Just back from 1K in the pool. Lane to myself. Lost in my thoughts. Perfect.

Oh it's lovely to do that! I miss the solitude of swimming solo in my lane. Will budge boyf over next time so I can do my own thing from time to time.

SkiBike007 · 12/08/2017 18:57

Had a double first today my 1st trip to the London Aquatics centre and my first time in a 50m poolSmile I did 10L with my daughter but we were both abit tired after a morning watching the World Athletics & poor night sleep all in a "family" hotel room. But was a good experience.

Igottastartthinkingbee · 12/08/2017 20:14

Oh wow ski! So you swam in the Olympic pool?? I'm very envious! I've had a nose from the outside but not been in. Or the stadium, we've been following the athletics every night whilst on our hols. Am on catch up tonight so no spoilers please Grin we're an hour behind.

I've never swam in a 50m pool, it sounds exhausting! How was it for you?

bruffin · 12/08/2017 21:15

Im a half an hour train ride from stratford, dd dives there on a monday night but she has got an 18 to 25 so fares are cheaper. Its got very reasonable membership, but the fares make it not worth it on a regular basis.
I do love swimming there when its not too busy, you do get a few splashing up one length then hanging at the end wayching the diving.

SkiBike007 · 13/08/2017 09:06

It was great and didn't feel tiring at all, it was cold but my daughter did well swimming too. We moved up a lane as there were a few "non-swimmings" attempting to make 50m but failing Grin bless them even the lifeguard had a word with them. I'd love to swim in a big pool regularly but alas we live in the SW where there are v.ltd 50m pools.

TheMShip · 14/08/2017 12:05

ski I'd love a colder pool. The one I go to is about 2 degrees too warm for swimming lengths. But it's the nicest one around otherwise.

Did a happy 2.5km today, rarely have time for more than 1.5, 2 at a pinch lately, felt great.

BestIsWest · 15/08/2017 07:18

Hello, dropped off this thread. Have been very bad about going for the last month but went yesterday and did 40 lengths front crawl and really enjoyed it. Hoping to go again today if work doesn't get in the way.

SingingAvocado · 15/08/2017 10:33

Welcome back Best.

I'd love to have a go in the Olympic pool. I go into London once or twice a week for work. If I went in just to swim it would be quite an expensive swim!

Our pool was 25m again. There seems to be a problem with the divider. Last swim before our hols and the much smaller pool …

JimmyPestoJunior · 15/08/2017 10:44

Can I join this thread please? I am probably best described as an enthusiastic newbie. I joined my local gym & pool yesterday with the vague aim of toning up a bit before my wedding in October.
I went for my first swim and I have to confess to starting out as one of the 'slow breaststroke while desperately trying to keep hair dry' swimmers Blush I soon realised how inefficient that was and completed 30 lengths before needing to stop.
I have been reading the thread and am using your stories as my motivation to keep going and improve. I swam in the leisure lane yesterday thanks to my slow and inept rule but my goal is to graduate to the fast lane asap. Swimming hat is newly purchased and ready to go for today's effort.

SingingAvocado · 15/08/2017 12:17

Welcome JimmyPesto. Managing 30 lengths on your first swim is brilliant. You'll get lots of encouragement on here (and we will need a wedding pic!).

SkiBike007 · 15/08/2017 14:54

Welcome jimmy 30Ls is a great start. If you are not confident with head/face inthe water try kicking with a float and practice breathing. I did lots of lengths of this to re-gain my confidence of breathing out in the water.

JimmyPestoJunior · 18/08/2017 09:25

Thanks both! When I say I swam 30 lengths that was with several stops at the side of the pool to get my breath back.
I will definitely try using a float do I can concentrate on getting the rhythm of breathing correctly. I inhaled water twice last time when I obviously got the timings wrong.

rightsofwomen · 18/08/2017 22:48

A swimming thread wedding pesto! How exciting. Welcome.

Diving in to report 2 swims of 1K this week. Lane to myself both times. Ha!

And in other news, DS1 got his A levels and is off to Southampton next month.

I changed my name from Ski Smile

That's brill rights hope he enjoys Southampton.

Did a 1k swim this afternoon was lovely and quiet.

BestIsWest · 19/08/2017 21:41

Congrats to your DS Rights. Mine is off to Cardiff.

And a wedding! Welcome Pesto.

My chlorine allergy is getting worse. Goggles and noseclip don't seem to be enough anymore.
I felt terrible all day Tuesday. Apart from the continual sneezing and sore throat, I felt a bit flu like. I was fine on Wednesday. I haven't been
back this week but want to go Monday.
It is getting me down tbh. Mondays swim was so lovely.

rightsofwomen · 21/08/2017 09:12

Congrats to young Best as well.
I'm sorry about the chlorine allergy. I have no idea what could be done about that.

Are there any other boy leg swimsuits around other than the cheapy Sports Direct one? I've got through 3 of those now.

I shall go to Ladies Night tonight.

I've got one of the cheapies too and it's starting to wear out. I'm looking at this Speedo one as my next.

TheMShip · 21/08/2017 10:08

Hahah oops that's the kids one ... this is the women's one and they've got a 10% off if you sign up to their mailing list.

TriGirl007 · 21/08/2017 14:53

That's nice looking suit mship I just wish that shape would suit me as it's much easier not having to keep maintaining bikini line. I've got a similar one but it just looks awful with my "mummy Tum c-sec overhang" I keep it for messing about on hols with kids now.

TheMShip · 21/08/2017 16:32

Yeah I'm not keen on the mum-tum thing either (if you've seen me on the 5:2 thread you know I'm teetering on the obese side of the BMI line), but I love the overall feel of the suit style and the fact I don't have to shave as high. I've had zero ingrown hairs since switching. I need to save up a bit to get the new suit.

I love showing up at the poolside all podgy in my middle aged mum-suit, hopping in the fast lane, and ploughing through my distance with a decent front crawl and flip turns. I like defying the expectation that my appearance creates. I'm enough of a regular now though that I don't get to surprise many people anymore! Maybe I should try out open water swimming...

rightsofwomen · 21/08/2017 16:48

...and there's me, looking fit (from the running), plopping myself in and being really quite ineffective!

All The Gear No Idea

Go us!

Hissy · 21/08/2017 17:03

I'm currently spending my days waddling my ample arse into the Ionian Sea. Boyf and I pick landmarks and swim between them.

I love the looks I get tbh... I get totally misjudged 😂

I know I've got the best looking stroke by miles, even compared to those who have the kit etc.

I may look podgy, middle aged, but my ds says I've got a very pretty (M&S Hawaiian design halter neck) suit and he can spot me from miles off because I look so lovely in my suit and with my stroke

Not often I crow... but I've worked bloody hard to swim this well...

And I have a hard core masters class to get better for, new coach, even more evil demanding than the last!

TriGirl007 · 21/08/2017 17:56

My youngest DD just unexpectedly passed her stage 3 swimming award tonight Grin bless her she had her 6th birthday party earlier so was knackered from massive over excitement but was a dream in her lesson?!

Yep I don't look remotely fit with my size 16 curves and massive boobs but I swim and run every week and it's the fittest I've been for years Smile

rightsofwomen · 21/08/2017 18:57

Well done mini TriGirl and good for you Mama
