Gym = washing hair hassle

Anyone else put off going to the gym because it involves washing your hair?

I go to the gym Sat & Sun, and try to manage one day in the week. I would like to fit in another extra day but going to the gym means washing my hair afterwards which is a hassle. I have to use lots of product in my curly hair and it doesn't respond well to blow drying so have to let it dry naturally. Often this means going to bed with damp hair which can then lead to weird kinks.

Anyone else with long or hassle-y hair put off going the gym? Or do you just suck it up for the sake of fitness?

I used to spray mine with dry shampoo before exercising. I didn't find that it ever got really that bad but it would help feel fresh.

This sums me up cake

Gym = washing hair hassle

I'm not sure if this helps but I've just stopped caring about going around with wet hair. I can't blow dry mine either so I just turn up at work / school gate / wherever with wet hair.

Appreciate that if you're going in the evening and you can't sleep with wet hair that's an issue...

shalll funny enough I used to not mind when I was younger. Now I feel a bit rude if I go somewhere with wet hair. I've got to say, I don't recall anyone else at work walking in with wet hair.

You mentioned itching. Could it be that your current products are not quite right and/or irritating your scalp. My hair is terrible with both humidity and dry air. My skin is also sensitive. With the right product, hair and skin are doing better.

Ha this made me laugh, I have long, really thick hair that I have to low dry in sections which takes bloody ages, otherwise look like I’ve been through a bush. I work out 5 times a week and never shower at the gym! I just go home and shower there as I always forget something crucial. I also only wash my hair twice a week... that’s prob terrible but I just don’t have the time but am not going to cut down on exercise.

PorridgeLove oh that's my neck itching. I put Aveeno on it. It still itches because my neck is getting old.

Yorkie7 oh I NEVER shower at the gym...apart from anything else, I literally live across the road from the gym!

I've given up with my hair at the gym. I shower after the gym but can't afford the hour each time to dry and straightem I put it up now after the gym shower, it looks terrubke but I've resided myself to that while I get toned and fit for summer

This is why I avoid swimming and running and the gym. It’s not just a quick 20 minutes for a run, I have to factor in yet another shower and hair dry. The absolute faff of getting changed after swimming completely puts me off.

EngagedAgain · 04/02/2019 22:04

I put off swimming for the same reason, and no, I'm not getting a swimming cap!

Bumblebee39 · 04/02/2019 22:13

I don't wash my hair after the gym (unless I swim)
It's very dry, I'm not an overly sweaty person, and I shower every morning.
I have been known not to shower after exercise, though, so probably a bit of a minger. I use a lot of deodorant and dry shampoo and just wash at the usual time.

I mean, I do Often have a quick shower in the shower and a relaxing bath of a night time, but I wouldn't necessarily wash in the middle of the day just because I exercised then.
I rarely style my hair and use minimal makeup. I would rather be able to get a sweat on than look pretty.

Can you not towel dry and sleep with it up in a bun on top of your head? Then in the morning do the mousse thing and finish it off? Maybe spritz some water on the bits that have fully dried if you need to.

Equally if you can spend the next day with it tied up then that would work!

Ouai foaming dry shampoo; does what other dry shampoos don’t
