Anyone else turn beetroot when they run/exercise

I do. I find it really embarrassing. I hate running when it’s busy as I feel people are staring at my bright red face.

I guess there is nothing I can do about it and it’s a pretty vain thing to worry about but it heightens my anxiety and I find myself not exercising because of it. Takes ages to go down too.

Just wondered if anyone else is the same. All the people I see out on my routes are steaming past me at blistering rates not even breaking a sweat!

Me too! And my DD who often gets asked if she’s ok in PE or playtime.

AgnesNaismith · 16/07/2020 19:03

Yep, me too.....but I also have rosacea and melasma, so shit skin in general.

Iamthewombat · 16/07/2020 19:09

Yes. I am fit, but I go very red when I run. I don’t care though. I wouldn’t let worry about my appearance stop me.

DownThePlath · 16/07/2020 19:19

Me! I seem to turn bright red after a run no matter what. Even if it wasn't that difficult or warm etc, I still look like a tomato by the end. Blush Honestly can't fathom it. I noticed a few stares from cars a few weeks ago actually because I was that red (though in my defence, it was when it was 29 degrees and in the afternoon - never again!)

MrsJamin · 16/07/2020 20:45

@MerryDeath It's literally your body's response to you doing exercise, it says nothing negative about your body. It's a shame if it puts you off exercise, please don't let it stop you!

DianasLasso · 16/07/2020 20:47

Yup, always have done, even when I was young and disgustingly fit. (Am now middle aged and disgustingly unfit, but working on it...)

MerryDeath · 16/07/2020 23:22

@MrsJamin i just hate exercise/how it feels so exert myself, my body seems very resistant
.. i could at a time run 6k and honestly getting to that point was a miserable slog that i only did because of a traumatic breakup (lol) and every step i take running is just torture both physical and mental. idc about the red faced part, I'm just a potato... i live for being still and/or horizontal. i walk dogs, care for children, do housework and garden and I'm not overweight so i'll just carry on spending as much time sitting down as my life affords Grin

BusterTheBulldog · 16/07/2020 23:32

Same here! Red face, sweaty and a heavy breather-what a combo! Also get the red patches when I cross legs etc which is interesting that a few of you mentioned.

I did overtake a man tonight who was bright red and sweating buckets, so the betroot face must affect a few of them at least!

pinksummer · 17/07/2020 00:03

Me too! Bright red face...and I'm a gym instructor! It's just how we lose the heat from our body.

violetmartini · 17/07/2020 07:18

Me too, I began to feel so self conscious that I've started to wear a tiny layer of foundation when I work out just to tone it down a bit! Just the cheap Phoera one from amazon but it stays on really well and makes me feel a bit less tomato like!

MotherMorph · 17/07/2020 07:22

Yes I'm always very red when I come back from a run and stays like it for about an hour afterwards. During lockdown when I dont have to see/,meet with people I'm not that bothered!!

FedUpAtHomeTroels · 17/07/2020 07:50

Me always when I exercise I go bright red. Even when I was super fit. I think it might be to do with colouring, I'm very pale anyway.

chatwoo · 24/07/2020 06:30

Yes, me! I avoided exercise for tears, because of it. Well, that, plus the dreaded sweating scalp Sad.

But now with great age, comes great wisdom, and I no longer care Grin. Or I just wear a hat and take the quiet route home!

chatwoo · 24/07/2020 06:31

Avoided exercise for YEARS!!

YessicaHaircut · 24/07/2020 06:35

Me too! I remember doing a Body Attack class wearing a bright purple top and the instructor saying “You’ve gone the same colour as your tshirt!” Blush
When I run I just put on massive sunglasses and over ear headphones so I can ignore everyone and not hear any comments about how red and sweaty I am.

Mintjulia · 24/07/2020 06:40

I don’t go red but I sweat a lot,

But, since I started running, my skin has been almost perfect. All that sweating must be flushing my pores out.

I wish someone had told me as a teenager Smile

FoxBaseBeta · 24/07/2020 12:24

Me too, I think it must be genetic as my brother's the same, even when he was a super fit rugby player in his teens/twenties.

I'm making vague attempts at running again now, so I'm trying not to think about my bright red resting miserable face Blush

justanotherneighinparadise · 24/07/2020 12:27

@Booksandwine80

Yep. I also get strange white patches which make me look like some kind of mutated panda Grin
Me too!
justanotherneighinparadise · 24/07/2020 12:28

I used to like running in the dark for exactly this reason.

CMOTDibbler · 24/07/2020 12:36

I go bright red and sweat a lot when I run or bike hard - and even if I swim in heated water. But my skin is fabulous, and I think all the extra blood flow must do it good, plus my pores get opened up and flushed out.
If I'm running then have to be presentable quickly, I have a cool shower and then wring a flannel out in really cold water and hold it to my face a few times as well as having cold water to drink. It stops the flushing quickly and feels great

Nets888 · 05/07/2024 16:43

Those that get beetroot face, does your face feel tingly too with sweat?

Biggleslefae · 05/07/2024 18:11

Happens to me too. Not long ago a neighbour exclaimed 'OMG your face is PURPLE' as I returned from a run.
(I managed not to exclaim OMG you are 3 x my bodyweight & less than half my age)

henlake7 · 06/07/2024 14:05

yup, another member of the sweaty redface tribe here!
Even as a teenager (I would get asked in exercise classes if I was alright all the time, just because I looked like a stop sign!).

Luckily I dont tend to get too red now unless its really hot or I am going hard, which I dont often do coz moderate intensity is better over 50.
I still sweat like a pig though. Always make sure I wear black bottoms in public so nobody thinks I wet myself when I get a sweaty crotch!!LOL😆

Sunflowers098 · 06/07/2024 19:28

Yes me too! I always mention it to the class instructor because I look like I'm about to die, even though I'm actually fine. Takes hours to stop being puce as well. It's very annoying and I've always been jealous of people who stay pale.

DreadPirateRobots · 23/07/2024 11:31

Yes, when I'm HIITing or running I get red and sweaty, like dripping onto my mat sweaty. It's never occurred to me to be bothered by it; why should I? If I weren't, I wouldn't be working hard enough to improve my cardiovascular fitness. It's a nice feeling after your workout to be flushed, sweaty and wrung out.
