How did you start? Been trying one minute run, one minute jog, one minute walk and repeat for half hour but I am so tired.

Also I am by a park now but moving to an area where I will be on a B road and only partial pavement.

Should I get a running machine or try to find a cross country route?

Ah yes I second a belt rather than an armband thing

MayFayner · 26/10/2017 14:20

Another vote for couch to 5k. Amazing. I am the most un-sporty person ever and at first I thought I would pass out, but I did it in the end Smile

It took me longer than the prescribed time because I would stick on a week until I found it easy, then move to the next.

I hurt my Achilles' tendon a few weeks ago and I missed running so much while I was off. Fantastic mental benefits as well as the obvious physical ones too.

If I can do it you can too, I promise!

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 26/10/2017 16:14

Yes, around weeks 4 & 5 I did that quite a bit.

Daisy - I found the first session the hardest of all, but from what you said in your first post you've already faced that! The more you do the more your body will get used to it.

Having said that, do stick to having a rest day between sessions. I overdid it & had a whole horrible month of not being able to run at all because my knees were killing me. And while you can pick up clothing & a belt cheap, the things not to skimp on are trainers & a sports bra.

I wrote this on a different post but explains DPs reaction, I’m over the moon 🙂

He said he’ll walk a marathon if we have to and will baby sit as much as he can (he works 4 days away From home, 3 days at home as well as PT Uni so can’t always cover it all)

Run no 2 tomorrow.

Should I give my Pilates DVD a miss and do it Saturday instead?

Don’t want to be overly tired, got to deal with both my parents and in laws this weekend (not at the same time though thankfully!)

OP posts:
DaisyRaine90 · 26/10/2017 20:54

I walked 2 hours today but no other exercise.

I’m so unfit though it killed me.

I used to be a gym bunny, size 8/10 now a small 12 and got a Mum tum.

I don’t want to lose much weight (9lb to be a healthy bmi) but hate getting out of breath playing “it” with the kids,

My 4 year old can run faster than me.

Besides it’s on my bucket list!! More than once!!

Daisy I might join you! I’m so unfit! I really want to do couch to 5k just to prove to myself that I can.

What are the belts people are saying about?

Yaley · 02/11/2017 11:09

Doesn't running knacker your knees, pelvic floor and face?!!!

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 02/11/2017 13:54

What are the belts people are saying about?

Belts / running bumbags for putting keys, bank card etc in.

Doesn't running knacker your knees, pelvic floor and face?!!!

I did hurt my knees & have to stop for a while. But then I got decent shoes, started doing knee-strengthening exercises between runs & made sure I ran on a mix of surfaces & they've been fine since. Don't think I've noticed any difference to my pelvic floor or face.

Littlechocola · 02/11/2017 13:56

Thank you

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 02/11/2017 15:46

You're welcome.

I have a running backpack for work mornings, just big enough to take a change of clothes, purse etc. As for not being fit, before I started C25K just over a year ago I couldn't run for five minutes. It's one of the best things I ever did.

SomewhatIdiosyncratic · 02/11/2017 16:11

I wear high vis in dull conditions.
Generally I favour heading into the nearby countryside for the fun of it, but it's slower and would be difficult for learning.

I have less trouble with my knees in my mid-thirties than I did as a teenager (unless I'm after mile 10 of a road race Wink)

GrumpyOldBag · 03/11/2017 14:23

I joined a running club 6 weeks ago.

Unfit, overweight, 53.

It's been a revelation! I'm still the slowest in the group, but the feeling afterwards is amazing!

Just a bit disappointed that I haven't lost any weight ...

DaisyRaine90 · 03/11/2017 14:53

I have started doing lots more walking and occasional jogging. When I pass out door gyms I have a go (nearly every day) and I’m working on my core/ Pilates at home again. Going to start C25K this week. I’ve downloaded the app.

I gave up smoking again today. Every time my stress flares up I start for a week or two again, but I had to use my ventolin today so time to sort it out 😊

I might get some high vis gear just to walk to the station for 7am commute tbh it’s SOOO dark x

Any tips on the best running shoes? I have sketchers runners and Nike air max or light vans but could buy something new if needs be 😊

Cheaper than a gym membership!!

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 03/11/2017 15:07

Your best bet for shoes is to go to a specialist running shop (e.g. NOT Sports Direct!) and get some advice.

The only shoes I ever get excited about are my running ones Grin.

DaisyRaine90 · 03/11/2017 15:29

trevortrevorslattery · 03/11/2017 15:43

daisy your skechers will be grand if they are running shoes. I've done about 200 miles in my sketchers this year and find them really good.

DaisyRaine90 · 03/11/2017 16:22

Yes sketchers running shoes

They are a bit worn from the gym but sure they still have some life on them

And they are so blinking comfortable!!

Littlechocola · 04/11/2017 22:04

Daisy, I started on Thursday and also gave up smoking 2 weeks ago.

DaisyRaine90 · 04/11/2017 23:30

I’m so all or nothing.

I’ve eaten healthy, not smoked or drunk, done back to back exercise classes, and generally been a health bore too for periods.

Then I go back to drinking Diet Coke, smoking fags, drinking wine, eating chocolate and sitting on my fat arse

I’m ill this weekend so no running just sleeping. Hoping next week I’ll get my 3 runs in 😊

GrumpyOldBag · 05/11/2017 16:16

Does anyone know how long you should wait between eating a big meal & running.

Slept badly last night so got up late this morning & didn't have time for an early run, which is when I like to do it.

But just had a big roast lunch - and don't want to run in the dark!

DaisyRaine90 · 05/11/2017 16:21

I’d say an hour like I would for swimming but not 💯

FinallyDecidedOnUserName · 05/11/2017 16:26

@BenLui that’s amazing - you've inspired me

DaisyRaine90 · 18/11/2017 15:41

Second Couch 25K today. woop!

Any ideas what stretches I should be doing? I am so stiff, especially running but also on off days

Whats your pre and post running foods?

Today I had a milky coffee before, and 2 yoghurts and a pint of water when I got back x
