I've posted in weight loss chat but thought I should post here too

I'm currently doing 2 body combat classes per week and 2 weights sessions
I'm not losing anything

I've been watching lots of crap online about things like v shred, or you shouldn't be running for ages

I just don't know what to believe or what to try?

Any advice would be great thanks

@TomAllenWife oh please OP you've got to be joking surely! You could do stand up comedy as that's funny Grin

Mindyourbusiness22 · 08/08/2021 22:57

The only way to lose weight is by being in a calorie deficit.

Mindyourbusiness22 · 08/08/2021 23:01

@TomAllenWife

I drink A LOT

example:
Thursday; 5 pints of lager
Friday: 2 pints of lager, bottle of red wine, 4 espresso martinis and another lager with a shot
Saturday: no alcohol
Sunday: 500ml red wine & 4 pints lager

I know this is a lot, but I go out a lot and don't want to not drink

Lol…there’s your answer 🤣
SnarkyBag · 09/08/2021 00:05

Ha ha just read the updates. Yeah the weights not going anywhere with that sort of alcohol consumption although I’d be more worried about your liver than you waist line.

BigButtons · 09/08/2021 14:44

I thought drank too much- well I do- but nowhere near that amount. I need to cut back on the booze and so do you!

Spodge · 09/08/2021 19:01

Lager was the absolute killer for me. I used to get through similar quantities in a week, though I tended to drink less per day, but every day.

Lager was my drink of choice and when I knocked it on the head and replaced it with gin and slimline tonic it made a huge difference, even though I hardly cut down the amount of alcohol I drank.

These days I have cut back massively as I prefer to get my calories from food rather than booze and I am not prepared to put the weight I lost back on.

Luckyelephant1 · 09/08/2021 19:06

Lol OP how can you wonder why you aren't losing weight with that alcohol consumption! Also I assume after those benders you'll be demolishing a greasy kebab or at least a hangover fry up? Adding to the calories. If you can't give up the booze at least switch to something like gin and light tonic or vodka soda lime etc.

HarrisMcCoo · 09/08/2021 19:12

Removing alcohol completely will help. I have to lose weight and have had to just eliminate it. Tea is my main drink now.

SunshineCake · 09/08/2021 19:28

Well obviously you're drinking far too many calories.

If you fast until 11am when do you start it?

IJustLikeBiscuitsOK · 09/08/2021 22:19

Am I the only one wondering how you manage to get yourself home on a Friday night?! Bloody hell, if you don't want to give up alcohol (although I really would suggest speaking to a GP about this!), get smarter with it. Vodka/gin diet lemonade or diet coke. Way less calories. If you absolutely have to have beer, get a half and make a shandy with diet lemonade. Depending on if it's a proper cocktail bar, get your espresso martini made as a black americano with a shot of something in (or just have a coffee for one round!) I go out once a week with work, I have one drink, sometimes two, then stick to Pepsi Max. I don't feel like I am missing out, some weeks I drive because I just can't be bothered. If weight loss is important to you OP you need to look into your empty liquid calories, you don't need to deprive yourself at all, just smarter swaps. Good luck

On days you're drinking, you're basically doubling your calorific intake. So of course you aren't losing weight!

For example based on average calories for the drinks you reported, you had:

Thursday x 900 cals extra on alcohol alone
Friday x 1600 cals extra on alcohol alone
Sunday x 1160 cals extra on alcohol alone

Even if you didn't drink the rest of that week, those days alone would raise your seven day average by +500 calories.

You aren't in calorie deficit, so you aren't going to lose weight.

It really sounds like you could do with some reassessing of your drinking habits as it's easy for it all to feel fun and easy... until it's not fun and easy anymore.

EarringsandLipstick · 11/08/2021 14:43

Jesus OP I'm amazed that your only problem is the extra stone.

Are you serious or just messing with us?!

That's a massive amount to drink regularly.

ShortBacknSides · 11/08/2021 17:21

In each class you're probably only burning around 400-500 calories at a time. And that's only 4 exercise sessions a week. Do you walk during the day? How active are you overall?

You need to track what you're eating, and ensure you're in calorific deficit.

Most people underestimate their portions & calories, and over-estimate how much exercise actually burns off.

Track your calories meticulously - weigh portions etc etc - for about a month. Don't change what you eat, just see what's happening with your calorie intake & learn about calories & portions. If you do it for a few weeks, you soon learn, and can ease ff on the meticulousness record, but stay accountable to yourself.

I drink A LOT

Magnificent drip feed. No wonder you're not losing weight or doing much exercise. You must have a permanent hangover & starting to get liver damage.

You are basically drinking around 4000 extra calories a week - equates to nearly 600 extra calories a day.
That's why there's no weight loss.

EarringsandLipstick · 11/08/2021 20:55

In each class you're probably only burning around 400-500 calories at a time.

Not even. More like 250 - 300, and that's going full-on, based on my own measurements.

ShortBacknSides · 11/08/2021 21:27

Well, I was trying to be encouraging @EarringsandLipstick - you’re more correct I think!

That was until I got to the bit about basically the OP being on the road to alcoholism and liver damage.

I suspect a wind up - surely someone couldn’t be that stupid to think that drinking something like 20 units of alcohol a week doesn’t have an effect on their weight?

comeundone · 11/08/2021 22:13

Hoping it's a wind up. This is more like 50 units a week and will do serious damage to OP if binging like this continues. I wouldn't be able to remember in this detail if I drank all that, leave alone the likely kebab on the way home, particularly if I'd only eaten the dinner that OP described! Please get some help with your drinking habits OP, this is really dangerous, effects on weight loss notwithstanding.
EarringsandLipstick · 12/08/2021 17:36

I think on reflection, re-reading the posts it must have been a wind up!
