14 day hiit challenge? Anyone fancy it?

I've just been reading a book called the Hiit Bible and it has various workouts/exercises/challenges- I thought I'd do a 14 day hiit challenge before I go on holiday. Anyone fancy doing it with me and tracking on this thread for a bit of moral support and encouragement? You could do any Hiit workout you like (Jillian, YouTube workouts, treadmill/bike intervals etc)

I already run a fair bit, and do a circuits class once or twice a week, but I like the idea of a short sharp 20 mins shock each day. I will do my measurements later, and maybe even a pre-challenge selfie to compare with afterwards!

Hmm ... I have a stupendous frock and a very skinny skirt that I need to fit into (again) by September. A short sharp 20 mins shock each day sounds doable even for my terminally lazy self. And the wardrobe issue requires some serious tape measure intervention.

I will dig out my hoola hoop, order a fancy skipping rope and follow with interest!

Quatermiss hi! Welcome!

Plus also- hoola hoop? Do you have one of those nice weighted ones? Are they any good?

Yes, weighted and knobbly. Very excellent (if you do more than simply walk past the thing twice a day ... HmmBlush). In years gone by, when high heels were in fashion, I found there was nothing better than a hoola hoop session for strengthening the core muscles (I have no idea what I’m talking about btw) needed for walking elegantly in four inch stilettos.

Apparently it's 'the thing' for getting a toned stomach? Might treat myself to one, although I doubt it can undo the damage caused by 3 pregnancies (2 yielding offspring of over 9lbs) and a rather extensive decade of calorific abuse. I have lost the weight now, but I look like someone stuck a pin in a balloon of me. Hence the thread!

So just done day 1- it was actually the set 'benchmark test' so I did 1 minute on/2 min rest and did 5 quite strenuous exercises to see how many reps in one minute. There will be another at the end of the 14 days. I also did 2 minutes sit ups, glute raises and flutter kicks to take me up to 30 mins.

Oh and I took my measurements and a bikini photo for comparison!

Today's workout will be: 20 sec/40 sec intervals x 30 mins consisting of
Thrust jumps
Gecko
Run ups
Burpees
(All from the hiit bible)

The moves are a lot more plyometric (jumpy) than I'm used to, I am definitely feeling it in my abdominals today after doing that hiit test yesterday. However. I have been doing a class that does much longer work intervals (eg 50 second) and shorter rest (10 sec) so it will be interesting to compare.

Plyometric is a wonderful word!

I found, and used my hoop. And put more effort into my very brief yoga session. Small steps ...

Can I join you? I have a wedding in 3 weeks and I could really do with toning up a bit.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 14/07/2019 18:50

Waists hi! Yes please do join me! What sort of things are you going to do? (I've been doing a 25 minute round of 4 different moves, repeated sets of 30 seconds work: 30 seconds rest)

According to my book it should be a rest day tomorrow, but Monday is normally my treadmill session so I will probably incorporate both and do some intervals with incline on my treadmill.

I'm doing skipping for 100 skips then planks, crunches and squats in between. Then finishing off with some hula hooping. I have a Davina weighted one that I bought in Argos. I'm going to try and stay away from bread for the next few weeks as well. I'll measure my waist tonight and see if I can lose an inch or 2 doing this.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 15/07/2019 18:03

✔️day 5 done (although it was a rest day, so not exactly strenuous!!)

Tomorrow will be my evening circuits class which is an hour of 50 second work: 10 second rest

OP posts:
thenewaveragebear1983 · 16/07/2019 16:51

Circuits cancelled tonight so I did a 15 minute joe wicks on YouTube.

✔️day 6

OP posts:
thenewaveragebear1983 · 17/07/2019 16:52

✔️day 7 done (15 minutes, 30 sec work: 30 second rest) plus 50 sit ups

OP posts:
waistaway · 17/07/2019 17:54

I did day 2 on Monday, very long walk Tuesday and day 3 today.

QuaterMiss · 18/07/2019 01:15

Still following - but my efforts are too meagre so far to be worth recording. (And there was a lull in activity while I was away from home.)

Rather glad to have taken up the hoop again. I’d neglected it for so long I was in danger of losing the knack. But it works well immediately before a last thing at night yoga session.

Having already pretty much given up on alcohol at home, I found myself deleting my favourite ice cream from my grocery order today. I’ll be sorry tomorrow ...

thenewaveragebear1983 · 18/07/2019 07:25

I'm at the halfway point, I haven't redone my measurements yet but I actually feel quite taut after doing something every day for a week! I don't have much/any weight to lose so I'm not so concerned about that, plus I don't think my diet has been optimum for weightloss this week!

OP posts:
thenewaveragebear1983 · 18/07/2019 17:41

✔️day 8 done

20 mins of plyometric hiit, with 50 sit-up and 30 leg raises after!

OP posts:
thenewaveragebear1983 · 19/07/2019 10:18

Day 9- rest day ✔️

OP posts:
waistaway · 19/07/2019 22:04

Day 4 done today-yesterday was a bit of a write off as I was travelling for work.

QuaterMiss · 19/07/2019 22:22

Oh dear - had forgotten this was meant to be only 14 days. Still, two solid hours of brisk city walking yesterday ...

Hoop and yoga tonight.

As I am also consuming less I think I deserve to be a little thinner by the end of the challenge period. But I’ll carry on afterwards anyway.
