lljkk · 22/08/2017 20:38

yes! I am very long in torso, too.

TriGirl007 · 22/08/2017 21:39

Nice swim done tonight only 2 of us in the lane I struggled to get going then when I looked up again I'd been swimming non-stop for nearly 40mins Smile felt relaxed but started to work on increasing pace on my FC, by doing fast FC, 1L breaststroke recovery which worked quite well.

lljkk · 24/08/2017 14:47

I barely managed 40 minutes today... just found it all too boring!!
(Usually set a 50 minute minimum swim)
But my ankle was whinging other day so I have been swimming rather than running... now I think I've been swimming too much.

Having an odd day off work so looking forward to a nap. zzzzzzz

TheMShip · 24/08/2017 20:21

Hmmmm naps..... Grin

I'm doing the Channel crossing challenge at my pool for August/September. Started 10 days late but I'm chugging along nicely. It's 35ish km, I'm a bit over 8 into it after this morning. I like having distance goals. I'm struggling at work at the moment, and I really didn't want to get out and go to the office today!

rightsofwomen · 25/08/2017 22:52

Ladies and gentlemen I had the whole pool to myself this evening.
They took the lane ropes down at 9.40 so I just swam up and down in my own private pool.
1K done. 26 mins.

Oh bliss rights. On the rare occasions that's happened to me I've just wanted to turn over and do a starfish float in the middle, never mind the swimming.

CorrigansDoorKnob · 26/08/2017 13:14

Hi Swimmers. Who was the person going on a Total Immersion course? I'd love to hear more about it.

We had a breaststroke session at my last Masters class and I'm finding it very difficult to get with the new timing. The coach said we should be kicking once our arms are out front again in streamline. I can't seem to get it right anymore.

Hissy · 26/08/2017 14:18

Ooh rights you lucky soul! I've had that once and it's utter bliss! I ended up doing over 2k that day and felt like I could swim forever 🙂

Corrigan 'tis I! I'm going back to do the TI intro course (to indoctrinate the boyf) in October

We too struggle with the new timing for breaststroke.. watch YouTube videos, practice loads and it will get better.

I'm still not 100% that I've got it, but when I'm back in pools I'll give it more of a look.

Back from my hols, we racked up at least 15,000m over the 10 days we were there, it was heavenly! Even on stormier days.

Am hoping my OWS will have improved, I've certainly been able to swim good 300m chunks both against and with the flow.

TheMShip · 28/08/2017 09:32

Hissy that's some great distance over 10 days! I'm quite envious.

I'm 10.2km into the Channel crossing challenge after 13 days. 22km and 33 days left.

Hissy · 28/08/2017 19:25

Well done MShip! I wanted to do that challenge, but have missed the start!

There is a 10k marathon swim that took place yesterday off the island we were staying on, to the next island... I was on the ferry on Friday looking compulsively at the sea thinking, yeah I'd so love to be swimming that marathon swim.

Not good enough yet tho.. have a lot of work to do!

Back in the pool this week, not sure when exactly, but back to work tomorrow, so will be back in lanes shortly I'm sure 🏊🏽‍♀️🏊🏽

TriGirl007 · 28/08/2017 20:48

Good swim session today before they shut early for the bank hols. I'm struggling with water in my right ear though as that's the side I breathe when doing FC. Anyone got any good ear plug recommendations? I bought some of that blue putty stuff but can't figure out how it will stay in? I tried it in the shower it fell straight out!

FranKatzenjammer · 29/08/2017 16:58

I'm new on this thread, but I've read it all (and the previous one!). I recently started swimming again after not really having been since 2006. So far, I've been to my local pool 11 times during August and I absolutely love it. Yesterday I swam two miles of breaststroke (head under, of course!) and I've been working on my whip kick. The morning lanes sessions are really long at my pool (7.15-9.30am or longer) and as I don't have to go to work during August (education) and I have no kids, I can stay in for ages. I'm determined to keep swimming when I go back to work- I work really long hours though, so maybe I'll just go on my days off. Anyway, thought I'd just say 'hi'- you have all inspired me to keep swimming, especially Hissy!

Hissy · 29/08/2017 17:59

Wow! Fran! Good work on the breaststroke!! I am not good at all at breaststroke, although getting there...

Am also trying and failing to remember butterfly exists... but there will be no escape this term...

FranKatzenjammer · 29/08/2017 20:08

Thanks, Hissy. Good luck with the butterfly. I'd love to try it, but first I'll have to learn how to do a proper front crawl and backstroke!

Hissy · 29/08/2017 23:46

YouTube is your friend here! Have a look, there are a gazillion videos that will show you tips and techniques

Butterfly is officially evil.

Boyf and I went training tonight, did our warm up, then a bit of kick board, then we practiced tumble turns- and I didn't drown!!

Ok only did them at the deepend, I always get stuck on my head in the shallow end 😂

Back to YouTube for more videos for me 😂😆🤣

FranKatzenjammer · 30/08/2017 11:12

Yes, YouTube is responsible for about 75% of my breaststroke technique. I was taught the breathing as a kid, but in the last month I've changed the arms, the legs and the timing. This morning I REALLY didn't feel like going swimming (I'd only had five hours' sleep) but I did, and after the first 30 lengths everything finally came together and I was able to swim much faster the ever before. It felt amazing, as I'm not particularly sporty or fit. I got out after 106 lengths though.

I'd love to be able to do tumble turns! Are they different for each stroke?

Hissy · 30/08/2017 12:57

I think tumble turns do vary yes, again youtube is your friend here.

I love it when we get ourselves into the zone and it's all wonderful! Good for you for persisting in going anyway! way over half the effort of swimming is in actually getting into the pool to start with!

I had this wonderful zone every day on holiday, after a few crossings of a bay, and last night I realised that I don't feel like I want to die anymore for the first few lengths, it must be because overall fitness is getting better.

Masters starts back up on Sunday, we both struggled with the difference between seawater and getting back into pool water, the loss of buoyancy made such a difference! I was hoping that the sea swimming, with the waves etc would give us greater strength/speed, but I probably won't know until I'm back in the lane with the others.

rightsofwomen · 30/08/2017 13:32

Welcome Fran.

1K done at lunch time lane swim. Didn't feel like talking to anyone, so was a bit thrown by seeing a friend there. I wasn't stopping at all so it was all OK and I just said hi as we left.
