Totally gonna get this

Erm... Where are the eyes gonna end up? I'm too naturally buoyant to suit that suit rights

Just as well they don't have a bulging eyed frog version Grin

I'm not a natural anything so I'd be thrilled to kick anyone's arse tbh :D

rightsofwomen · 01/08/2017 16:21

LOL...turns out it's discontinued anyway. Ya boo.

You are naturally funny and helpful Hissy, nice traits.

Hissy · 01/08/2017 18:00

Aw... thanks rights 😊😍

CorrigansDoorKnob · 02/08/2017 15:08

Thanks for the tips for the hands Hissy. I still can't work out what I'm doing wrong. I think ultimately it's a confidence thing and I just need to keep having a crack at it and one day it will work and become second nature. I've spectacularly wiped out a few squad mates in the past which may be part of the problem Shock

Hissy · 02/08/2017 15:21

See this :

Hissy · 02/08/2017 15:25

This one looks good too!

Hissy · 02/08/2017 15:25
CorrigansDoorKnob · 03/08/2017 07:59

Hissy, those 2 videos are great. They have explained the arm problem really well. Thanks so much. Going to the pool tomorrow determined to nail it! Good job it's cold and raining here so it won't be too busy.

rightsofwomen · 03/08/2017 08:14

Yeah...I watched them too.
Thanks hissy.
I think I would only have confidence to practice in my own private pool!

So I might be entering a Splash and Dash event - swim 750m then run 5k

OP posts:
SingingAvocado · 03/08/2017 10:45

Interesting videos, thanks Hissy. Made me quite frightened to try though!

Hissy · 03/08/2017 14:09

rights I'd do a dash of 750m then a splash of 5k Grin
no i wouldn't, 5k still way off my distance!

The ONLY thing to remember is to BLOW OUT THROUGH YOUR NOSE AS YOU GO ROUND/OVER

Forget to this and you will know why I have said for you to do it....

you could try a forward roll in the pool? that's a good start

SkiBike007 · 03/08/2017 14:34

On hols at mo but lovely DH took the kids to soft play hell for an hour yesterday so I could get a lovely quiet 40mins lane swim session in. Was fab all lanes with only 1-2people in each lane now he's about to drop me 3miles from the campsite so I can run back Grin he had his "fix" trail running in the rain 8m yesterday.

SingingAvocado · 03/08/2017 15:15

Where are you Ski?

SkiBike007 · 05/08/2017 21:12

We've been in Cornwall avocado.

Had a fab swim this afternoon back at home pool I was really relaxed & focused on letting the water "hold" my head and did mostly FC for 35minsSmile can't believe I've come so far from struggling to do one length of FC to feeling SO much more confident in the water. It helped I had a lane to myself for most of it as it was nearly closing time

lljkk · 06/08/2017 07:34

ha! I'm not a natural at anything athletic. It's all been a struggle.
My swimming seems better than my running, but that could be due to 20+ yrs of effort vs. just 5 or so for running.

If you picked 100 women off the street & gave them enough fitness training, 85 of them would easily beat me at anything & everything (most of the other 15 would be missing a leg or working spinal cord & could still almost beat me :)). But most folk make no effort, just throw their fitness potential away. It's bewildering.

rightsofwomen · 07/08/2017 08:18

Splash and dash entered. It's tomorrow.
I don't know whether to wear my wet suit or just the trisuit.

Pros: wetsuit gives me buoyancy
Cons: transition will be very long ie I have never done anything like this before, the wet suit is too short so the ankles are around my calves.

Water is 19C.

When I did my first open water race my legs were really wobbly when I finished and I felt quite dizzy. I'm gonna fall flat on my face, aren't I?!

Oh, had a funny swim on Friday.

Usually if there are only three in a lane we agree to go up and down rather than round and round. I was the third person in, with one already swimming by the rope and the other by the wall, so I slipped in the middle.

After a length though, the chap started going round and round. I asked whether he wanted to go up and down and he said not with three as he didn't want to take me out when he did butterfly. Yikes.

He was swimming one length really splashy and fast and strong and then resting for ages I myself look like a mermaid of course

OP posts:
Igottastartthinkingbee · 07/08/2017 08:27

Good luck tomorrow rights are you allowed to not wear a wetsuit? Think most say it's compulsory under 24c? Either way hope you enjoy it you'll be doing a triathlon next WinkGrin

rightsofwomen · 07/08/2017 08:42

This lake says wetsuit compulsory up to 16C.

OP posts:
Igottastartthinkingbee · 07/08/2017 08:49

Wow hardcore lake!! Well I'd go for no wetsuit I think, but it takes me a longtime to get out of it.

CMOTDibbler · 07/08/2017 09:25

At 19, I'd be happy in my trisuit, but I've been swimming in no wetsuit, or just my thin neoprene top a lot.

Last Sunday swim at our lake for the year yesterday due to events on there Sad its never as busy as the Tuesday night session which is a bit frantic. I'm really pleased that this year I have learnt to deal with people swimming into me, having my goggles kicked off, swimming with people tight around me - all of which I was really nervous about.

And I'm going ocean swimming in September! In San Diego at the invitation of one of my customers who I met in Denver last week, and now theres a plan that a group of us (some of my colleagues who OWS, and some customers from other places) will be visiting SD tri club while at a conference. Apparently there are rays and dolphins sometimes. How excited am I!

Hissy · 07/08/2017 09:49

Reporting in. Masters classed are off for August, so it's us under our own power. Garmin Swim watch said I did about 6k last week, so we're keeping up :)

I'm focussing on getting my distance back to be honest, I'll need it for any OWS i need to do next year.

So I am back on the 0-1650 (ruthkazez.com/SwimWorkouts/ZeroTo1mile.html) My sets are basically Week 1 as a warm up, week 2 as the main set, so I'm getting 1600m done. Then practice some breaststroke, and kicking. although I had to stop the breaststroke after 100m or so, and went back to a yummy front crawl, totally in the zone. Heavenly!

think I will try Week 1 as the warm up and then week 3 as the main set - which will kill me. Of this I have no doubt Grin

rights your splashy man had me laughing :D Sounds like you could have been in any pool I've ever been in, there is always one :D

We had to contend with an impromptu swimming training session last week, it was a right pain, I had a woman alternating lengths FC and breaststroke, but to be fair to her, she did always let me past at the wall, there was someone else in there, stood around a LOT then did a couple of reasonable FC lengths.

At one point there were the three of us, her with her breaststroke, him with his slow FC, me with mine and then some bloke got in, zoomed up behind me, tumble turned on the wall and then zoomed down the lane. It was a medium lane, the 2 fasts weren't both overly busy There is ALWAYS one..

I moved into a fast lane where the boyf was and we carried on in peace.

We have now moved over to our Swimming Club pool, as the evenings are usually given over to clubs, nobody knows the sessions are even happening, so the lanes are empty and it's perfection! the pool itself only opened in spring, so everything is brand new and lovely, the water is clean and clear.
