Swim start with a zillion others in the morning!!!! Hopefully I'll be back to let you know how it goes! Nervous now which I know is NOT gonna help!

SkiBike007 · 10/06/2017 10:34

Love the image article hissy and the inspiring swim in lake. I Iove the way I get in the pool most times not being able to breathe properly but after 20-30L my life aniexty ebbs away and slowly I relax into the swim and the breathing steadies, not always but those are the best swims Smile

Igottastartthinkingbee · 10/06/2017 20:38

I did it!! 400m in a lake in the rain with 50 odd others. Unfortunately despite all my front crawl training I bottled it and did the vast majority of it breaststroke. Bike was great, run was hard but ok. Enjoyed it but definitely need to work on the open water swimming for next time! Also got to feel like a pro triathlete very briefly! as our swim start was on the same pontoon that the elite athletes will be using tomorrow for the World Series triathlon!

SkiBike007 · 10/06/2017 20:57

Well done bee sounds like a great experience Star

Igottastartthinkingbee · 11/06/2017 20:34

Did anyone watch the tri on the Beeb earlier? Their swim technique looks odd! Very fast mind but they don't seem to do the high elbow thing. And all the sighting looks totally random. I'm off to look it up.

Monday night 1k swim done getting bit more confident on my frontcrawl now. I had interesting comical time swimming with a guy in big yellow flappy shorts in the lane next to me. He had long hair was doing the head out of water dry head style manic breast stroke as he decided to "race me" doing two strokes to my one I calmly turned at the end whilst he puffed n puffed after one lenght and carried on doing my thing (lapping him about every 4L) it kept me amused Grin for a few lengths till he tried again Smile so I put a spurt onGrin. Even my DD training in the club lanes clocked it and said it made her giggle. I get far too involved in the swimming psychology sometimes Grin the guy sharing the lane with me was fab though and very polite.

rightsofwomen · 13/06/2017 08:59

What a twit Ski

Sometimes I try and keep up with people, but am not racing them as such - just seeing how I compare.

Let's hear it for the Late Monday Night Swim!

lljjk like your list! I was in the fast lane again today and feeling the pressure. I was keeping up with a super fast swimmer pretty well (swimming in her bubbles!) over one length but then realised that she has the edge on me in her turns which are so quick (not sure if she was doing a tumble turn or not).

Great triathlon, Ski. I give a lift to the pool to my friend's husband who has just started swimming again. He says the Tri mags he gets say kicking when swimming is a waste of time as you are going to need your legs for the cycle and run. So he is really having to work on making his legs work for him.

Hissy · 13/06/2017 11:54

My Monday night was in the lake.

Hideous panic attack. really fed up tbh.

Got round the 400m, first 100 was into the wind, into the sun. really hard work. My suit was rubbing on sunburn too. so I took the suit off and swam without. Managed another 2 x 200m

Am off again on Weds and then have a coached session on the thames on saturday...

SingingAvocado · 13/06/2017 11:59

Star Hissy Star you are braver than me getting in a lake! Celebrate that! Was is 800m you did? That is fab xx

CountryCaterpillar · 13/06/2017 14:35

I'm impressed at those swimming outdoors! Well done.

I'm going tonight before aqua. It's us7ally a general swim so hard to really swim lots of lengths if it's busy. I'll see what I can do !

Hissy · 13/06/2017 16:00

It was 800m, but most strokes were torture, the against the wind Ines anyway

Biggest challenge of my swimming journey. I know I'm not giving myself credit for this. It's all too terrifying tbh.

Lovely boyf was too chipper and so I sent him on ahead without me, he did 2k, or so he says. I think he did 1.6k, but he had to do better than I do in masters sessions... apparently

I needed the head space to face the demons alone. It kind of worked.

Back again tomorrow, it should be warmer and easier. Will do 400m then de suit and see what I can do.

SloeGinRocks · 13/06/2017 16:11

Can I join you ladies?
Am trying to swim 1k a few times a week for fitness.
Also trying to improve my strokes.
Can I ask where you learned to do turns? Are they easy to master from online sites?
Thanks Smile

rightsofwomen · 13/06/2017 16:37

Hello gin
Everyone welcome here.

We sound similar. I do 1K twice a week and am trying to improve steadily.

Can't help you with the turns I'm afraid.

SkiBike007 · 13/06/2017 16:56

sloegin my DD is mastering tumble turns in her club swims at the moment. She started by watching you tube videos, then practiced doing a simple sommesault in the water. Then start with front crawl, as backstroke is harder with the timing of the turn start. They don't tumble for breast stroke or butterfly not sure if that will always be the case? Breaststroke turn is more of a two handed touch and one handed side push n glide not a turn. Does your pool do SwimFit sessions with a coach on pool side they would be able to advise.

CountryCaterpillar · 13/06/2017 21:04

I did 850m before aquafit. So wanted to do 1k but got into the water 34 mins before it started and if looks like I'm about 1min a length!!! So close...

SloeGinRocks · 13/06/2017 22:48

Ok thanks will check out the swimfit sessions & tumble turns online too 👍🏼

SingingAvocado · 15/06/2017 11:12

Welcome SloeGin.

NotCitrus · 15/06/2017 13:15

Finally managed another swim! Had half-term off as can't take kids with, then poorly, though managed to get in the pool at the weekend with dd.

1k, pushed quite hard at the start (only one lane available and 3 fit blokes in it... they were very nice and well-behaved though) then had to take it more gently. New nose clip is remarkably effective but started to hurt near the end.

Have just found out that my membership lets me go free after 1pm on weekends, but not weekday evenings, so may try a weekend swim.

Rahul88 · 15/06/2017 18:23

Can I join? Recently got back into swimming, trying to get quicker at 1000m (around 31 minutes currently according to Apple Watch). Was doing 1 length front crawl 1 length front crawl but trying to do more crawl.

SkiBike007 · 15/06/2017 18:27

Got in swift half hr lunch break swim in the outdoor pool, was nice but bit windy so I was struggling abit with in breathe in the frontcrawl with waves splashing in. Only 4in the lane all blokes & me Grin but all civilised similar pace.

SingingAvocado · 15/06/2017 20:12

You are very welcome to join us Rahul. I alternated lengths of front crawl and backstroke.

Your outdoor lunchtime swim sounds lovely Ski. I went swimming this morning as usual at the leisure centre. Done until Monday now.

rightsofwomen · 15/06/2017 22:17

[throws endorphins around with gay abandon].
