C25K really works

I finished week 7 day 1 today, and surprised myself by running for 25 minutes without stopping. I could have gone longer, too!

I'm not fast.

I haven't gone further than 3.6 km.

But my endurance has increased so much, even when I'm only managing to get out 1-2 times a week.

So for those of you just starting, or feeling like you've got that wall in week 5, keep going. You can do it!

I'm looking forward to managing a full 5 km one day, and I know I can do it because I've improved so much already.

That's fab, Pip!

Ah this is great my husband started last week (is not unfit but has put a bit too much weight on) and is really enthusiastic this far.
Also my mother who is 70 and never shown any interest in exercise EVER has been doing it for about three months and has lost LOADS of weight.

athingthateveryoneneeds · 14/01/2018 21:12

Ah, I want to be running 5k, 10k and beyond at 70! That's amazing.

I haven't done it for over a year due to ( lots of excuses) and never got further than bouncing between week 1 and 2.

I then bought a cross trainer but haven't used it as I find it toooooo much. I also missed the lovely 7am scenery as I ran at first light. I'm a heavy weight. Hmm

Paperdolly · 14/01/2018 21:23

... I say ran. 😂

Pipsqueak11 · 14/01/2018 21:52

thanks athingthateveryoneneeds Smile

squiggletea · 14/01/2018 23:41

Thank you swimming. Have looked at the podcast but Sunday night is always full on here:-)

Any thoughts on the run longer or faster question that Pip asked about? Time dictates that faster in the same time will be my more realistic option.

I’m still working on anything is better than nothing but think I need some sort of goal/strategy to stay focused.

Smartiesteapot · 15/01/2018 09:00

Just marking place to join you.
Due to operations and ill health and too many excuses I haven't done any exercise in 15 years.

Started last year but couldn't finish the first day and discovered I had a B12 issue.

Now on injections and just finished first day.

athingthateveryoneneeds · 15/01/2018 10:09

Nice one, Smarties! Good to hear you're well enough to start again. :)

I just got back from a "run". I'm going at a speed slightly faster than walking at any rate. Pushing the buggy makes me slower but it is offset by the dog pulling me along in her excitement (I'm far too slow for her!).

I need some proper running leggings, I think. But nothing £££! Part of the appeal of running is the low start up costs!

Week 7 run 1 done! It was 25 mins. Same as week 6 run 3. My aim this week is to push the pace a little. Very little. Grin

Well done! I'm starting for the 5th time on C25K. Every time I got to week 5/6 and I found excuses not to carry on- illness etc. This time I'm doing it with a local running club. The first was yesterday and I'm hoping with the weekly meetups and our homework I'll crack it this time around.

Smartiesteapot · 15/01/2018 13:25

Thanks athing.
I know what you mean. I ran with a Whippet this morning, perhaps not the best idea!

BrassicaBabe · 15/01/2018 13:36

Lol "ran with a whippet" Grin C25K Usain Bolt style!!

ImAMarshmellow · 15/01/2018 13:37

I started last year and did my first 5k in September. Stopped running end of October and started on the c210k yesterday in preparation for the great north run. I really surprised myself by running the best part of 8k! I did x5 10min runs. I couldn't even run for 5 minutes when I first started.
I always feel really good after a run and tempted to go tonight but my shorts are smelly and sweaty and I don't have a spare pairSad

squiggletea · 15/01/2018 17:43

Well done marshmallow!

Does anyone know any apps that would help build speed so to run further but still in half an hour? Or just general tips!

I definitely want to progress further but struggle to even fit 3 half hours in busy weeks.

MidnightVelvetthe7th · 15/01/2018 19:16

Week one run one again tonight! Its dark, freezing & possibly raining :)

Wish me luck

athingthateveryoneneeds · 15/01/2018 20:36

How'd you get on, Midnight?

Running leggings from TK Maxx. Very reasonable prices and there's a lot of selection.

I'd like to have a go at the C25K but have arthritis, which is particularly bad in my knees. Anyone else a bit mangled and still does it?

MidnightVelvetthe7th · 15/01/2018 21:21

I thought I was going to die when I finished athing but now I'm on the sofa with a hot chocolate feeling pretty good SmileSmile

MidnightVelvetthe7th · 15/01/2018 21:21

Loads of people out running tonight as well!!

MidnightVelvetthe7th · 15/01/2018 21:23

Bobbin I don't have arthritis but I need to lose a few stone so possibly mangled, I go very slowly, maybe try it and see? Smile

BobbinThreadbare123 · 15/01/2018 21:29

Do you wrap up warm to run? I am quite fit; I lift weights but can't do jumping things and cardio is not my favourite.

MidnightVelvetthe7th · 15/01/2018 21:32

Tonight I wore running leggings, joggers over the top, a long sleeved running top, sports bra, jacket and gloves.

BobbinThreadbare123 · 15/01/2018 21:33

My kinda gal! I might get some knee warmers and try it out.
