoms but I wouldn't swear to it! Generally no one is paying attention to what anyone else is doing. Literally the only time I've noticed what anyone else is wearing lately was when a younger woman walked through the club room and her shorts were so short I could see her bum cheeks. I didn't judge it, it was more like... oh!

Branleuse · 25/02/2022 11:24

Loads of women wear trackies and a tshirt. Noone will give a shit

Dentistlakes · 25/02/2022 11:36

Wear what you want op, nobody will care as they’re too caught up in their own workout. I go to a council owned gym and although many do wear leggings, lots wear tracksuit bottoms and a T-shirt. You’re going for your own benefit and should dress the way you feel comfortable.

LimeSegment · 25/02/2022 12:06

I wouldn't care or even notice what others work out in, except sometimes if I see a really nice looking outfit I may think 'that looks great'. I think leggings are popular for a reason though, they allow so much more movement and they stop your flab from painfully bouncing around. Track pants are also way too hot. But wear what you like, it's fine.

PurpleDaisies · 25/02/2022 12:09

I agree with leggings being more supportive. That’s why I like them. I wouldn’t judge what other peoples are wearing though as long as it looks clean and non see through.

dementedpixie · 25/02/2022 12:29

I like big granny pants and lycra leggings to hold my flabby bits in place. I then wear a looser top to hide the flabby bits too

DillDanding · 25/02/2022 12:32

Honestly? Wear leggings. You’ll be so much more comfortable. I see plenty of big women wearing them at my gym. A long T-shirt or vest with them will look a thousand times better than baggy tracksuit bottoms.

Sweaty Betty have a great range.

I always think people in track pants must be hot. This week I also saw a woman in my gym in a knitted jumper !

But in a thin one you'd be less hot than in leggings because the air can get in.
Looubylou · 25/02/2022 19:12

Try yoga pants OP, you won't get so hot. Otherwise, wear your track pants and if anyone looks you up and down, smile and say hi. You won't be the new girl for long anyway - people will be looking someone else up and down. Good for you getting back into things.

lljkk · 25/02/2022 20:57

I get too hot in lycra, wouldn't wear it for any indoor workout (except swimming, I suppose).

CecilyTheWake · 25/02/2022 21:10

Oh, for god’s sake.

Size 16-18 is hardly elephantine. I’m a size 16-18 and I wear leggings and visit the gym every day. No-one has looked twice at me and the gym hasn’t banned me for being fat in charge of a pair of leggings. If you really can’t face it then wear yoga pants.

Just get leggings which fit you properly and don’t keep rolling down or needing to be pulled up.

Stellaris22 · 25/02/2022 21:23

As a size 16 I can say, high waisted leggings are great. I now do the school run pre gym in mine!

ABitOfAShitShow · 25/02/2022 21:27

I don’t but I would if I wanted to.

Nobody cares in the gym. They really, really don’t.

I personally find leggings ‘freer’ and I like a good stretch.

CecilyTheWake · 26/02/2022 08:00

Lululemon wunder train are amazing but expensive. I have two of the high rise ones and they never fall down.

beach1989 · 26/02/2022 17:03

As others have said just wear what you feel comfortable in. If you did decide to switch to leggings you may need to experiment with sizings and brands to find a pair which stays up and is squat proof.
