Exercise

Gym = washing hair hassle

Anyone else put off going to the gym because it involves washing your hair?

I go to the gym Sat & Sun, and try to manage one day in the week. I would like to fit in another extra day but going to the gym means washing my hair afterwards which is a hassle. I have to use lots of product in my curly hair and it doesn't respond well to blow drying so have to let it dry naturally. Often this means going to bed with damp hair which can then lead to weird kinks.

Anyone else with long or hassle-y hair put off going the gym? Or do you just suck it up for the sake of fitness?

I totally understand this! I’m not the best influence here though because I put exercise off for this which I know is wrong. My laziness prevails unfortunately Confused

Watching because I have this problem too. Have been trying to go in the mornings before work so it's not 'fresh' hair anyway... Watching what others do... They just don't seem to sweat like I do and can skip hair washing!!!

I just tie my hair up and wash the next morning (although I do shower) - I take it your hair wouldn’t allow this?

My scalp sweats first! I couldn’t get away with not washing my hair after exercise

Well I wash my hair twice a week and gym four times a week.

On gym days I pin it up in a severe style, sweatband (great look) and use dry shampoo after. Sorted.

My hair is AWFUL if I wash it any more

Yeah I just deal with it. Admittedly my hair is quite straight, I've acquired a super powerful hairdryer and just straighten it for 2 mins.

I don't wash my hair everytime I go go to the gym. Just put it up or use dry shampoo. Then again I don't really sweat much but I only weight train

I look forward to gym hair washing, the shower is so much more powerful than mine at home 😂

I dry shampoo loads and pile my hair up afterwards.

Oh, and I dry shampoo before AND after to make sure it absorbs as much oil as possible

I only rinse my hair in the shower after exercise. no products.

I cut my hair short so I could wash it every night after the gym without spending ages drying it.

My hair has to air dry and takes bloody ages, so couldn't really do it in the morning and then go to work with wet hair.

I sweat a lot at the gym - I really don't think I couldn't not wash it after a session.

However, I do only co-wash anyway (wash with conditioner, not shampoo). But it does mean I have to give my head a good massage with the conditioner, then I comb it through before rinsing. Then I put on a bit of product before I wrap it in the towel (otherwise it will just frizz). Then I scrunch some mousse in and when it's nearly dry, add a bit more product. It's a bloody faff and time consuming!!

Yes if you're only weight training then I can understand why you don't need to wash your hair everytime. I tend to do a circuit of 5 mins all out(ish) on cardio equipment interspersed with using the resistance machines. It's the 5 mins x 4 of treadmill/stairs thing/ski thing/bike that gets me sweating.

I suppose I could just add in the extra day and just do resistance.

I firmly believe this is one of the main reasons girls tail off doing sport from teenage years as you probably get up 1st thing, shower, do your hair, possibly makeup too then you need to do it all again if you are doing any sport or at the gym. It’s just a load of hassle.

I’ve taken to doing resistance walking in the pool as I can stick my hair up and it doesn’t get chlorinated and become all dry and brittle (very curly hair with tendency to frizz).

I have exactly the same problem it drives me insane, I have to wash, blow dry and straighten my hair after ever workout, my hair is literally wet through from root to tip with sweat, I really envy people who do not sweat from their head. There is no solution for me, either I don’t workout or I have to go through the whole sorry palaver, hate it.

I’m also a curly girl with arsehole hair. I have to wash it everytime. I just end up going to bed with wet hair and keeping my fingers crossed that I sleep relatively still.

UnexpectedItemInShaggingArea I really could not carry that off

BettyBooJustDoinTheDoo I know!! My gym seems to be full of women with immaculate long hair in pony tails swishing gently from side to side with their immaculate faces not breaking out in so much as a shine. Then there's me, dripping with sweat, face bright red, my neck itching like hell and all blotchy.

womanhuman not on, is it? I'm scared to look in the mirror after wet hair to bed night. I think I'd be ok if I slept extremely still and my face down on the pillow.
