C25K really works

I finished week 7 day 1 today, and surprised myself by running for 25 minutes without stopping. I could have gone longer, too!

I'm not fast.

I haven't gone further than 3.6 km.

But my endurance has increased so much, even when I'm only managing to get out 1-2 times a week.

So for those of you just starting, or feeling like you've got that wall in week 5, keep going. You can do it!

I'm looking forward to managing a full 5 km one day, and I know I can do it because I've improved so much already.

Hi

I completed wk1 run 1 yesterday and just about made it through...really struggled on those last 2 runs! I'm so pleased to read so many success stories on this thread as was thinking I'll NEVER be able to complete it...but maybe I can...this thread is inspiring me to carry on with it. Will head out tomorrow morning for the next one and hopefully it will start to become a little easier over time...!

Paperdolly · 06/04/2018 20:37

Time... n Brassica... thanks for your support and advice. I've always run on the level. I didn't realise it was advisable to incline to 1. I daren't move it after I'd got to week 5. I thought of finishing the programme then seeing how far I can run at 1% and starting again from there.

lorisparkle · 07/04/2018 17:33

Just realised it has taken me two months to complete two weeks worth of runs! But I am so proud of myself as I thought I would do the park run. I managed to walk / run around the 5k course in less than 40 minutes. I wasn’t even last!!!!!

Paperdolly · 08/04/2018 09:37

Yayyy. Last run of week 8 and went outdoors for first time. It isn't flat round here so any inclined to begin with would put me off. But I did it!!!

ProjectGainsborough · 08/04/2018 09:40

So glad this thread popped up on Active. I lurked for a bit and it motivated me to get started. Just completed week 2!

lorisparkle · 08/04/2018 09:47

Well done paperdolly and projectgainsborough

I am more worried about running on a treadmill, I think I will fly off!!!!

I find I run faster and further when in a group. It is amazing how peer pressure can motivate! Now I just need to be able to keep running!

Paperdolly · 08/04/2018 16:16

Lorisparkle. You just run slow and steady; even on a treadmill. Saying that my swinging arms have pulled the emergency stopper out a couple of times. 🙄😂

Adversecamber22 · 08/04/2018 17:00

I'm going to start C25k. I tried a bit of brisk walking interspersed with a little running for just over a mile today but realised I need a programme to follow. I'm thinking of buying a Fitbit. Any recommendations? the simpler the better. Thanks.

dragonwarrior · 08/04/2018 18:00

Adverse - what kind of phone do you use?

I really recommend a Fossil smart watch, I use with an iphone but apparently works best with android. Anyway I use strava on it for runs and bike rides, I have my daily steps on the front screen and I also get my messages pop up from text and watsapp on it so in meetings I can quickly glance and see if it is urgent.

dragonwarrior · 08/04/2018 18:00

Meant to add paired with an adroid phone it does your heart rate etc.

WhiskeySourpuss · 08/04/2018 18:21

I've had the app on my phone for weeks but not used it Blush

Starting tomorrow with DD - I can walk 5k in around 45mins but I'm not looking forward to the running part 🙈

Paperdolly · 08/04/2018 21:55

Just look on it as a faster walk Whiskey... that's all it should be initially. It's about stamina n distance rather than speed.

Adversecamber22 · 09/04/2018 17:53

dragonwarrior I have an android phone so will look in to that recommendation thanks.

I haven't run today but walked briskly for 40 minutes.

WhiskeySourpuss · 09/04/2018 18:29

Well it was absolutely chucking it down with rain, we're soaked to the skin & we're knackered but we did it... day one done 🎉

Paperdolly · 09/04/2018 20:21

Way to go Whiskey... 👏🏻

Long time no see. :) I'm still running. Lost some fitness due to a long bout of illness passed between DC round and round again. This year has not been great for health and wellness in my family.

But spring has finally sprung and everyone has gone back to school, and I ran 5k in 40 minutes today. :) Not fast at all but I did it. I've already mapped out my 10k run route. Because I'm mental.

Well I took your advice and kept on running and managed 20 minutes without walking! It was not as bad as I thought and has spurred me on to keep running for longer!

athingthateveryoneneeds · 10/04/2018 10:46

Well done, lorisparkle! Feels good, doesn't it. :)

My running partner doesn't feel ready to move onto W5R3 so about to go and do R2 again with the aim of doing the BIG ONE on Sunday!

Aelinandme · 14/04/2018 11:05

Week 2 run 3 completed this morning in the lovely sunshine. The fifth out of six runs was the toughest. I'm wondering what happens in week 3?

athingthateveryoneneeds · 15/04/2018 13:44

In my app it's a 90 second run, walk, 3 minute run, walk, 90 seconds, walk, 3 minutes.

You can do this.

I ran 7+ km yesterday and have my sights set on 10k now! I went and bought proper running shoes and had my gait analysed and everything. I guess I'm a runner.

TheGhostOfBarryFairbrother · 15/04/2018 18:00

I did it! Beat the W5R3 wall! I was very slow but I did it!

Paperdolly · 15/04/2018 19:02

Did you get out today TheGhost...?

Paperdolly · 15/04/2018 19:04

Sorry TheGhost... 🙄. Sorry. Just seen your post.

Pleased you didn't give in. 👍🏻

chocoshopoholic · 15/04/2018 19:17

I did week 4 run 1 yesterday.

Today I have the most painful calfs. Just about managing to walk but going downstairs is virtually impossible!

I've tried some gentle stretching, a walk around the block and a bath to no avail so far.
