Getting back into running - anyone with me?

Watching the London Marathon today prompted me to think seriously about how to get back into running. I used to run several times a week and have run London several times but in recent years, my exercise has been sporadic, with runs of only a few miles and lots of hiatuses.

I've now entered the ballot for next year's London (confidently predicting my eleventy billionth rejection) but have decided I need to have something to aim for before then, so have booked in for a half-marathon in September. So I need to get a training plan in place, sort out my diet and weight (currently carrying about two stone over my running weight) and cross-train.

Anyone fancy joining me in a virtual support and training plan?

Hi chesney. I did get out and managed four miles of run with some walking as well. It was lovely outside early this morning. You're right about a routine. Once I'm back in a routine, I'll get on much better, I think.

So much for getting back into a routine; went to gym this morning with DH, half an hour in and get a message from DS that his car won't start so can he borrow my car? Yes, but my car is behind his on our drive, so DH and I come home and they push his car out of the way, with me steering, so that he can get mine out of the drive (we have a parking space in front of our kitchen window too, so he manoeuvred my car into that and then I rolled his car back down the drive). At least he's been able to get to work (he's a teacher) and at least I didn't really have any plans to use my car today and at least DH got a bit of weight training in pushing the car 😁.

Miserable weather here not making it an attractive prospect to go out and run later, so I might go to a class at the gym later instead. Still low carbing and have had a keto headache for a couple of days but I'm going to give it till the end of this week and see whether it's made any difference. I never weigh myself (except at my annual oncology appointment) but go by how my clothes feel. I'm starting to feel more comfortable in things that were right recently, so maybe it's working. I miss potatoes, though (Scottish, we love our tatties! 😄).

How's everyone else doing? I realise this post was all me, me, me -sorry, fellow plodders.

Ah that's a shame. Life does have a habit of getting in the way!

Yep rain here all week apparently. I hate the rain 😂 I sold my treadmill I kept in the garage too. I'll have to force myself out in it.

Day off for me today. Was up at 2.30 for work. So will be knackered later!

Hope everyone has a good day!

Life has definitely got in the way for me. Work has gone crazy busy, and in the last couple of weeks, we've found a house we want to buy, plus put our house on the market. In the space of that time, our house has sold, our offer has been accepted on the one we liked, and I've been consumed with all the gubbins that comes with that whole merry-go-round.

Meanwhile, my kids had exam week, so half term was spent making sure they revised sufficiently, then the week of the exams, supporting them and more revision.

And to top it all off, I'm on a (very small) committee that organises an annual 10k run. The week before the event is packed with things we all have to do, and the weekend itself is exhausting. It went off really well, 1000 runners, but I've been absolutely knackered since. Oh, and once we'd packed up and got home, my DH had a fall and has managed to crack a rib.

Anyway, my running has taken a hiatus, but lat night I dragged myself onto the dreadmill, and I managed 5k fairly comfortably (albeit slowly - I did my 5k in the same time our fastest runner managed the 10k!).
