I've just realised I have another much closer link to him but it'll give away too much info about me and it doesn't relate to swimming one bit! I'll come back when I have something more interesting to say!

TheMShip · 27/07/2017 09:52

Have had a nice week of swimming here, been every day so far. Been trying to keep in mind the stretching out that PP was talking about, and it's really helping. Dropped my stroke count by 2 / length and my 100m pace down by a couple of seconds too.

bruffin · 27/07/2017 11:21

I havent hardly swam. I was away , came back did 2 aqua classes with a short swim after and gave myself whiplash. Spent the weekend in agony, but now 95 % better with a just a twinge, so may try tomorrow

Hissy · 27/07/2017 17:28

Whiplash?

Christ! How did you manage that?

I'm sitting here potentially in awe of what have to be AMAZING tumble turns... 😊

bruffin · 27/07/2017 17:35

Think it was aqua, its quite an active class with about 15 minutes in the deepend. Ached a bit after then steadily got worse 2 days later.

I havwnt watched the swimming . I will have to watch and see if our teacher will let us have a go next term, we havent done it for a couple of years. Im always a bit hit and miss so never do them.

SkiBike007 · 27/07/2017 19:21

It's good isn't it hissy we were watching the positions they hold after diving and into the dolphin kick as my DD is learning it at the moment. They keep their arms locked the whole time it looks like. She spent ages watching the tumble turns at Rio last year on the TV then she taught herselfSmile

Hissy · 27/07/2017 23:30

We've just started doing tumbles

You swim up to the end, with about 1 stroke distance you bring your arms down to your sides, turn hands around/away from your body, bring arms up as you flip round

BREATHE OUT THE NOSE!!!!

Then turn out of the turn and swim on...

Don't get stuck in an upside down headstand like me... it's unseemly Grin

TheMShip · 28/07/2017 08:15

Hissy When you get good at tumble turns, they'll knock about 5 seconds off your 100m pace, so keep at it! I'm sure you'll nail it soon.

lljkk · 28/07/2017 10:21

Maybe tumbles is a challenge I should aim for. I really can't do diving, though.

Okay, my lovely vipers fellow sea-snakes, you may enjoy this & I need to share. I am stupidly amused by it. May be a first in my 25 yrs of lane swimming.

Setting: I was front-crawling in medium speed lane, doing approx. 40 second lengths with 4 breaststrokers (types who never put face in water). The fastest breast-stroker was probably doing 45' lengths. The slowest person in lane moaned at me (only them)... do you want to guess what the complaint was about?

*No pool rules were broken, nobody got kicked or scratched or in each other's way.

TheMShip · 28/07/2017 11:07

Ummm, they said you were swimming too fast? Grin

Hissy · 28/07/2017 11:12

TheMship Oh yes, on Monday I swam up - there was a bloke in the other lane mildly attempting to compete, but trying harder not to look like he was, so I swam up performed a fabulous flip, then returned. Attempted a second and got stuck on my head. Blush

Hissy · 28/07/2017 11:13

lljkk that you splashed them? got their hair wet???

Did I win?

Igottastartthinkingbee · 28/07/2017 11:48

You were making too many waves?

rightsofwomen · 28/07/2017 12:01

You were smudging their mascara?

I be back from my hols [sighs wistfully]
I've swum at the pool once since my return (1k) and confirm that the pool is less choppy and fishy than the Med.
I LEFT MY GOGGLES IN SPAIN.
Had to borrow DS1's which are all bright green and mirrored so I felt a bit of a twat.
Amazon are bringing me new ones today.

Anyway, I think the sea swimming made me stronger.

Worn another swim suit out (cheapy boy leg Sports Direct one). The other one I have sits higher on the leg than my bikinis so a bit of my arse that didn't get the sun was on show. It's a trial I tell you.

proswimwear have a Diana deal on £2 suits if you buy something else too... I have just bought another suit, a hat, because my hair is being WRECKED by chlorine and 2 more goggles (one for me and other for DS)

I'm not even sure I need another pair... but WTH, I'm addicted to goggles, need to chuck old ones out. My newest ones do fog up a bit because I have touched them to de fog them in lakes/rivers...

Sea swimming will def make you stronger, deep/big/expansive water makes it harder to swim.

I'm off to Greece in just over a couple of weeks.... YAY!!

We had a good session last night after a last minute email cancelling our masters session :(

Boyf and I went off to another pool for a public session. it was quiet, we trained in the slow lane and were left to it. Can't flaming breathe now, sodding nose is totally blocked. that pool has a LOT of kids using it, the chlorine really is strong there.

lljkk · 28/07/2017 15:41

I got complained at for...
"Thumping" the Water. "We're only the medium lane!" she said. "People who thump go in the fast lane!"

I concluded that "thumping" meant Splashing. Yes, that's right. She was complaining about being splashed... while in the swimming pool.

I feel traumatised on RoW's behalf about leaving goggles behind. Horror of a thought, after you finally find a pair that seem fit for purpose. I'm soon away on hols, too. The leisure pool at holiday town seems good. X all our fingers for no more lost goggles on holiday.

SkiBike007 · 28/07/2017 18:56

We have just been watching the men's 4x200m we were shouting at the TV Grin

I've just been checking out the timetable of the nearest pool to our holiday too there is a very small pool onsite but it would be one stroke & hit the endSmile but it will be brill for my youngest DD to practice her "frog star pencil" Grin I love that description! Right must finish packing!! & stop watching sport on tv ...

SingingAvocado · 28/07/2017 20:37

What is 'frog star pencil' Ski?

The pool where we are going on hols is quite small too. I got DH to pace it when we were there last year and we think it was 17m at the most. And often quite crowded. I'll have to get there early to use it. I was thinking of taking my kitchen timer (small egg-shaped one) to time 40mins! Am I mad? I thought I might try to learn to tumble turn too. I can keep up quite well with most of the fast lane people (a couple of super fast people aside) but lose time on a slow turn. I do backstroke on the way back too so not sure how that would work.

SkiBike007 · 28/07/2017 20:48

Sit on the floor and make your legs into frog leg bends, then out like a star then snap back to pencil straight 😁It's how they are teaching my 5yr old breaststroke

FatGirlWithChocolate · 29/07/2017 11:23

We will be sea swimming, snorkelling and kayaking in Croatia soon ..can't wait! Beautiful water. Tried to do breaststroke turns yesterday (not tumble turns). Made a right tit of myself. Happy days though! Love love LOVE this swimming lark.

Hissy · 29/07/2017 13:15

Lljkk as much as I looove declaring myself a winner, I think the thumping refers to your stroke!

It's the hand entry she's referring to, the thumping.

She thinks the lane has strokes as a definition, not speed!

bruffin · 29/07/2017 13:43

Adam Peaty 50m

look at lane 2, he is really pulling his head to the side, lane 1 a little bit, wonder if he was straighter he would be faster.

bruffin · 29/07/2017 13:44

that is cordes from USA

bruffin · 29/07/2017 13:49

Alright ignore me I think it is to do with the angle of the camera from overhead, just watched another race and its the same
