10,000 steps every day - anyone with me?

Have decided -as part of my 'new year, new me' mission- that I'm going to ensure I do at least 10,000 steps every day without fail.

I got a fitbit a few months ago and love it. Up to now I've mainly been monitoring it in a mildly interested way though, rather than really making an effort to increase what I normally do Blush

Some days I do the 10,000 steps no problem, but not every day, so am determined to do extra to make sure I do. I'm also aiming to run 3x a week and improve my diet.

Anyone with me on the steps?

Do you ever do the challenges ? I do - it's a great motivator !
I aim for 10k a day too ... Some days I'm just too busy with work and end up making up my steps on the treadmill at the end of the day ! But I do feel better for it !
Takes me 17mins to do 2000 steps on the treadmill, if I'm walking rather than running .

10,000 steps every day - anyone with me?

Only 5k for me today but I did have a lovely snooze on the sofa. Still Christmas! Hoping to start once the schools go back on Tuesday - i walk the school run most days, which I think is about 2k

Justabig - mine glitched on NYE too, was at about 7000 at 8.30pm. I was syncing it to my phone and it suddenly said "battery flat" (on the phone, it wasn't) and reset to 0 steps.

Anyway, not achieved 10k yet this year, we are holed up in a country cottage till tomorrow and the rain just keeps coming down. Got off to a good start to the year yesterday with 7k by 11am including 54 active minutes, but it has been raining ever since. Will start properly on Monday when we're home.

JustABigBearAlan · 02/01/2016 23:08

Well I managed my 10,000 steps today, even though it was a fairly sedentary day. I had to go for a march round the block this evening to reach my target, but it was surprisingly enjoyable. It had finally stopped raining and lots of twinkly Christmas lights everywhere.

Nice to see so many of us doing this.

OnePlan I've never done the challenges but they sound quite fun. I don't really know anyone else in rl with a fitbit, and presumably you need people to compete against to do them?

Are you part of the Mumsnet Fitbit group, JustABig?

Quite a few of us like doing challenges there.

JustABigBearAlan · 03/01/2016 19:57

Raisin no I'm not. How do I join?

So far I'm hitting or exceeding my 1 hr active time target, but not the 10k steps. Maybe I'll aim for averaging it out over the week - last week's average was 6463 so some way to go there!

I have managed a 5 day streak on www.headspace.com though so pleased with that, though it's sort of off-topic for this thread!

GloGirl · 05/01/2016 22:13

My fitbit is on order, I really don't know what I want from it but I thought I would jump into this thread for a bit of company Brew

Don't think I will manage 10k steps, ever! But I want to start walking the dog again, would be nice to track progress and easily set targets.

Wolfiefan · 05/01/2016 22:15

I took kids to school, sorted animals and tried to start couch25k. Did 10,000 by noon! Quite chuffed!

WhoKn0wsWhereTheMistletoes · 05/01/2016 22:20

Finally managed 10k today! And 42 active minutes. Two school runs, walked to DD's dance class and back and popped out just now to the post box.

I am in the MN group, but we haven't got a spare USB port on the computer to plug the dongle into at the moment and you don't seem to be able to see groups on the app.

GloGirl · 05/01/2016 22:45

Well done both of you! Flowers

AtSea1979 · 05/01/2016 22:49

I got to 7,500 today so jogged on the spot in the kitchen while supper was cooking to make it up to 10k. It definitely gets me moving more. If anyone wants to add me to do a challenge then PM me but I only just do 10k a day and today I was struggling with motivation.

Perfectlypurple · 06/01/2016 09:53

I'm doing the workweek hustle challenge on Fitbit with a friend. It's who can get the most steps in Monday to Friday. I have done over 20,000 steps a day both days so far and am a little bit ahead of her at the moment. I just keep going for walks to get my step count up. Doing the challenge certainly pushes you to get moving more.

bigbadbarry · 06/01/2016 13:18

10,000 steps by 1030 this morning, I am very proud. (Have now taken to my sofa to recover). First run of the year!

madwomanbackintheattic · 06/01/2016 17:05

Ha. I'm doing workweek hustle too. Currently languishing in thired place out of 4... But one is in a different time zone so I get an extra 7 hours to catch up later when she is in bed ;-)

OnePlanOnHouzz · 06/01/2016 19:58

Bummed out as soooo busy with work ! Only just stopped for today ( started at 7:30am ) !! Too knackered to crawl into the gym yet alone do anything !! Soz !! Sad

cleanmachine · 06/01/2016 20:30

Can I join? Can someone recommend a good fitbit? Will the cheap version do our does it have to be the expensive one?

Also if I wear it on my stock will it count my time on the exercise bike? My ny resolution was to restart my walking but I've had a 4 day migraine which is just abating abd I'm keen to stay walking.

bigbadbarry · 06/01/2016 21:05

All that early exercise meant I had to tidy up the remaining chocolate orange and it now says I have eaten more calories than I used today :( am considering running up and down stairs a few times.

WhoKn0wsWhereTheMistletoes · 06/01/2016 21:31

Clean - I have a Fitbit One (several years old, the sort you clip onto your clothing). If I put it on my waistband it counts pedal strokes when cycling. I usually wear it on my bra though.

11000 for me today, had to do an unexpected round trip to the garage to drop off the car and bring it back and have just been to tap dancing class, but that doesn't actually register many steps, I don't think the movements are right for it.

slightlyglitterbrained · 06/01/2016 21:37

cleanmachine - if you just want to count steps, it's worth checking phone/iPod if you have one to see if they have an app before buying something else. DP has an old iPod that he uses to track steps, I use my phone.

WhoKn0wsWhereTheMistletoes · 06/01/2016 21:44

Yes, my Iphone tracks steps pretty accurately, but I don't carry it everywhere with me, and it doesn't work so well in a bag as when in a pocket. Whereas the Fitbit is just there all the time.

JustABigBearAlan · 06/01/2016 23:44

clean I have a Fitbit flex and really like it. It's one of the cheaper ones, but does the job.
Who knows it's weird/frustratig that not all forms of exercise seem to register. You'd think tap dancing would involve loads of steps! I did over an hour of chasing my 2 year old round soft play the other day. It barely registered anything - about 600 steps, and I think most of those were walking to and from the car! Yet if I ride my horse, I get loads of steps as it seems to pick up hers easy way to cheat

I'm doing OK so far as I've made sure I'm doing my 10k steps every day. I often have to go for a late evening walk to get there, but at least it's making me do it.

I'm really impressed by big's 10k by 10.30am and purple's 20k.

I quite like walking, but I just don't seem to have enough hours in the day to fit everything in!

cleanmachine · 07/01/2016 17:55

Yes I've decided to use my ipod. Had forgotten about that. I hope it's accurate for counting steps.

Perfectlypurple · 07/01/2016 22:07

Thanks just. Have just hit 25,000 today. My feet are sore now! 😄

bigbadbarry · 08/01/2016 10:13

Thanks just - am finding 10k easy to achieve on school-run days but less so when I drive them in.
